The sounds of their footsteps echoed quietly through the halls, which seemed to be growing more spacious as they moved. It was probably an inch at a time, the walls expanding every so often when he turned a corner into a new path. It seemed to be more for the Unown's sake than his own, as more tried to simply rush by him and his team, a good few managing to slip past without issue while the rest were hit with the Darkrai's attacks.

As they made their way through the winding corridors, the group finally found their first duplicate. Or at least, an Unown of the same variety as what they already had. Obviously it wasn't an actual copy of the previous ones, but he couldn't help but think of it like that, a sort of generalization to keep things simple.

While Nevermoor and Yin walked a short ways ahead, Nova stayed close to her trainer, standing beside him as they explored the ruins. While the Darkrai was quick to shoot down any who rushed towards them, some would slip through the cracks, coming up behind them while they looked the other way. Whenever that happened though, Nova didn't give them a much better chance, firing a Moonblast back at them, followed almost immediately by the disguised Zorua turning about and chucking a pokeball at the Unown with as much flair as possible.

As they passed from hall to hall, Zero could see more and more Unown slipping off into further spaces and corridors. It didn't seem like most had any idea where they were going, or even that they were too concerned with it. Just that they were going somewhere with the hoard. He couldn't help but wonder if there was some force compelling them to go to any one place, or if it was just how the species operated, like a well-oiled machine.

✿ ❀ Isis smiled and returned Nocturne to her pokeball when they landed, watching as Leon let out Kai. The water type didn't seem too keen on training though, so Isis moved to give him a hug so that he wouldn't feel too grumpy. "There's my favorite gator~" She cooed after Leon finished petting him consolingly. She glanced over at Leon as he suggested that he hadn't been to the ruins ever since he was little. "Really? Did you ever see any unown back then?" She asked curiously. Isis had never seen unown before herself, just heard lots of rumors and legends. She'd never really been one for spooky caves and ruins anyways. She preferred wide open spaces, like hiking in the mountains, still, she had to admit the place had a magical feeling to it. It didn't even seem all that run down, for ruins.
Isis supposed she should probably let out her own pokemon for training as well. Even if she didn't really feel like training, she still needed pokemon to battle the unown so that she could capture them and test the wish theory. "Alright Hylia, I'm depending on you!" Tossing the pokeball into the air, her aegislash was released, looking over Isis stoically. "Ready to help me catch some unown?" Isis asked, beaming brightly, and the sword tilted slightly forward in what seemed like a sort of nod, which Isis accepted, turning back to Leon. "Alright! Well, lead on! Kai stopped being as grumpy as Isis gave him a hug, giving an appreciative growl as she proclaimed him her favorite gator. Leon was glad to have his starter settled down; he knew he hated having to be put back in his ball, but ever since his final evolution, he was much too large to have his flying types carry him all the time. "No, not really. I did see markings on the walls that looked like them, though." he replied, left hand scratching at the back of his neck. As he got Inari ready for some training, Isis had made her choice on who to train here.
"Watch your step. The floors can be a bit uneven." Leon told Isis as he lead the way into the ruins. As he moved ahead, a paper slipped out of his bag, drifting down to the floor, unnoticed. Well, mostly unnoticed. Inari took interest in the piece of paper immediately, pawing at it and hopping around it. As she chased it across the floor, Kai stopped the nonsense, examining the paper before picking it up in a clawed hand. Something seemed... familiar about it. He brought it to Isis, presenting the paper to her. With her source of entertainment taken away, Inari bolted up ahead, dipping between Leon's leg to sniff around curiously.
Inside the envelope, there was a letter that had seemed to meant to be delivered quite a while ago. It was a very cheesy love letter to Isis, terrible poems and all. Which was likely the reason it had never been delivered. However, right now, Leon was totally unaware that it was now being delivered.

Eventually, the halls ended up looping back in on themselves, the distorted maze shrinking and expanding in a simple pattern. He couldn't begin to guess the purpose to it, if there was one. Then again, it's possible that was just an effect of the distortions Scathach talked about, with local space being warped and altered more with the denser the collection of Unown were.

