"Mk." Kyril took a deep breath as she waited on her brother. They had this! At least she hoped so. The girl swallowed against her nerves before trying to climb up on her brother, "So-sorry." She squeaked as she fell the first couple of times. Eventually, however, Kyril found herself balanced just enough. Now her aunty told her if she pushed that one piece out just like that...ugh why wasn't it moving?! Her little fingers just weren't strong enough on this one! Frustration made the girls' face darken as she continued to try.
Sudden noises from the other side of the wagon made the girl gasp. Oh no, oh no! Gaze widening, Kyril froze. What did they do? Did they hide here? There were men coming to the same door!
"Koril...the bags...." She scampered down from her brother before diving into a pile of the bags. Tugging Koril after her, Kyril waited a few moments and nearly screamed as the door suddenly was pulled open. Oh there they were! One of the men from the market with those red eyes and dark skin. Her body shivered as he moved forward. Was he looking for them?
Yet....her gaze did light up. It would be risky, but could they....please, please, please. I promise I'll be good and not take extra sweets from now on...I'll even let Kori have mine if he wants. Begged the girl silently as the man took a few more steps forward. The guy was muttering something beneath his breath, but as soon as she saw space between his back and the door Kyril motioned to Koril.
It would be a chance, but the door was wide open because the man didn't expect the kids to have moved already. So while he moved towards where they had been they could slip out!

Koril let out a muffled squeak of his own as Kyril slipped up. He would be strong for his sister! He would be the best stand that she had ever stood on! "Kyril, hurry up!" he hissed as the seconds ticked by. He nearly bit his tongue when he heard the noise outside, looking up at Koril with wide eyes. Clinging tight to Kyril's hand, he gasped sharply as he dove after her behind the bags and saw the dim firelight brighten the space slightly. His hand was shaking...
He looked at the door as Kyril pointed, and it took a moment to sink in. The guy was leaving the door open! The guy was grumbling about something under his breath; distracted. Koril looked pensively at Kyril, waiting for her to indicate when to go. Let the guy get a little further in... He squeezed Kyril's hand and crept out from their hiding place, red eyes darting between the man's back and the door. Careful... Careful... He poked his head out the door, breath hitching when he saw a handful of men sitting around a fire and setting up tents. He took a deep breath before dropping from the caravan, pausing to wait for Kyril to climb down.
From there, he saw a few creatures tied to the trees. Mostly there were quhar, but also a couple janarii and a couple xaraanis. The janarii were scary, but maybe they could get one of the other animals to take them home..?

Kyril tried to imagine that they were like the wind. If they were the wind then they could slip away quickly! And hopefully quietly. The girl honestly was on the verge of tears as she followed her brother through the shadows. If they messed up here would they ever see their family again? Mommy...daddy... She felt her breath hitch at the thought before forcing herself to follow Koril's gaze.
"Do you think...we could?" She whispered ever so quietly. Not like they had much time. The girl could already imagine the angry yelling which would soon enough startled the camp. "I believe in you Koril....pick one." She closed her hand tightly around her brother's. They could do this! And if not then she was prepared to bite and scream until they could get away for good!

Looking back at his sister, Koril's brow knit. She.. really thought he could do it? He looked back at the animals and focused on a xaraan. If he was remembering properly, they were fast. They would both fit better on a janarim... but he didn't dare approach one of those.
Crouching low, he crept toward the animals. Papa had talked about riding a xaraan before. If only he had paid more attention to that story!
He approached the tall creature, sticking his hand out as he'd been taught to when approaching strange animals. The xaraan looked down at him, and he froze.
Despite the underhanded crew it traveled with, this xaraan was actually quite well tamed. It knew what the earthlings generally wanted of it. With a little squawk, it pecked slightly at the reins holding it to the tree. Koril tugged the straps free, and yelped as the creature started to head off without them. "Wait!" he yelled without thinking, the hairs on his head prickling a split second later. The xaraan did stop to look, but so did the men working on the tents. "Kyky!" he grabbed his sister's hand and ran for the xaraan.
Even with the sudden urgency in the air and the little boy yanking its reins, the creature squatted calmly to allow passengers on.

Kyril found herself holding her breath. Would it attack them? Yet, Koril had chosen well. Happily she squeezed her brother before watching in disbelief as the creature left....without them. If it hadn't been such a desperate situation then the girl may have been tempted to laugh at the hilarity of the scene.
"Kori-ko!" Kyril's heart was racing as she heard the curses erupting in the air as the men behind them finally realized that their little passengers had left the wagon. Reaching for her brother's hand Kyril ran with all that she had.
As they swung onto the beast the girl closed her eyes and wrapped her arms around her brother tightly, "Go, go, go!" She didn't know at first if it would work, but suddenly they were flying across the sands. Thankfully they had gotten hold of the Xaraan in time while the rest of the animals seemed a bit reluctant to saddle up.
It would give the two children plenty of time to race across the sands and back towards the ocean shore line where they could both tumble, exhausted, back into the arms of those who knew to take them back home to their worried family.
