It was the only parent she spoke to anymore, after finding out her father cheated on her, Layla stopped contacting him. Along with seeing her father hit her mother for almost her whole life. When Jared told her his coffee order, she nodded. It seemed pretty easy to remember, also sort of gross. Layla liked her coffee with a lot of cream.
"I want it right here, I think. I have a picture of it. Layla said and pulled her phone back out of her pocket to find the tattoo she wanted. "You don't have to though, I've only got like 60 bucks extra on me. Plus how ever much I decide to charge the family I'm taking picture of tonight." Layla felt like she didn't deserve this nice treatment and good deal for a tattoo, felt like she was using him again. "I'll be right back, I'm gunna get our coffee now."
Coming back from the nearest Starbucks, Layla walked back into the shop with both cups in hand. Taking a sip from her's she walked over to Jared and handed his, normally she's one to ask to try the drink. But this one, she had no interest in. Black coffee wasn't her thing.

The tattoo Layla had presented wasn't complex in the slightest. Once she returned, Jared took the time to look at the photo once more while taking a small sip of his much needed hot beverage. "It would take me ten minutes tops. So, fifty bucks," he said casually, before handing the phone back to the girl. "Where do you want it?" Jared leaned back in his chair and let his gaze travel over her body once more, only a bit more obvious this time, as he tried to pinpoint where exactly it would look best.
He couldn't help but wonder if she remembered anything that happened last night. She must have known they hooked up - she woke up naked with his jacket still in the room. Perhaps she just preferred not to talk about it. Which, he guessed, he could understand. Jared took another drink of his coffee before putting it on the desk and glancing up at the clock on the wall. Noon was slowly approaching. He would be adding the finishing touches to his first clients tattoo today and he couldn't wait.

Now she was back at her apartment that smelt of cake, she took a quick shower to wash her body without getting her hair wet. Once she got out Layla decided she'd wear a nicer dress and loosely curl her hair for this double date she was about to go on. Make her ex jealous, finishing with her hair and applying just mascara on her short, unnoticeable eyelashes, Layla decided she was finished. It was 8:20 so she decided on calling Jared in a couple of minutes.
Hearing a knock on her door, Layla walked from her room to the front door, and opened it to see Jared. He was wearing a nice dress shirt which looked good on him. "Hey. Ya look nice." Layla commented before leaving the front door open and walking back to her room. Putting her zip up hoodie on, she pushed her feet into her white canvas sneakers she got from Target and grabbed her wallet and keys. "Ready?" She asked with a smile.

The man looked into the mirror and bit his lip slightly. It would be false to say he wasn't nervous. Slipping the last button through it's hole, Jared smoothed out his dress shirt and tucked it neatly into his pants before strapping on his brown leather belt. The form-fitting shirt fit his muscular build perfectly, accentuating his broad shoulders and refined biceps. His hair was styled with a dab of pomade but he'd left it slightly untamed, the way he liked it, and his beard was shaped perfectly. He looked sharp and smelled absolutely fantastic.
Jared stopped in front of Layla's house and stepped out, eyeing her home up and down as he walked up the porch and gave the door a couple raps of his knuckle. The man dug his hands into his pockets while he waited for Layla to answer, fingers fiddling with a half empty packet of cigarettes until he heard the click of the lock. The delicious smell of baked goods hit him like a brick the moment the door opened which put a smile on his face. "Yeah, you too," he said honestly, allowing himself a step inside while she ventured back down the hallway.
Layla returned a moment later wearing a hoodie with her keys and wallet clasped in her hand. "I think so," he answered with a warm smile. Together they walked out to his vehicle that was parked on the side of the road. Jared waited for Layla to buckle herself in before starting the car and driving down the road. A bit of a smile played on his lips as he looked over at the girl briefly. "How you doing?" He asked, curious as to if she was nervous or not.

She was watching out the window as she tapped her fingers on her covered thighs to the beat. When hearing the brunette male speak, she turned her head to him. "I'm good, a little nervous but I'm hoping everything goes just fine." Layla answered his question with a smile. "What about you?" She asked.
Getting to the restaurant, Layla dug into her wallet and handed Jared two 20 dollar bills. "Here, I'm paying for your dinner but you're gunna make it look like you are. Daniel's really judgmental about this stuff even though I paid for most of our meals." Jared had told her at his work to pay for his dinner, which Layla wanted to do. She begged him to come along to this date. Getting out of his car, she stuffed her house keys and wallet into her sweater. "Let's do this." Layla smirked and walked into the place, looking around, she noticed Daniel waving towards the two. "Hello you two." Daniel sneered as Layla and Jared walked towards them.

