The snow rabbits seemed more spooked by the sudden charge then the flame, bounding and leaping away from the two boys' rush through them. They had learned of Caelum's first run through, and acted accordingly by turning back toward them to exact vengeance. Thankfully, they fizzed with a pop on the flaming branch before making contact.
Just when the sidewalk was within distance, Caelum took no chances. He grabbed at Jack's arm and jerked it. "We're almost there!" he said. "We should jump!"

The older boy watched the rabbits with astonishment as they first leapt away and then attacked before seeming to disappear with a pop instead of being burned by his fire. He thought he'd seen the ones that Caelum had fought off before disappear in the same way, but since he'd been on the gym at the time, it'd been too far for him to be sure of what he'd seen. Up close, though, it seemed these things really weren't normal creatures.
He was so distracted by the rabbits and what became of them that he didn't realize the sidewalk was coming up until he felt Caelum grab his arm as he told him they should jump. Jack hesitated for a fraction of a second before nodding and doing as the other instructed. Maybe Caelum didn't act experience causing trouble, but he certainly had experience doing something.
He seemed braver than Jack had initially made him out to be, and while Jack didn't necessarily value bravery, being of the opinion that it was synonymous with stupidity, he still found something to be admired about how the pink-haired young man kept his red-haired peer close as they crossed the threshold of safety.
In their haste, though, with a flaming branch in one hand as he was hurrying backwards and with Caelum jerking him toward the sidewalk, Jack tripped on the concrete's edge and tumbled to the ground, dropping the branch as he did so. He was on his feet again in seconds, however, and looking around for the other teen, wondering if he'd bowled him over with his own fall. "Cae? You okay?"

Caelum and concrete were intimate acquaintances; it seemed they met face-to-face more often than the boy realized.
Or desired.
This time was no different, Jack's trip did indeed bowl the pink-haired boy over to the sidewalk. He seemed to take it all in stride, however. He knew his fair share of falls as a senshi (still couldn't land those roof jumps right!) and was far beyond crying out in pain when he hit a portion of his body.
Instead, he grit his teeth as he righted himself, rubbing his nose. Why is it always the nose? Caelum thought in dismay, before looking over to Jack.
"Oh yea, I'm fine," he said, groaning. "My face broke my fall." He couldn't help a laugh at his own expense before his tone grew concerned again. "How about you? That was a nasty spill. Are you bleeding or anything? Did any of those things get you?"

Jack instinctively glanced up to Caelum's face when the pink-haired boy mentioned it had broken his fall, but forced a laugh to accompany the other teen's shortly after. At least it didn't appear to be bleeding or broken. He was mildly surprised he wasn't being blamed for having toppled the other boy over in the first place, since it was technically his fault.
Instead, he was being asked a lot of concerned questions. It was an odd change of pace, especially for a kid used to his own fair share of scrapes, cuts, and falls. "Huh? Oh, no, I'm good," he managed after taking a moment to recompose himself. He’d deal with the fact that he owed Caelum later.
Jack his switched mode of thought, already wondering how far away he'd dropped the branch and if it was worth picking up again. The swarming rabbits were reminding him a little too much of the weird, swarming poinsettias from the botanical garden. "What are those things? Will they come after us on the sidewalk?"Unoderi (( sweatdrop So sorry for the wait. New job's been hectic. Also, your avi's really cute.))

Caelum stood and brushed snow from his coat and pants, dipping his head in affirmation when Jack mentioned he was fine. Turning his concern back to the snow rabbits, he wasn't sure what to make of them, and let a small pause hang between his companion's question and his reply.
Eventually, he said, "I... don't know? Like, I don't know what they are or if they're gonna follow us, but"—he hooked his thumb over his shoulder—"we should get out of here before they decide to continue the chase."

“You didn’t seem surprised when they poofed into nothing…” the red-head murmured under his breath, but let the subject drop. Even if Caelum knew something he didn’t - or something he did and just didn’t want to admit it - as long as they stuck together, Jack figured at least one of them would have an idea of what to do.
He nodded in agreement at the red-eyed teen’s suggestion. “Probably.” Then he scratched the back of his neck as he glanced back at the little white rabbit-shaped things. “Listen...whether or not you meant to, I appreciate you helping me out, there. And I don’t like owing people. So, uh...if you wanted to go get something like a hot fudge sundae, it’s my treat.”

Caelum pretended he didn't hear anything. Of course he didn't hear anything. Just... gonna brush that under the rug. Nope, nope, not saying anything.
Instead, he jumped right at the offer of a hot fudge sundae probably quicker than the rabbits that were chasing them. "Oh heck yea, that sounds great!" he cried, almost cheered. His enthusiasm literally launched him to his feet. Internally, he berating himself for sounding like a kid. Old habits die hard, it seemed.
"Fair's fair and all. Let's go!"
Kitomyx we can end it on your post or this one if you want~

Jack grinned at Caelum’s sudden enthusiasm. Whether it was for the change of subject, the prospect of a sweet, warm treat, or both, he still found it amusing. It reminded him how young the other teen still was and, with himself nearly being the same age, how young he was, as well.
Despite their years, though, they still had to be wary of the world. Suspecting that Caelum might have also had a part in the secret war being waged behind the scenes the same as him, the red-headed boy felt a peculiar sense of loss. It was bad enough that children like them had to deal with such dangers so early on, but to have to keep such large secrets about what they knew? It seemed like pretty heavy burdens for such narrow shoulders.
Caelum was different from him, though. The pink-haired teen’s apparent experience and knowledge displayed in the situation regarding the rabbits suggested he knew more about occurrences like that than he let on, but the way he had forgotten to seem surprised about the poofing rabbits or how he had been so nervous when encountered by the cop at the botanical gardens told Jack that he wasn’t used to being sneaky or trying to get away with things he shouldn’t have been doing.
Cae was a good kid. Jack somewhat envied and even grudgingly admired that a little, but he was still glad he himself wasn’t so ignorant or naive. Still, out of respect for his peer, he questioned him no further about his potential role in the war of powered beings. Let the slip about the rabbits be a warning to him. Perhaps he would learn to be more cautious in the future.
“Okay, you got it,” the hazel-eyed teen chuckled, already turning his back on the white furry monsters to stroll toward the nearest eating place where they could get a sundae.Unoderi ((Thanks so much for rping with me~! whee Hope we can do another one soon!))
