Shun grunted lowly in response, "If you could call it that."
It was quiet, yes. And that much was appreciated, but he couldn't really say this was truly nice. He wasn't in any better of a position than he had been before. The demons might not have been raging as hard, but they were still present. He could still feel them gnawing away.
It was like having a false sense of security. Only he knew the danger was still around.

"It doesn't solve nothin' ... but at least y'can put it off fer a while." She molded more of the sand to the side of the walls, fortifying it against the water lapping at the sides from the trickle stream. It wasn't pretty, but it worked.
"Kinda weird havin' someone else here."

Shun rolled his shoulders before he began to get back up onto his feet.
"Well, you are in luck. I was about to leave, anyway. It will no longer be weird for you."

"I didn't mean it like that," she said, heading snapping over to him. She really hadn't. She hadn't meant a lot of things.
"Please- c'mon don't go. I'll be quiet again, I swear."

Chel wasn't making much sense to him again.
"Then what did you mean?" he asked, not moving.

"I told you," she said quietly. "I never told no one 'bout this place before." Except for Chris technically, but they'd discovered it together so she never really had the chance to "tell" him. Chris was always an exception to things like this.
She looked back towards her sandcastle, taking pebbles off the ground and decorating the mound with it. "I didn't mean s'bad that yer here, just ... different. I don't want y'to leave or nothin'."

"Your cousin has been here though, has he not?" he asked flatly. She had mentioned him being there with her when they had found this spot. Shun shook his head as he stared down at her, "Why does it matter if I am here or if I am not?"

"My cousin's family- an' he ain't been out here in years." At least, not to her knowledge. If he had it had been on his own which was almost the same as not coming (from her perspective). This wasn't the kind of thing they talked about.
Seeing as Chris was only recently back from the army and they still hadn't resolved most of their conflicts, emotional, deeper conversations weren't really ... a part of their life at the moment. Maybe not ever. Chel would insist to all hell that they were doing fine, but that wasn't really true.
It took her a moment to think about Shun's question. "I dunno. S'always been a secret. Now it's not." She had arranged the pebbles in a nice circle on the mound by this point, starting on a second ring on the inside. "Maybe s'not important t'you ... but it matters t'me."

Shun just raised his brow at Chel. It was entirely possible for the guy to have come out here on his own, especially if Chel did just that. He didn't press that line of questioning, though. Instead, he just tilted his head at her other response. It was special to her. Her little secret.
But he was having trouble understanding its significance. Sure, he guessed it was a nice little spot, but it had little meaning to him beyond that.
"Is there no one else you would want to bring here?"

She shook her head. "Not really." It wasn't that she wanted to bring someone to it, it was just that in the moment she thought Shun had needed somewhere like it and she wanted to share it with him because of that. She wasn't sure how to voice it. She left it vague for his interpretation.
"M'always with people or doin' somethin'. S'the only place I won't drag everyone out to 'cause s'mine."

That was a rather vague answer.
"So why tell me, of all people? Instead of one of your friends, you tell this a*****e about it."
It didn't make any sense.

That ... was why Chel was in the cave in the first place.
"M'sorry 'bout that stuff I said the other day," she said instead, picking up a small stick and tracing lopsided designs into the sand around the castle. "I was just mad an' it wasn't cool."

There was a slow tilt of his head. He still didn't know what the hell she was talking about.
"Why are you apologizing to me? Any s**t you may have said to me while I was drunk off my a** has been long forgotten."
Unless she was talking about what had been said the next morning. Even then, he wasn't really sure what had been said that would have warranted an apology.

"The mornin' after," she told him. "I shoulda had yer back but I just made it yer fault." Get off your ********' a** hadn't been the nicest way to phrase things.
She found herself a bigger stick and looked over at him finally. "Wanna-" Her eyes diverted downwards again. "-put the flag on top?"

Grunting lowly, Shun slowly shook his head at her.
"I expect nothing from you. No one needs to have my back. And quite frankly, it is my fault."
A cursory glance was given to the little sandcastle that Chel had been meticulously crafting in the cave.
"Why would I want to do that?"
