Sylvia tilted her head slightly at Zan, “Well, they may not be hiding from us, they may be hiding from whatever they think is here.” She shrugged, “Either way, caution is important. Don’t assume someone would mean us harm, but be on guard.” She glanced back around the kitchen, at the running fridge and the stocked cabinets, and shook her head, “Still… I’m hoping we weren’t sent into an occupied house without some sort of warning…”
They seemed to have found everything they could in this room. She turned back towards the hallway in preparation to leave – but then Zan asked his question. She gave the hall a curious look before shaking her head at Zan, a confused sort of frown on her face as she met his gaze. “No, not that I noticed. Why?” She gave a sideways glance to the hall again, a worried look on her face. “Should we not go back that way?” She wasn’t exactly sure how they would get back to the rest of the house if they couldn’t go outside or through the hallway…
It was a bit unnerving that both of her companions had been spooked already. It was probably this thought that highlighted the creeping feeling at her neck. Something seemed to hover, then approached, and she jerked at the tickle that followed. She reached a hand back and forcefully struck the area of her neck in question, shrugging her shoulder as well. When she pulled her hand away and examined it, she was relieved to find a black smear with broken wings left behind. Still, she grimaced, and eagerly brushed her hands together to get rid of it.
Shaking her shoulders and her head again, she huffed out a breath and looked squarely down the hallway again. “We can’t let the idea of a haunting defeat us, guys. Let’s just keep moving.” She smiled back at her partners before making her way back towards the living room so that they could ascend to the next floor.
