Bismae puffed steam into the cold air and met Jaxon half-way. She had admired the way he'd growled and pounced. Yes, the Bakeneko-Naga combination was a pleasing one. She had not thought a Hybrid could exist between their peoples. It was pleasing to think it was an option. She intended to be Mother to as many as she could gather. As he hoisted Myden into her hands, she stuffed the Slime under her sweater, to keep him from getting away again. The little blob curled up happily next to her skin, an odd bulge on her ribs as she resettled. "Thankss," she said. "Well, come on. Let'ss go in."

Jaxon couldn't keep himself from quirking a brow at Bismae. They were such a peculiar oddity. He really didn't know if they were just ... in need of a little 'special' care, or if Bismae was just socially awkward. Either way, Jaxon wasn't much fussed and gave a shrug, watching as the naga struggled with slime under their shirt. It looked like Bismae had an odd growth, wriggling around inside them until it suddenly stopped. "Yah, sure." Was all he could say before nodding his head. "Yah, some warmth sounds nice. Probably a good idea we head in for a little while." With that, Jaxon started to slither towards the building. He wasn't going to be told a second time that it was cold outside. He knew bloody well it was freezing, and if he wanted to keep functioning he needed to save his own skin for once and get indoors.
Back at the dorm, it was almost as if Percy could sense company was on the way. The neko was fastidiously preening himself, making sure not a single hair was out of place. Percy took immense pride in his looks and was not one to skimp on his appearance. Every morning he tied a lovely braid in his hair, tightening it with a bow, moisturized and cleansed his skin, did his make-up, and much, much more. Today, however, the cat had been exceptionally particular about his form, having already spent several hours in the bathroom tending to himself.
His ears flicked at the slightest sound, though he kept singing merrily to himself.
---
Bismae kept pace with him as they slithered back to the doors and she crossed into the lobby. She led the way towards the elevator, too tired to take the stairs. As they got in and she pressed the floor number, she began to warm up, and with that began to talk once more. "What kind of tea would Jaed like? Perccy hass many, many kindss. I'm ssure he'll have Jaed'ss favourite. I will sshow you my plantss, and you can curl on my mat. It'ss heated you ssee, heated from insside. It was a gift from Perccy when we learned we were coming to sstudy here. And if Jaed iss sstill cold, we can turn on the heat lamp, and that will be good. Tea and warm." The doors opened and she slithered out onto the floor, turning to look at him for the first time since he'd handed her Myden. "Here we are, almosst home. Come."

Yup. This kid must have been some kind of special alright. Jaxon almost felt an obligation to oblige them out of sympathy. /Almost/.
The expression on Jaxon's face was rather grumpy, his eyes watching Bismae's every move. He had reluctantly followed them to the elevator, gotten in, and rode the machine up to whatever floor Bismae lived on, and then just as reluctantly and sluggishly slid out of the elevator and on to the floor, following along behind the other naga.
He had hoped that if he just played along that maybe their 'normal' side would come out. Or that maybe someone would come along at some point and explain why Bismae was ... the way Bismae was. Bismae, on the other hand, didn't seem to know that there was something very wrong and weird about them. This small fact may have been why Jaxon was still sticking around. Were they just so comfortable with themselves that they didn't care what other people thought, or were they just handicapped? Jaxon wanted to stick around just long enough to figure that out, and depending on the answer, he would either leave or go.
Meanwhile, Percy was just finishing brushing out his arm fur. It had taken him two hours to brush out his leg fur, but look how soft and luscious it looked! It was a necessary evil.

They reached the apartment, and Bismae was not in the least bit alarmed that Jaxon seemed surly. She opened the door and called in. "Perccy, we're back!" She still kept Myden stuff in place until she got to her room. The house rule was, her pets were not aloud to wander freely about the apartment. She slid in, and waved Jaxon inside. Sure enough, the space was opulently appointed, and toasty warm. It was warmer than most people in Below would find comfortable, but with its occupants both from the desert, it felt more like home. "Come, welcome home," Bismae invited to Jaxon, and even graced him with a smile. Her smile wasn't half-bad, the apple cheeks rounding out the otherwise sullen features and making her diamond markings seem to wink.