✿ ❀ Isis giggled as Kai perked up after her hug, leaning back and cupping his jaw in her hands. "No grumpy gators on my watch~" She insisted before inquiring to Leon for more on his experiences with the ruins. "Oh? Are those markings further inside?" She asked. They had only come through the initial entrance and paused to choose their pokemon, so they had yet to really go down into the ruins just yet where everything was still fairly preserved. She followed Leon further in, giving and audible nod as Leon cautioned her to watch her step. She knew she could be a bit of a klutz at times but she harshly told herself that now could not be one of those times. She didn't want to damage anything in here.
However, she did notice when a letter slipped out of Leon's bag, knocked loose from when he had been choosing his team it seemed. Inari got to it first however, chasing the letter down as their movement blew the paper along until Kai managed to stop it and brought it to her. "Heh, what are you doing silly boy? Isn't this Leon's?" She asked, though they had lagged behind the lifeguard a bit to try and catch the letter. It was addressed to her though, and curious, Isis opened it to read. It was dated quite a while ago, before they'd even started dating, and filled with romantic poems, many crossed out sections and revisions. It was cute. Had he been trying to find a way to confess? Isis gave a stifled giggle. Leon really was such a dork. She loved it, and stuck the letter away in her bag.
Glancing up however, Isis realized just how far behind Leon she'd fallen. "Leon...?" She called, taking a few quick steps forward into a jog in hopes of catching up, but she ended up coming upon a fork in the road, and calling out to Leon didn't appear to be getting any reply. For a moment, Isis feared that she'd lost him somehow, and as she moved faster, she suddenly ended up smacking right into someone and toppling over. "Waugh!!" She wailed, blinking and straightening as she tried to get a better look at who she'd bulldozed over. "Zero!" She recognized the white haired boy immediately. Somehow the corridors had shifted and folded in space, putting Isis right between Yin and Zero, but her happy reunion didn't last, seeing how oddly dark and shadowy Zero appeared to be. "Um..... You are Zero.... Right...?" She began to doubt her eyes, backing away slowly. Why would Zero be here of all places anyways? She then bumped into Yin, who in her human illusion form, she didn't recognize at all, and looked extra ominous with the way the shadows played with her form. "A-ah.... Sorry... M-maybe I mistook you for someone else... I-I'll just be...." She said quietly, her voice barely above a whisper as she scooted away from them both, looking more than a little terrified. ✿ ❀

The young man hardly paid any mind to where he was going anymore, with Yin and Nevermoor dealing with any of the psychic-types that came their way. The largely angular hallways didn't leave much for him to focus on in terms of their path, so he could simply follow those two as they went. The rest of the time he spent simply observing, watching the flickers of light dance through the halls, and allowing himself to be lost in his own musings. Nova's ears perked up as they walked, sensing someone familiar coming close. Her face turned into a grin as she went to inform her trainer, only to be caught off-guard when the wall between them suddenly disappeared. Zero didn't notice the new entryway open up beside him, failing to notice the blonde coming rushing down the path. "Zero, watch-" Was all she got out before Isis rammed into the silver-haired trainer.
Startled, Zero let out an incoherent spurt of profanity, as a flash of gold suddenly rammed into him from the side and sending him into the nearest wall, the young man recoiling in pain as he struck his head on the stone. He stopped when the source spoke to him though, a familiar voice calling his name so suddenly. He looked up at her, blinking a few times. Sure enough, it was Isis who came running and screaming into him. "I-Isis?"
He tried to say more, but he winced as his hands shot back to his head, where he'd hit the bricks so suddenly. He wanted to say more, ask her so much, but at the moment, the sharp pain on his head was too distracting. As he began to rise up though, Isis seemed confused, curious if she happened to mix him up with someone else. He just gave her a strange look, before realizing just how deep a shadow had been cast on all of them while Nevermoor hid in the darkness of the ruins. He opened his mouth to clear up the confusion, but Yin had the swifter tongue.
"My my, you're off with your date for so long and the first thing you do is get on top of another man? Scandelous~" the fox teased, having taken notice of their new arrival. There was a sly smile spread across her face, almost coy as she gazed at the blonde with bright, azure eyes. The shadows around her seemed to distort, though it was simply a mixture of Nevermoor's presence, and the Unown's bending of reality, it didn't make it seem any less ominous. "And here I thought you weren't the type to tempt a poor guy's heart."
"Quiet you," Zero shot back at her, quieting the Zorua for a moment. "Sorry, Isis... Yeah, it's me, Zero." He tapped his foot against the floor behind him, prompting the shadows to begin receding to something more natural, and for the pale Darkrai to rise up from the floor beneath him. The light quickly restored itself to its natural state, showing the young man's face as clear as day. Even if he had covered part of it with his scarf, his eyes only seeming more sad than they were menacing like they were a moment ago. "What're you doing here, anyway? You're not the type to go exploring dark and mysterious places just for the sake of being in town."

