The kiss was fierce and desperate and she needed it. She needed it to ground her like she needed air to breathe. She was drowning and the kiss was her lifeline, taking her away from everything until the taste of salt worked its way between their lips and onto her tongue. Tears-- She was crying again, weak and wounded and gasping for air as their lips parted. She held on to him tightly for one moment longer before shoving him away from her as forcefully as she could. "No! No..." Tourmaline took a deep breath as she stepped back, bringing the back of her hand up to rub at her face. "That was goodbye. It won't happen again. I will never happen again." Her voice was low and there was a trace of uncertainty as though she wasn't clear on whether or not she was saying the words for his benefit or her own. She couldn't be this close to him and breathe. She wasn't sure she would ever be able to breathe again. "You killed someone very important to me. Go. Now. Leave. Before I regret letting you leave and you, whoever you are, joins Aluminite in the afterlife. If I ever see you again you're just as dead as he is, do you understand?"

Kissing Tourmaline like this was reminiscent of their first kiss and he wished he could've had her pushed against a wall if only to keep her from ripping away and leaving him. His heart fluttered in his chest when the kiss finally broke, suddenly too aware of the tears streaming down her face, thumb rubbing against her cheek briefly. Midgard wanted to call her Kit again, almost desperately, and to kiss away the tears on her cheek.
"Don't. Please don't do this again." Midgard was begging her, one hand reaching out to her like she'd let him touch him again. She had walked away from him once before and now...now he didn't know if he could let her walk away again.
But was that fair of him? To demand that she stay for someone who did not, technically, exist anymore?
"Stop it! I'm not dead, but I was as good as dead back then, as...that." Aluminite was not a person that had a future or a real life if he stayed in the Negaverse. It wasn't the life he'd been meant to lead.
The rational side of him knew that leaving was the best thing but he couldn't, not when he had too much to say. "I - " he stopped, he wanted to tell her the depth of his feelings but couldn't. "Don't give up on me, because I'm never giving up on you."
He wasn't sure what he meant about that, if he meant that he would never stop trying to save her, to make her see the light and reason and how terrible the Negaverse and her general truly were. Or if he meant that he'd chase her, romantically, but it didn't matter because it was out there.

Tourmaline laughed bitterly and her chest ached. The feeling pierce- d deeper than her heart, sinking down further to become a painful weight on her soul. He just kept hurting her, would always keep hurting her-- That might not have been the words he said, but that was all she could hear. "Don't you understand? I never want to see you again. I am going to tell everyone about you. I am going to tell everyone to hunt you. You turned your back on us. You turned your back on me." She snapped, her ire rising to the point where the wild look had returned to her eyes again. Captain Tourmaline looked like a beast caged in her own skin and she wasn't sure how long she could keep trusting herself around him. "Tell me you're still you. Tell me about our first date and I'll take everything back." That was the real test. He could claim to be himself, claim to be Wonderboy all he wanted, but only the him that was there would know why she'd started calling him that in the first place.

Midgard found himself locked in place, shoulders tense and rigid. "It doesn't have to be this way," he tried, feeling like his voice was thick in his throat. "I - my sister, she - " he stopped because his voice was shaking and it was so hard to think when she was looking at him like that. He could see her anger, the pain, swirling in those bright green eyes of her that nearly matched his own.
"I only - " he clamped his mouth shut. He didn't know how to tell her that he only remembered things when he was Aluminite, not James.
"It depends...on what you consider the first." He didn't remember the not-dates, but he remembered talking about them. "There was a night, where we went to some burger place you loved, the bag had so many grease stains and...you made me catch you." He liked that, he thought he remembered. "You always wanted me to catch you."

"Aluminite and Tourmaline, yes, that was us as them. Dinner on a roof... But that wasn't the first time you took me out." She eyed him warily now, taking another slow step back towards the ledge only to step up onto it again. Her back was to the street, eyes still on him. "You have no idea how much I want to believe you." Her voice had dropped low, all of the anger and rage replaced by more hurt than she could fathom. "I ran, but I always let you catch me. You were always right there. I always knew where to find you again... And now you're gone. If you don't remember the first place you took me, all the thought you put into it... You're not you. You're gone."

He wanted to lie to her, to try and piece together his fray memories enough to reconstruct a hopefully true recollection of their first date. Instead, he looked away, ashamed of the fact that despite desperately wanting to, he couldn't remember.
The gaps in his memory where he'd been...whomever he'd been.
Midgard didn't even know his name. "I know, I liked chasing you," he said quietly, trying not to focus on the fact that he was incapable of telling her what she wanted to hear.
"I only remember him, the captain," the admission spilled from his lips with a heavy sigh and he stepped back, giving her a wider berth of space when he finally lifted his head. "Please Kit," he said without thought, knowing it was likely going to anger her the second it left his lips. "Come with me."

"That's not enough! It's not enough to only know half of me when you used to know it all. You... I thought you knew me." There was a lump in her throat that only seemed to grow bigger the longer she watched him. She was going to start crying again and she didn't want anyone who didn't know her, all of her, to see her cry. "His name was Aluminite, and you'll do well to remember it, especially if that is all you remember. You remember that name because he was the man that I knew and the man that I will hunt you down because of. The only reason why I am not attacking you now is out of respect for his memory." Tourmaline hoped that he was listening to her. She hoped that he was taking all of her words to heart, but knowing him? Such sweetness, such hope... "You don't get to chase me anymore, Squire. Now I'll be chasing you." She flashed him a toothy grin that didn't make it up to her eyes, watching him before stepping back off of the ledge. The drop to the awning below was not nearly enough of a freefall to take any of the edges off of her, but it gave her just enough of a dramatic flare to her exit to give her an opportunity to teleport away.

Midgard's mouth opened then clamped shut. It was unfair of him to think the words he wanted to say. He knew he hurt her and he wanted to fix that. Couldn't she see that he was hurting too?
"Then teach me." He tried instead, knowing that unless she took the leap that he did, they were never going to get to that point again.
But he still wanted and hoped and pleaded. "I know what his name was." There was something bitter in the way he spoke and he tried not to look at her with the hatred he felt for the institution they'd both once belonged in. Every single word she said felt like a stab to the heart but he took it and he tried, desperately not to show how much it made him ache inside.
He was watching her as she stepped away from him and without thinking, he was rushing forward, barely stopping at the edge, words spilling out of his mouth before he could help it. "He - i - we loved, love you, you know."
It was likely that she probably didn't even hear him, though his voice bounced off the wall.
He couldn't see her anyway and her energy signature...
Heaving a sigh, Midgard left trying not to let his heart shatter more than it already was.
