Aubrey smiled and shrugged. "It's not a bad thing to rely on other people, and I might surprise you, I'm pretty strong even if I don't work in a forge." she added with a little laugh and a squeeze of his hand before she sat back in her chair.
"New things are good! maybe some other time you can show me something you know how to do, like making a weapon, or any of your other hobbies, besides even if you fall it will be great memories and good exercise... If it wont be too embarrassing I can hold your hand around the rink until you find your balance." she offered brushing her hair back away from her face while a stubborn breeze kept blowing it back into her eyes.
Her gaze momentarily traveled upwards to look at the fat snowflakes falling around them before looking back at Samir, she wasn't even wanting to look for Lopezite anymore, she was happy just being with Sam. She took a sip of her hot chocolate and smiled contentedly.

"It's not exactly the relying on other people," Samir insisted, "It's making sure you can rely on yourself, too. You learn by making mistakes--and I'm not afraid to get a few bruises along the way. I meant no offense," he laughed. "You seem plenty strong, forge or not. But, perhaps, it would be for the best if you did hold my hand. At least, until I get my balance?" he suggested, a bit playfully.
He winked, for good measure. "And in exchange, I would be happy to show you my forge. It can be dangerous for someone with no experience, but I am a good teacher, and I would keep you safe. My other hobbies are not so exciting, I fear. Dogs and cars," he informed, grinning.

"I guess I can understand your reasoning, but maybe I was just looking for an excuse to hold your hand?" Aubrey responded with a little wink back, "But it will be there when you are ready for it." she offered.
"Well, I'm pretty resilient too, but the forge sounds like fun, as you could see I knew nothing about cars, but it would be a good thing to learn, maybe a little bit of your knowledge will rub off on me so I'll be able to fix something on my own next time it breaks." Aubrey finished up her hot chocolate and glanced down at her watch again.
"Well... It's been ten minutes." she stood and offered him her hand with a grin. "How about we try some new things and make good memories?"

Samir couldn't help but laugh. "I hope you don't learn too much. I like people needing me, I'd be sad if you managed to learn enough to get by."
He pushed himself up from the seat and finished the last bit of hot chocolate before tossing the empty cup into the trash.
"Ten minutes, huh?" he asked, sighing. "I guess that's more than enough time. Well. We tried, yeah?"
It was rhetorical; he extended a hand to help her up. "Come on, come show me how to skate, I guess," he laughed.

"What happened to being self reliant and not needing anyone to hold your hand?" Aubrey teased as she took his hand and stood up, she threw away her cup. "Or does that only apply to you and your manliness."
She was clearly teasing as she held onto his hand and pulled him towards the rink. She got him outfitted with skates and brought him to the edge of the rink.
"Think of it like sliding on a slick floor with socks, its the same basic principle." she instructed as she took a few glides out onto the ice and turned in a neat circle to face him with a grin on her face. "You've got this, and if you don't I promise not to laugh."

"Oh, I don't need to hold anyone's hand," he promised, giving hers a squeeze.
Once they were on the ice he took a moment to ground himself, getting used to the ice. He didn't do anything dramatic or move too quickly. He began with a simple glide, shifting positions and managing his weight.
For all his talk, he seemed to have fairly good balance and while he was no expert on the ice, within a short few seconds he learned how to twist and glide. He did a slight spin, slow and careful, but winked at Aubrey.
"I'm not eating ice yet," he laughed. "You know any fancy moves?"

"My brother did his best with teaching me, but I'm afraid I'm not very good a figure skating, I picked up on punching and throwing things more easily than twirling and gliding." Aubrey responded as she skated around him in slow circles.
"Kerrigan is actually the natural when it comes to figure skating, but she doesn't like to do it anymore, before our brother died she was in competitions and the like, but his death took its toll on everyone." Her voice remained steady despite the topic of conversation, and talking about it seemed to ease her mind rather than cause her to panic. Whether it was the act of talking or just Samir's presence, it was helpful to get things out in the open.
"But I do enjoy the feeling of being on the ice, just sliding around letting worries go, its nice on a private pond, a little harder to do so when surrounded by other people." Aubrey added as she skated backwards in front of him so she could keep an eye on him.
"If you pull your feet in a little closer you might find your strides improving." she suggested after a moment or two of watching him.