"Mhm. There were a lot of them on the walls." Leon replied to Isis. He was doing pretty well coming down in this cave-like ruins. It was most likely because he was here with Isis that he wasn't in an outright panic. He had been so busy focusing on being here with Isis instead of his fear of caves that he hadn't noticed that a letter had slipped out from his bag, or that Isis had somehow disappeared from behind him.
Kai's head perked up immediately as he heard Isis call out for Leon, turning his head to look behind him, only to glance ahead to his trainer. However, Leon wasn't there. The gator felt bewildered, sniffing around before running off towards the sound of Isis. Luckily, he found Isis with two other ... people? They looked kinda ominous, and one smelled like a pokemon. The feraligatr grumbled and meandered his way between Isis and the others in a rather protective manner, his head held low as crimson eyes investigated the two. It took a while to realize that it wasn't an enemy - the weird shadowy effect dropped as another white pokemon appeared behind Zero. The gator was still cautious - he didn't know what kind of pokemon that was, but he turned away to nuzzle Isis, plopping to sit on his rump beside her. He gave a whimper, finding that Leon wasn't there, like he had hoped.
Meanwhile, Leon was busy watching as Inari started to chase shadows around, pouncing at walls and gekkering about excitedly. It was rather cute, until an unown appeared, quickly getting chomped in her jaws. It was immediately knocked out, clattering to the floor with a dizzy eye. "Kekekek!" Inari chittered, prancing around the unown that was shaped like a P. Leon threw a pokeball, capturing the Unown and setting the ball inside his bag. "Isis, did you see-... Isis?" Leon turned to face Isis, but found that she wasn't there. Nor was Kai. Suddenly, any confidence he had had about being in the ruins melted away. He cursed under his breath, growing frantic as he went back the way he came, not finding Isis or Kai. Inari at least was with him, but that didn't stop Leon from feeling like the walls were slowly closing in on him. The arusune was having fun, bounding around alongside her trainer as he ran around, calling out for Isis and Kai.
After sniffing about, Inari gave a bark to get her trainer's attention before heading down a hall. Leon was quick to follow, and finally, they joined up with Isis. And some others. "Isis! Kai! Th-thank arceus!" Leon exclaimed as he stumbled into the scene. It was pretty clear that he was not having the best time, bent over with his hands on his knees as he tried to 'catch his breath'. Inari gave a proud bark, tails wagging behind her. Her own shadow warped a bit a somewhat creepy face appearing on the floor in her shadow, yet it was still cheerfully friendly. Kai's tail thumped on the floor in response to his trainer returning, and he immediately moved the short distance from Isis to Leon, giving him a comforting nuzzle to his side. Leon did his best to try to recompose himself, straightening out as he rested his left hand on Kai's head. He still hadn't calmed down enough to notice that it was Zero there with some black haired girl and a strangely colored darkrai.

