Meoquanee almost wanted giggle at the sight of his tongue sticking out. She was caught by surprise when he got up and bellied up to her. Her legs were stiff and her talons left furrows in the dirt as he pushed her toward the kill. She looked up at him. "F-for me? B-but you d-didn't have t-to that!" Her world had just been soundly turned on it's head this day. Not only had she been rescued by this big lunk, he was giving her first pick at his kill. Her front leg feathers twitched as her mind tried to wrap around this new reality.
Now she felt Tahnee was correct in that they needed to pay this feline back some way. Later she could talk with her lion and discuss options. "I-I'm a little shocked. Thank you Caesar. And to you Cleo." When Cleo came down and pecked his paw until he moved it, she took a deep breath. She wouldn't be scared of him anymore! Although he denied it, he was a hero to her. A bit braver now the little microraptor stepped up and dug a bite out of the prey. Her tiny little teeth perfect for helping to open the tough hide. She happily gulped down the delicious bite. Never had it tasted so good. Tahnee nodded. "Aye, she was! Most adorable little foal. Cute little beak and great big eyes. Melt your heart in an instant. And of course that unfinished chick look that only a mother could love." She looked fondly at the microraptor. At the invitation to join in, she jumped up and helped herself. She tensed a moment as Ceasar blocked her precious friend, then realized what he was doing. Cleo helped by doing exactly the right thing to make Meo relax. Yes, this pair understood perfectly.
"Ah so it's not his first time coming to the rescue." She grinned at the bigger cat. "I certainly appreciated the save back there." Tahnee nodded with sympathy. She knew about lonely too. Before she'd found Meo, she'd been alone as well. "Indeed they do my friend." Meo flushed with embarrassment and nearly choked on her meat. "Tahnee!" She hissed urgently. Being embarrassed in front of her new friend wasn't how she wanted to start this. Was it? The tiny mare looked around at the molty group. They were laughing and having a good time. This was what it felt like to belong? To not be afraid of something all the time? Cleo was obviously well loved and cared for.
Nervously she turned to face him. Dwarfed by his mere presence she pawed at the ground. "If..... if it's ok with you both. I'd like to stay too."

Putting his foot back to the ground the big tom cat tilted his head curiously, his golden eyes fixed on the little bird as she took a satisfying gulp. He smiles lightly, he could imagine her as a baby, he decided to go with, cuter than now and littler, which was a hard concept for him to perceive because she was already so little to him.
"I hunt for those who need it Meo, you needed it more than I do. Plus I could do with shifting a few pounds." He grumbles a comical grin on his maw.
He pauses for a moment looking deeply thoughtful "Yes I think you should both stay with us. I wouldn't be happy if you got eaten." He nods an affirmative. "It's decided then."Cleo shakes her head and laughs, he really was a glorious idiot in her mind but he was kind to a fault. He didn't need to shift any weight and she knew full well he wasn't hungry. He'd hunted because he wanted to feed the pair he had just adopted.
"Looks like our family just got a little bigger." She opens her wings returning to the kill pulling away strips and eating her fill.Caesar looks at his bird companion and nods his head "That's the point of families, they get bigger and protect each other." He purrs and lowers his head carefully licking the little birds tail gently where the black predator had pulled her feathers from. "I'll protect you unless you don't want me to." He stretches his fore paws and yawns widely. "Eat your fill and take a nap, I'll keep watch while you sleep."

Meoquanee knew he was good at heart. She didn't know how or why, but she was grateful for what she'd found. "Well I certainly hope you don't expect me to eat all this." She laughed for it was several times her size. If he continued to catch prey this big, none of them would go hungry. Not even if she and the familiars ate first.
Family. The word felt right despite the seriously odd group they made. "So did ours," she replied smiling at Cleo. She was happy to have another feathered friend, just as she was sure Tahnee would enjoy Caesar's feline company. All in all, they were well matched. The cleaning stung a little, but she submitted to it. If not him, then Tahnee would be after it. "I'll always want you to protect us. We'll help you in any way we can." It was going to be the small things. She nodded and went to fill her belly before tucking herself against his side for her nap. Tahnee gave a deep purr as Meo made the first step. It was clear after Cleo mentioned it, that he'd wanted to include them in his protection. Meo had had to overcome her fear of anything big. She'd risen to the occasion beautifully. From the look of the start, they would be well fed and protected. She ate, then cleaned, waiting for Meo to eat and fall asleep. Tahnee moved over beside him and spoke softly. "Thank you. I was afraid she'd never find anyone else to open up to." It wasn't much, but it was a good start.