"Fantastic," he muttered, slipping the two twenties into his back pocket. He hadn't even properly met this Daniel guy and he already wanted to punch a hole through his face. Nonetheless, Jared took Layla by the hand and guided her into the restaurant. He was prepared to speak to the hostess regarding the reservations although that was when Daniel walked up to them. Almost instantly, a smile stretched across his face as if he was the luckiest man in the world to finally be meeting Layla's infamous ex boyfriend. "Daniel! Good to finally meet you, buddy." Jared shook Daniel's hand firmly before pulling him into a manly - yet painful - hug that elicited a bit of a groan from her ex boyfriend.
With a friendly clap on the back, Jared just grinned and pulled away before taking Layla's hand once more and walking towards their table. He allowed the brunette to slip into the booth first before sliding in beside her, helping himself to one of the menus that was put to the side. Daniel was rubbing his back slightly as he sat down in front of Jared with a grimace. "I think I might get the sirloin with chicken fettucini alfredo," he said to Layla, eyes skimming over the alcoholic beverages now. "What do you want?"

She tried not to laugh out loud and let out a quiet snort. Letting go of his hand, she slid into the booth and smoothed her dress down, reaching for a menu at the end of the table, Layla stared at it even though she knew what she wanted. She'd been craving a burger for a couple of days. "I want the burger with onion rings and a strawberry lemonade." Layla smiled towards her fake boyfriend while closing the menu and setting it back at the end of the table. "What are you getting Hun?" Daniel asked his new girlfriend, Amanda. Layla went to high school and knew exactly who this girl was. "I'm going to get the steak and baked potato." She said quietly to Daniel. "Oh, no Manda, you should get the salad." He recommended yet sounded more like he demanded. "You're kidding me." Layla said in a flat voice, she couldn't believe Daniel was telling the girl what to order. "No I'm not Layla." Daniel snapped back to her, Layla's eyes widened and looked away from Daniel. "Alright." She surrendered, and took her sweater off.
Layla thought it was shitty for Amanda but didn't want to argue with Daniel anymore, she wanted to tell Amanda to order what ever she would like. Although she knew Daniel would go off on her. It was his temper that got out of control.

Jared had chosen to stay out of it. What went on in their relationship was between them. What he wasn't expecting was how Daniel raised his voice at Layla, and how quickly she was to surrender. He looked towards Layla's ex briefly before focusing on Amanda, who had also went silent and put her menu aside. "Please, order whatever you want. It's on me." His voice was low and comforting, a contrast to what Daniel's was a moment ago, which made Amanda smile a little. Her boyfriend on the other hand was sitting there with an incredulous look on his face.
"No--she's getting the salad," Daniel said defiantly, before turning his attention to Layla in disgust. "I can't be seen dating another cow..." He muttered.
Jared's jaw tensed. Don't hit him. Don't hit him. You can't afford to spend another night in jail. "Alright," he said aloud, taking Layla by the wrist this time and moving out of the booth in an instant. "I think we're done here." He hoped Layla wouldn't insist they stay, and he really hoped for Daniel's sake that he'd keep his mouth shut and let them leave in peace.

He was a really sweet guy. Once Daniel, had snapped at Jared again, along with making a comment about Layla being a cow. "Oh." Layla chuckled, she was used to mean words coming out of peoples towards her, so this didn't even phase her. Once her wrist was grabbed, Layla grabbed her sweater and followed Jared's lead. "Whatever, Layla can't even hold down a real job anyways. You probably have some lousy job too." Daniel sneered. Now that one sort of hurt to hear, most people she knew were supportive of her jobs.
Grabbing a hold of Jared's hand, she felt him tense up. "Please don't, it's not worth it." Layla pleaded, she really didn't want the cops to get called on him in a family restaurant. Unless the two were fast enough to run, leave and get out of the area before anyone else showed up, but also Daniel had a warrant out for his arrest so maybe he'd deny anyone calling the cops. Please don't turn around, please don't turn around. Layla repeated in her head.