✿ ❀ Isis stared at the strange woman as she talked to her and seemed to know so much. Her voice sounded vaguely familiar, but Isis was paying far more attention to what she was saying rather than trying to figure out where she knew the voice from. It was entirely possible after all, that Zero had just informed a travel partner about her and all the goings on. The first sentence was harmless enough, but as the shadows distorted around her, Yin's next choice of words almost became nightmare-esque. Isis could only stare back, conflicted with horror and guilt, even as Kai put himself protectively between her and the others. It was only when Zero commanded her to be quiet and apologized, insisting it was him as he somehow caused the shadows to recede, that Isis relaxed and felt she could breathe again. "A-ah.... Nevermoor. So that was you... Haha..." Isis breathed a sigh of relief, holding her hand over her heart and smiling wearily at Zero now that the shadows weren't altering his face. His expression was no longer nearly as terrifying, certainly a little melancholy, but at least familiar and warm. Kai was less wary, but still whined and nuzzled her like the dog of a gator he was, and Isis pet him reassuringly. Leon would find them both soon, she was sure.
Se chuckled as he asked what she was doing here. "Haha, what, you don't think I'd be cut out as a secret spelunking enthusiast?" She suggested teasingly. "I was actually about to ask you the same thing, but really, Leon wanted to train some and I guess I needed to as well. Also there's a legend Leon told me about that I wanted to test, it's said if you catch all the different unown, they'll grant you a wish!" She explained. Her cheerful babbling faltered a little at the end however as she was reminded of the real reason she was here. She wanted Ebony back, and if the unown really did grant wishes....
Isis smiled sadly at the ground, shuffling her feet until a familiar voice called her name. "Leon! There you are. I was wondering where-- Leon?" She tilted her head as the lifeguard doubled over to catch his breath. She didn't expect him to be so winded. He must have been really worried... "Sorry... I got a little lost... It was so weird, I could have sworn I was just right behind you and then...." She shook her head. "Well the important thing is, we're all together now!" She insisted, placing her hands on her hips confidently, turning to face Zero again before taking notice of Nova at last, and.... Her hair. Oh Arceus, the poor gardevoir looked so stressed out, even with the hat to help hide it. "Hey Nova~ How are you? Good to see you again." She greeted gently. ✿ ❀

The young, silver-haired trainer shook his head at her joke, quietly laughing under his breath. "No, no you do not. If I told you a ghost has been chasing me this whole time you'd be running for the hills." Zero's expression took on a tinge of disappointment as she revealed that her reason for coming was another opportunity to spend time with Leon. Or at least, that was how he interpreted it. He couldn't exactly fault her for that, and all things considered, he would've gotten a text from her if she actually intended to meet up again, but... It still left a bitter taste in his mouth. But, he did his best to hide that disappointment, quirking a brow as she mentioned the Unown granting wishes. "A wish, huh?"
He turned slightly to the side, facing the path he was just walking down to see Nova moving to intercept a small Unown that was rushing towards them. A single Moonblast took it down, of course, and the young man hummed quietly as he watched Yin spin around to catch it. "...Well, I haven't heard about any wishes, but I am here to collect the Unown. Apparently they cause distoritions when they gather so densly, so Scathach needs me to clear some out to make them disperse." He explained his own reasoning quite flatly, musing to himself about what he would do if there really was a wish at the end of this hunt. He had one, obviously, a particular desire he's had since before his journey began. But a glance at Isis reminded him of another, one which was far more selfish of him...
He didn't dwell on it too much, though, as the familiar voice of the lifeguard suddenly echoed down the halls, catching Zero offguard with its desperation. The raven-haired swimmer rushed towards the group he came in with as soon as he saw them, completely missing Zero's band of misfits. The young man had to turn his head away and cover his mouth before he chuckled at Leon's unexpected terror that had him doubling over as soon as he reached them. Somehow, the sight made him forget the distain he held but a moment ago, and tilted his head towards Leon with a sympathetic grin. "The 'I'm Having A Panic Attack' look doesn't suit you. You alright?"
Meanwhile, neither of their new arrivals seemed to take notice of Nova, until the cosmic Gardevoir had shuffled back to her trainer's side. She hung her head a little in defeat, easily sensing the blonde's reaction to her curled, messy hair. "Fine, fine. Things have certainly been lively lately." She raised her head to look back at Isis, her pumpkin eyes looking a little tired, but simultaneously more refreshed than when she'd left them.
While this was all happening, Yin was just rubbing her hands together, snickering quite loudly. "My my~ We've got the whole love triangle together now. Caught with another suitor, I wonder who's heart you'll break fir-" Before the Zorua could finish her provocations, Zero reached over and struck her with a flick of his fingers, his digits hitting her head with a "little" extra force thanks to the psychic-type beside him, sending the girl spiraling into the wall. The illusion flickered, and she let out a distorted yelp at the strike, before fading out completely when she hit the wall. The small fox emerged for about half a second, before she restored the illusion, and steadied herself. "Fine, I won't tease her so much," she groaned, rubbing her forehead.