Samir kept jokes and jibes to himself while he listened to her; he seemed to understand that now wasn't really the time to be partaking in things like that. Instead, he watched her, trying to get a good read of her.
He listened intently, just trying to get to know her better. She was like some mystery that he wanted to unravel, like a puzzle whose pieces were all there, but scattered.
She was captivating, and not just because of the way she moved--on or off the ice. The way she spoke, the way she thought, the way she cared...
"I shall have to keep my eyes open for a large, private pond," he mused, pulling his feet closer together. It felt awkward and he struggled just slightly to keep the form. She wasn't talking about her brother and while he wanted to learn more, to console her, to be serious...
This didn't seem like the best place to reveal secrets. He wanted something private, where they could be personal. Where they didn't have to worry about others overhearing or judging.
Instead of bringing up her brother or asking what he really wanted to know, he gave her an inquisitive look. "...Do I look like I'm trying to hurry to the bathroom if I do it like this?"

"They may not be the best place for a beginner, the ice doesn't freeze over smoothly, and there is no Zamboni to maintain it, so you have to watch out for cracks and bumps. It isn't a good place to do any fancy skating, but just gliding around and having fun is okay, as long as you are careful." Aubrey responded as she glided around in simple figure eights, then to show off a little she built up enough speed to do a small single axel jump, she landed it properly and spun around to look over at Samir.
"Never really mastered more than that without falling." she exclaimed, her face flushing from the excitement as she skated up to his side just as he spoke. A grin broke out around her face.
"Maybe just a little, widen your stance just a little, and then try to glide on only one edge of the blade at a time instead of flat on both edges." She came up behind him and placed a corrective hand on his calf, pushing his legs to the proper space she then moved in front of him and stood up, inches away she smiled up at him.
"you are doing well though, maybe you're a natural even if you don't like the cold." she told him encouragingly.

Samir laughed. "Bring my stance in, take it out, oh man. You're going to have to make up your mind, this pressure!" he teased, but he happily obliged, following her instructions to the best of his ability. He never stopped smiling and always did his best to stay close from her; it wasn't just that if he went down he wanted to get up as quickly as possible--she just had such a good effect on him.
"I don't think I'm a natural," he replied, repressing a broader grin when she placed her hands on him. "I must just be getting lucky. But you seem like you know what we're doing, maybe you can give me private lessons sometime? I'd chance a few cracks in the ice not to have all these people around."
...But he could barely see anyone else. His eyes were focused just on her.

"I said a little, you merely over corrected." Aubrey responded with a laugh as she looked up at him. She felt overcome with a desire to run her fingers through his hair and pull him down for a kiss, but she didn't want to risk making him lose balance, and she didn't want to do anything unwelcomed. Her eyes lingered on his lips a moment more before she glided back slightly so she could do a little twirl.
"Well, if you find a private pond I'd be glad to show you a few things." she responded with a smile. "The first being how to spot weak points in the ice so you don't fall through to your death, I doubt that would be a memorable experience you would like to have." Aubrey added as she skated a little further away before coming back to him, she seemed to genuinely enjoy being on the ice and it showed in her care free grin, even after a small child nearly ran her over.
"Even with all these other people... I'm really glad I'm here with you." Aubrey told him softly when she circled closer to him again, she barely even thought about Lopezite now, and vaguely wondered what the night would have been like if he had showed up, and if she would have as much fun as she was having right now.

Samir laughed again. "I'll start looking, then."
He wore a soft expression and while he wasn't as forward as she was on the ice, he seemed to be managing. He wasn't paying attention to anyone else, just her. Sliding on ice with her felt a little like walking on clouds.
He cast one last look at the fountain he'd been waiting to meet Fortuna at, but finding no single women loitering, he drew his gaze away and smiled at her.
He skated the distance between them carefully, catching her hand in his. "Come on, let's see how fast I can go before I fall," he teased, giving her hand a little tug.

Aubrey laughed and nodded, "I look forward to some private ice time with you" she informed him with a wink and smiled when he glided up to her and took her hand.
"I'm pretty sure the goal is to not fall, but whatever makes you happy." Aubrey responded as she started skating next him, gradually increasing the speed to the point where she was in front of him, pulling him along behind her.
"Watch out for small children, they are dangerous projectiles and tripping hazzards." Aubrey warned as she continued to increase the speed.

Samir laughed. "Ah, so the usual things you're supposed to watch out for, yes? Those are all daily hazards--when you have dogs like mine. Have you ever tried to walk somethin that weighs as much--more--than you? And three dogs, all with different ideas on where you should go?"
He continued skating keeping his eyes more on her than on anyone around them.
He moved a bit quicker and didn't fall down so took that as a good sign. "Not my idea of a good walk. Hey--I want to thank you. Tonight would have been a bust if I'd wound up alone. So," he skated closer and grinned. "Thanks, for this."

'I mean, I've ridden horses, they are quite a bit bigger and can have a lot of attitude and think that they are the boss." Aubrey responded as she continued to pull Samir along. when he spoke again Aubrey glanced back at him and smiled.
"Well, I feel the same way, I'm glad I ran into you, this is a lot of fun." she told him giving his hand a little squeeze.