Before Layla could even finish that sentence, he tore his hand from her grasp and slammed his fist into Daniel's face. He could have sworn he heard a crunch as the guy crumpled to the floor, clasping a hand over his face while everyone in the restaurant stared in shock. "s**t," he hissed, taking Layla by the hand once more and hightailing it the hell out of there. "Good thing you're not wearing heels," he tried to joke as they ran towards the car. Jared looked back over his shoulder quickly before running around the vehicle and ducking into the drivers seat and stepping on the gas.
Slightly out of breath, the male clasped both hands tightly over the steering wheel before glancing over at Layla. "I wish I could tell you I was sorry," he began, "but I'm not," he said flatly. Even now, his blood was still sizzling from the snide remarks Daniel had made. "He had it coming." The male slowly lowered his foot onto the brake as they approached a red light before looking over at Layla.

Turning around, she watched Jared walk back up to Daniel and punch him in the face. Layla would have yelled but she was so shocked Jared did so, once grabbing her hand, she ran along next to him. "What in the world just happened?!" Layla said while getting into Jared's car, as he sped out of the parking lot and down the road, Layla caught her breath. "I don't want you to tell me sorry anyways." Layla said while running her fingers through her hair. That was probably the wildest thing she's ever done and Layla didn't even punch the boy. "Holy ********> She laughed while turning her head towards Jared.
"Just take me to my house, we could order pizza or Chinese and drink beer." Layla told him, "Only if you would like to though." She offered, she'd understand if he said no. The two weren't really friends, and didn't know each other very well.

Jared looked at Layla like she was ridiculous for even asking. Pizza and beer? "Where have you been all my life?" Was all he said, before he stomped on the gas with a wicked grin and raced to Layla's place.
- time skip -
It wasn't too long long before they were lounging on her couch, with two empty pizza boxes and more than a dozen empty beer bottles splayed out on the coffee table in front of them. They were halfway through their second movie - The Conjuring 2. Jared had made himself at home by changing into a pair of plaid panama pants and t-shirt that belonged to Layla's brother. "You want another beer?" He asked, getting up off the couch to grab himself another from the kitchen.

"No thanks." She said and watched the movie start, Layla wasn't the biggest fan of scary movies but this one didn't look too bad and the reviews were out of this world. The only down side was she hadn't seen the first one before.
Once, Jared had sat back down on the couch, Layla rested her head on his shoulder. "Not going to lie, I'm the biggest lightweight ever." Layla giggled. It was true, after 4 or 5 beers, she was drunk, and the 7 beers she just drank did the same exact thing to her. "Thank's for helping me out these past two days, you're nice." Layla mumbled before pressing her lips onto Jared's.

Jared sat back into the couch with a groan before taking a swig of his beer, resting his free arm across the back of the couch. He didn't mind that Layla had made herself comfortable on him. What she said elicited a soft chuckle from his lips. "I can tell. You're slurring your words a bit." Jared just smiled at Layla before looking towards the tv once more. He certainly wasn't as far gone as Layla was at present, although he was definitely beginning to feel a nice buzz. His insides felt warm and there was a slight tingle in his fingers to go with it. He felt good.
Jared looked down at Layla once more when she thanked him for his help, although before he could respond, her lips were pressed to his in a warm and welcoming kiss. He let his lips do the talking for a while longer, until he felt obliged to break the kiss when Layla decided to make herself comfortable on his lap. "We shouldn't do this, Layla" he mumbled. "It's unethical. You're drunker than I am," he pointed out with a laugh. Although at this point he was in such a '******** it' mood that, if she continued kissing him, they would probably end up in the same predicament as yesterday morning.

"Sorry." She said and crawled back to her spot on the couch. "I'm not that type of person." Layla said and moved her eyes to the movie. She really wasn't that type of person, Jared was the first time she'd ever came home from a party before. "I mean, I don't regret what we did. I think you're cool, I just don't normally do that." Layla tried to explain even though most of it was the beer talking.
"I really liked that you punched that a*****e in the face today. That was really cool." She mumbled, while adjusting the t-shirt that was a couple sizes too big on her. It was her favorite to sleep with since it was so comfortable.