Inari sniffed around again before chasing around more shadows. Another unown p showed up, and with a crunch, it was taken down, flung aside like a toy. She gave a happy bark, proud of her accomplishment before she moved around to try to sniff out more of these odd pokemon. The arusune crept up towards the white darkrai, gekkering with curiosity.
It took a bit for Leon to come to his senses after straightening out, Kai grumbling against him in a content tone. He then noticed the gang that he and Isis had come across; Zero, some girl that turned out to actually be a disguised zorua, an oddly colored Darkrai, and Nova. It was really strange to have run into them here. Isis apologized for having gotten lost, and he waved it off, still looking a bit pale. Leon's expression turned to an odd mix of uncomfortable and a scowl as Zero addressed him. "I am fine." Leon stated. Totally convincing. He still felt shaken, and was still trying not to think of the ceiling caving in, or the floor crumbling beneath him, dropping him into an even smaller, darker space. So much for that. Leon was starting to feel a bit queasy, leaning against Kai. The gator didn't complain at all.

✿ ❀ Isis smiled grimly as Zero pointed out her own fear of ghosts being the reason she couldn't be a spelunker. "Welll....... Yeah okay you have me there." Isis chuckled. "You... You were joking about that right? There hasn't been a ghost chasing you..... Right?" She squeaked, looking a little tense again. He seemed interested in the prospect of getting a wish granted, though he was here to help his new rayquaza to clear out the unown clusters so that they wouldn't distort space. "Ah.... Maybe that's how Leon and I got separated so suddenly... I could have sworn I was right behind--" She was cut off as, speak of the devil, Leon showed up, calling out for herself and Kai in relief now that he'd found them. Isis did her best to reassure her poor panicked boyfriend, and appreciated Zero's attempt at sympathy even though Leon didn't appear to take it very well. Kai was happy to have his trainer back at least, and Isis was certainly glad she hadn't lost Leon completely.
When Nova returned to Zero's side, Isis greeted her and felt inclined to ask how she was doing, if only because of the state of her hair. She didn't sound too stressed thankfully, just tired, which Isis supposed was a good sign. "So I've heard." Isis chuckled. She glanced over to Yin however as the disguised zorua snickered in a way that grated Isis' nerves and reminded her of another furball. Her comments on the whole love triangle didn't really help either, but Zero quickly shut her up again with a surprisingly powerful flick to the forehead that Isis had to pin Nova for as the cause. Illusion broken now though, Isis was able to recognize Yin at last. "Oh! I knew she sounded familiar! No wonder...." Isis scratched her head. It really had been a long time, hadn't it? She felt like her head was still up in space, taking some time to remember common sense things.
Meanwhile, Hylia dispatched an unown that looked like a line and Isis blinked, forgetting that she'd even had the aegislash out. She sure could be quiet and undetectable when she wanted to be, that was probably how the unown hadn't noticed her. Still, Isis would take the unown, capturing it with a pokeball. "How many unown have you captured already Zero...?" She asked innocently, even though a wide grin growing on her face. "What if weeee.... Had a little competition? See who caught all their unown first?" Zero certainly had a head start, but that wouldn't make Isis any less competitive. ✿ ❀
