I'll defend my people from harm...

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

After being taken to the clearing in the forest, Vavara felt right at home as she could almost feel the trees and flowers around them. The area had never looked livelier than before, almost feeding into the girl's eagerness to showcase her skills in life magic to Surtr, who had done so with his magic. She had been a bit rusty, though had taken some time to at least practice some of her library of spells during her off time when she was not keeping up to date with what was going on in the kingdom, as well as whatever called for her attention. Had Surtr not given the response she did, the princess would have jumped out of his grasp and onto the forest's floor to begin her little performance for the king.

Instead, she was swiftly taken from his shoulders and then placed onto his lap after he had sat down to answer her question about her parents. Instead of her normal and rather calm look, the face that greeted Surtr was full of uncertainty. Being this close as well as beginning to open up about what was causing her so much strife to him made her feel incredibly powerless and small. He moved some hair from her face and began to explain, poking her nose as he usually had done back when the two had first met. Or was it when she had first gotten stuck like this? It had been long enough for her to forget, but it was a most welcome way of showing that he cared. He began to speak about Karst itself and how her parents went against the vision that so many people had come to know and love about the city. As he spoke, his eyes seemed to reflect her current mood. A wave of guilt was sent over her as she debated on whether or not she should have opened this part of her life to him. I shouldn't have said anything. We could have left to go return to the castle for dinner by now and nobody would have been upset. His finals words would echo in her mind as she could only look at Surtr with a pained expression. They continued to repeat in her mind, over and over, until she closed her eyes and hugged Surtr again. An odd occurrence in this personality, but it was clear that she needed some type of comfort. "Does that mean that what they did was right?" She asked again while doing her best to remain composed, not wanting to seem even weaker or more fragile than she looked in front of Surtr. "What about me? Should I even still be a princess then? Am I no better than them?" Fussing about the situation, Vavara refused to look at Surtr, doing everything in her power to stop herself from crying.

But who will protect me?...

She embraced him and Surtrs arms both came around her pulling her in close. He sighed softly his hand slowly rubbing up and down her back to comfort the girl. "Right and wrong are merely two sides to the same coin." He said with a deep sigh, they had moved from a subject of inheritance to the topic of philosophy something even more difficult to explain. Though Surtr at least owed her his best attempt. "Morals are something that is subjective. So in our eyes we could see something as wrong, but in a vampires eyes it could be something they feel with their entire soul is right...." He said allowing another long sigh to escape his lips. "So if you believe what they did was right then it was.... I try to remain within the realm of science and fact to avoid such confusing and difficult subjects." Surtr said with a small smile and a chuckle.

Though at her next words he would tip her back so that she was forced to look upon him. "I may not know much but I know you are the princess of Karst, and you are one of the best person I've ever met." He said with smile and soft chuckle. It was obvious that he 100% meant exactly what he said there. He may not have enjoyed politics and philosophy but he fervently believed in what he just said. "You will always be my little one, my princess." He said softly a bright smile across his lips now extremely happy at least when it comes to her being right where she was. He knew this is where she belonged.

...and to the dust we shall return...

The words of Surtr helped the small princess somewhat, though she still was clearly in the process of grieving from her loss. She continued to keep her head down as he spoke, doing his best to explain the morals and how it would be almost impossible to get a straight answer about whether it was a morally right thing to do. AT least, that was what Vavara had gathered through her sulking while holding the king close. His finals words had more of a visible effect on her as she could only gaze up at his kind smile, always on his face as if painted there. She would shift her movement as her head continued to face downward. He might feel something wet hit his leg, then another a short time after. Vavara would would forced her eyes shut, unable to hold back the stream of tears anymore as she looked up at him and cried while hugging his tall frame. "S-Surtr..." She could only plead out, shoving her face into his chest as the princess continued to struggle to speak. "Please don't leave...My parents are dead...Mariana barely leaves her room...You're the only one I have left. I-I don't know what I would do if you went missing." Vavara admitted, having only but brief conversation with the other princess residing in the castle. Much like her, she had a distaste for Xavier, though nothing that her loss could even compare to. She continued for a few minutes, calming herself down after the third minute or so, wiping her eyes on her arms as she silently hung her head down, ashamed. "I am sorry you had to see that. I haven't told anyone since they passed..."

He would sit there holding her until he felt something wet, then another. Ignorantly he looked up to the sky for a second before rolling his eyes. "You idiot..." He mused to himself. He hadn't been around someone who cried in such a long time that he mistook it for rain. As soon as the water works started Surtrs knees would rise and his arms would wrap around her enveloping the girl with his form. His body naturally emanated a soft warmth due to his talent with fire but now it radiated outward far more. The warmth would soothe Vavara like the feeling of being wrapped in blankets fresh out of the dryer. If Vavara was paying close attention she would notice that while her head was buried in his chest she would hear no heart beat. Surtr in his attempts to comfort her had slipped up and allowed her to move to his left side. There would be no thud in his chest no rhythmic sound to indicate life. Even Surtr himself had momentarily forgotten about that too focused on comforting the princess.

She pleaded him to stay and Surtr chuckled softly as his left hand ran down her hair. "I was there the day you entered this world Vavara. I will not leave my little one." He whispered softly into her ear continuing to hold her. Intending to wash away this doubt from her. Vavara knew Surtr and his resolve when he said things he tended to stick by them. Those words were as good as an oath and It only meant that Vavara would be stuck with Surtr for a long time.

As The tears stopped Vavara apologize. Surtr shook his head before one of his arms slipped off her and his index and middle finger poked her forehead. A thing he often did when she was being silly. "Do not ever apologize for telling me how you feel. You are my princess. You are my little one." He whispered the last sentence. His words soft and full of endearment. A stark contrast from what he normally displayed only furthering the meaning of those words. He would put her doubt to rest now he would show her a side of him few get to see. She would understand just how important she was to him.
