"I am," Amaris preened, "the best by like, 30 miles, I am the best at being the best." She pressed her finger to her lips, winking. "Your secret is as safe as it's gonna get with me."

"Thanks a bunch! I knew I could count on you," Alise said cheerfully, content to know that Amaris wasn't about to betray her to her classmates or anything. "I guess you're not that bad, after all, despite the whole snow bunny thing."

Amaris just looked offended, but she was smart enough to leave it at that and not press the matter further. There were some things she didn't want to do, and one of them was arguing over the morals of killing snow monsters with a twelve-year-old girl. Thirteen? Twelve? Fourteen? ...she'd never actually asked how old Alise was, had she. Crap.

It was, perhaps, possible that Alise took some small satisfaction at Amaris' look of offense; despite her seemingly innocent nature, the preteen was at least somewhat secretly devious. Either that, or maybe she just was happy to have 'won' the argument for now. Handing Amaris the plush rabbit, Alise pointed out where the registers were, picking back up the boxes of candy canes she had intended on getting for Etoile before spotting the doll. Thanks to Amaris, she was going to be able to treat both herself and Etoile... all while keeping her secret safe. "You should meet Etoile sometime," Alise told Amaris, "I bet she'd like you."

Amaris knew the tricks of preteens who thought they were devious; she had a sister of her own, after all, and although Zinnia might have been less outwardly bold, she still tried to trick her elder sister into buying her things now and again. And Amaris was complicit in it, as she always was, because there was no harm in it and because it was less trouble if she went along with the faux-secretive ploys of younger girls. "Everyone likes me. I'm perfect." And she was back to a smug grin, just fake enough to make it clear she didn't believe a word she said.

"If you give her candy, she'd like you even more," Alise said, nodding. "Not as much as she does me, of course- I'm her best friend- but she likes it when people give her candy." This wasn't a plot to get Amaris to buy more things for her, but rather just her stating the facts. Having the older girl buy her the doll and carry it home for her was good enough- it kept Alise's childish secrets a secret still. Paying for the candy with the money she had brought with her, she turned towards Amaris, expectantly. "You're really going to get the rabbit for me, right, Amaris?"

"If you let me tutor you," Amaris sighed, long-suffering again. "And yes, I'm buying the rabbit. You'd kill me if I didn't, and so would I; I'd be, like, double-dead. That's worse than being a vampire." She nodded seriously, pulling her wallet out of her purse to hand over some cash to the cashier, who flashed her a sympathetic glance of kids, huh. "You're Knightside, right? Do you know Clementine Drew? I've been her English tutor for, like, four years..."

"Tutor me in what?" Alise asked, suspicious as to what conversations Amaris might have had with her mother. Actually- did this mean that they had met before? Suddenly, she wondered if there was some big conspiracy at play. Then Amaris mentioned Clem, and Alise thought back to the events of the previous week. "Yeah, I know her," she said, "We're really good friends, like best friends? Except cooler." (They were both senshi, too, but Alise couldn't talk about that in such a public space.) Daekie is amaris going to tutor alise in how to be less of an edgelord

"I'm an average student, I'm not going to college right now, but what classes are you taking?" Amaris shrugged. "I'm good at essays, lab reports, math problems -- stuff that takes months to finish isn't my style, but I've been told I do well before. Clementine went from a C to an A with my help, yanno." She said it like a secret, bending down to earnestly whisper in Alise's ear.

"Uh, like... the usual stuff? Math, Science, PE... I'm taking Home Ec and a keyboarding class?" Alise said, listing off some of the classes she was taking; some of them were required classes everyone took, the others were electives she had signed up for. "I dunno, I'm not good at this pre-algebra stuff, but you'll have to talk to my mom about it, and see what she thinks," she finally said, shrugging.

"Keyboarding I can't help with," Amaris winced, "but everything else I'm average in at worst...yeah, I'll talk to your mom about it. Talk up my good points," she winked at Alise, "which is, of course, all of them. All of me is good. All of me is also the best."

"You're gonna have to make up something about how we know each other- and you can't mention Etoile- but I guess she'll like you. Maybe. As long as you make her think you're going to be a good influence on me and not a bad one, anyways." Rabbit and candy acquired, there was nothing left to do now but for them to head for Alise's house. Alise wasn't exactly certain as to how Amaris was going to talk her mom into letting her tutor, but she'd leave it up to the older girl. Hopefully Amaris could come up with a good story.