Jaxon slid in to the apartment-styled dorm room, looking about with well controlled curiosity. He had never been inside a dorm room before, and while it was a new experience, he couldn't say he ever actually had a desire to see what one looked like on the inside. Jaxon was certain, though, that this room in particular was /not/ the standard.
Fine silks were draped as decorations, and ornate objects, including vases and other knick-knacks he wouldn't waste his time on, seemed to be arranged rather artfully in the room. It seemed rather opulent to him. Unnecessarily so. It reminded him of the finery he always imagined the Tennou's family would surround themselves with.
So, then. Who was Percy?
As if sensing Jaxon's questions ( though more likely just hearing Bismae with his acute hearing ), a rather prim, proper and well-powdered figure appeared from the bathroom, flinging his neatly tied braid over his shoulder.
"Bismae, my dear! Where have you been!"
Jaxon shuddered visibly, eyes unblinking. He had just been about to relax in to the heat of the room, remove his scarf and try to warm up a bit, but the sound of the bakeneko's grating voice made Jaxon wish he was outdoors in the bitter cold again.
Percy froze up when he noticed Jaxon, the well practiced smile on his face flickering as it faltered for the briefest of moments. There in his home was an abomination; a hybrid between bakenekos and nagas in the flesh. And Bismae had dragged them out of the gutter and in to his living quarters? He would need to have a talk with her later about this.
"A friend of yours, Bismae?" Percy asked, playing it cool.

"Yess!" Bismae declared brightly, the nearest thing to joy in her countenance and bearing as ever did grace it. "Issn't Jaed perfect, Perccy? Look at thiss beautiful fur, and thiss sstrong tail! Sso healthy and handssome. I will take good care of him, and feed him and water him." Bismae was patting at Jaxon to demonstrate his fine, superior qualities as she spoke, as if Jaxon were at a purebred competition. She seemed -- for once -- entirely oblivious to Percy's mood, and kept prattling on despite the obvious displeasure her master had. "I went to fetch Myden," she patted the lump, knowing better than to release the excitable Slime into the shared quarters. "And Jaed here wass disscarded, abandoned in the cold. Well, I ssaved him, warmed him up with the fine sscarf you gifted to me. And he ssprang right back like a poor wilted flower, he did. And he could have crawled back to the wild then, he could have, but he didn't, no! Jaed helped me find Myden, sso I will keep him, and we can all have hot tea to warm up. What kind would you like, Jaed? Perccy hass all the besst teass. I'll make uss a pot."
It was most-likely the most Bismae had ever spoken in one conversation in her life. She was uncharacteristically excited, and very much pleased to be able to present Percy with such a fine specimen.

Percy smoothed back his already slicked back, finely kept hair and offered a patient smile. He listened to Bismae prattle on, and tried his very best to look as enthralled as she did about her new ... friend. He was far from enthralled, though. He was furious beyond belief. However, the expression and light in Bismae's eyes kept Percy from scolding her. For once the naga seemed delighted -- at least as close to delighted as Bismae could manage. Percy's heartstrings jabbed at his mind guiltily. Perhaps it was best he let this one go ... and just disinfect the place later.
Jaxon, however, wasn't fooled. He knew full well what it meant to be a naga-neko hybrid. Jaxon figured he'd never have to deal with the prejudice outside of the Swirling Sands. He assumed being born to Academy life would spare him from that fate, but his mother had warned him that those who had come from the Swirling Sands might still hold those stuck-up, holier than thou values. Jaxon saw now, reflected in the eyes of the neko before him, that the prejudice he'd always been warned about was alive and kicking.
The hybrid swatted at Bismae's hands, giving a quiet "oye" to discourage her form touching him any further. "I'm not a pet, Greenie. You can't keep me. I already have a home. With siblings and a mom."
Percy had been about to raise the same point, watching as Bismae finished showing off her newest pet to him. All the fine qualities and points they were supposed to possess made Percy want to shudder. Instead, he swallowed back the urge. "Bismae, darling ... what this young lad says is likely true. I'm sure he has a family to get back to. I don't think he should be kept here against his will."

Bismae swayed unsurely between Jaxon and Percy, beginning to be aware of her master's caution yet disbelieving that Jaxon's so-called family would still want him. Otherwise, why discard him in the cold? Slowly, she sank back on her tail a little and pawed once more, less excitedly than before. "Jaed iss not kept againsst hiss will..." She attempted a smile, but found the expression awkward and soon gave it up. "They abandoned you, Jaed. I will never do that. Thiss iss a ssafe placce. Don't you want to sstay?" She turned to look at Percy, quickly calculating what to do. "A thermoss," she decided firmly. "Of hot tea. Jaed musst be presserved for the journey back to hiss....hiss...inferior home..." she trailed off, spiteful and dejected.

"I wasn't abandoned." Jaxon said bluntly. "I just come to the academy for school. Then I go home to my family afterwards. This time I just got stuck in the cold. It was my own fault." Jaxon didn't want to be around this Percy any longer than he needed to be, his eyes narrowed and fixed on the pompous neko. He knew he wasn't welcome either. So why stay?
Bismae's fallen expression made Percy falter slightly. Was she ... upset? Heavens, no! That just wouldn't do. If his companion was unhappy with him, their living arrangements would be quite miserable indeed. "Bismae ... he can stay for tea. And ... visit. Occasionally. With my approval! Does that please you?"
