Sucess! Though he didn't have the same power as V'demhe had, Xewai still managed to toss the boy back into the sand and he was proud of it! Of course he managed to take one second too long in relishing in his pride since when he followed Gahiji's pathway again, he found himself tackled to the ground, having still been in the motion of turning from his last assult. The magic user wasn't the heaviest or sturdiest of people in the world so he was knocked over fairly easily and ended up landing with a soft 'oof!'.

The moment he felt Gahiji on top of him, Xewai responded by wrapping his on leg around the other's waist, and using the other to force himself to roll over ontop of his wrestling partner. The flat side of his forearm was used to press against his upper chest, keeping the other's body from getting too close, and his free hand came up to push on the shoulder that was in the direction he was trying to roll.

Not the ideal situation, but he dealt with what he was given.

The sensation of bringing down Xewai was one that came along with excitement and a shot of adrenaline for Gahiji. It was something that pleased him to no end, especially that 'oof' sound that he'd made... but it was a short lived 'victory' if one could even call it that before the magic slinger was attempting to grapple him. As the other did so, moving to try to roll the two of them Gahiji found himself... grumbling a bit. Not because of the position he found himself in as much as he just wasn't quite sure what he should try next.

Duels were a pain in the backside for that reason. He knew the guy, to a degree, and he knew that he wasn't so bad... but because he knew him and because he knew it was a duel he also knew there were rules. He wasn't quite sure what was allowed and what wasn't though... likely no scratching, biting, hair pulling, or anything else that might be considered as being 'savage'. No shots below the belt either but that was a rule that Gahiji used in all fights, even the life or death ones. That much he knew for certain... but what else was off limits? Given that he really didn't know as the other tried to roll with him Gahiji allowed it... and once he was on the ground he did his best to plant his arms, getting what leverage he could, before attempting a headbutt.

He'd been told many, many times by Kinte that 'nobody won when it came to headbutts' but if he could get out of the grapple then it would be worth the headache. Unless of course all that he succeeded in was knocking the both of them stupid... or more stupid on Gahiji's part.

The Roll over came too easily and it certainly made Xewai pause again. It was way too suspicious... Did the other not think this was one of those down and dirty fights? Xewai was all for getting extra rough with one another, especially since he now had the ability to heal them all up once it was over. Maybe he should have made the rules a little more clear, but it was already far too late for that. Especially since the fall had knocked the air out of him already.

As he was on top now, he found himself taking a moment to struggle to sit up, but his own actions had him pinned too close to Gahiji. Close enough that the headbutt made contact right between his eyes.

"GAH!" He cried, quickly sitting up and grabbing Gahiji's shoulders. This wasn't the first time he had been headbutted but it certainly made no difference with how badly that hurt. Before he could let Gahiji recover, he shoved the younger man back into the sand, before steadying himself.

"Haha! Oh crap, that hurts like hell!" Xewai laughed, pushing his weight onto Gahiji's shoulders and scooting up just a little to properly straddle him and keep in him place. Damn, he could still see stars!

The pain that blasted Gahiji as hie head met that of Xewai was an indescribable one... but pain wasn't something that slowed him down. If anything it was sort like an encouragement that came along with another burst of adrenaline and energy. The other was sitting pretty much dead on his stomach at the moment so that he could pin Gahiji's middle and shoulders shoulders, meaning that only his legs were completely free. What if he lifted up his knees and brought them against the man's back? He might be able to cause him to pitch forward, giving Gahiji a chance to escape.

That idea in mind Gahiji moved to do just that, trying to throw the other off of him before the pain from the headbutt subsided into a mild ache instead of one that gave him the strength to keep going. Given the other wasn't raging about dirty fighting he saw no reason to hold back or just let him win... not that Gahiji just let people win. Unless they were boring and refused to put up a fight at least.

Since Xewai refused to move his hands from Gahiji's shoulders, he didn't have the opportunity to use them to soothe the quickly darkening spot right between his eyes. And with that being the case, there was no chance to quicken along the pain to subsiding, so when the other swung his legs forward, Xewai went with them, his face making contact with the sand right beside Gahiji's own head.

In that moment, the young magic user rolled off of the other, scrambling to his feet and backing up a few paces to give him just time to clear the sand from his eyes. With out them, he couldn't quite see where his opponent was, and he was a sitting duck. Crap.

That worked a lot better then he'd thought that it would. In fact he was pretty sure that the guy was just going to end up pitching over forward only to end up crushing him into the sand. Instead it seemed that his last ditch effort attack had caused the guy to eat sand. Not what he was going for but he would definitely take it! Rolling over onto all fours he watched as Xewai got up to his feet, taking a few steps back, before he set to trying to get the sand from his eyes. Now was his chance to 'go in for the kill' as it were. No reason to be nice when the guy had agreed to the duel and he was blinded. In fact now was the very time to attack because the guy was weak and vulnerable.

Gahiji's lips pulled back into a toothy grin as he lunged forward toward the blinded magic slinger, determined now to take him down and pin him this time! If he were able to take him down then he would see about keeping him down, hopefully more successfully then when he'd tried to tackle that snaptrotter.

By the time Xewai managed to open his eyes, another body made contact with his and he was sent right back down into the sand as before, the wind knocked straight out of him. With the new fly up of sand caused by his fall, any work he had done to free his eyes was quickly negated, and he was left on the ground, panting for breath and shaking his head in hopes of getting atleast some of it off of him.

In the mean time, he reached up blindly, trying to find the one who tackled him and force him off like he had done before.

Gahiji made a rather pleased sound as Xewai went down, having half expected the other man to pull out some sort of magical trick or another to save himself. The fact that he didn't though actually gave him a lot of points in Gahiji's mind, not that he would say as much though. Instead he sat up slowly, looking down at the blinded, pinned down Matorian. He starred for a long moment, waiting, watching him as he seemed to flail about at him.

Giving a little shake of his head he reached out, poking him in the chest, just over where his heart lay, and said, "Killed ya." With that he was hopping up to his feet, stretching out all over, before he told Xewai, "You should magic up some more water so you can clean our your eyes, that has to sting."

When his hands didn't seem to make any contact with the other, they gave up, and fell back to lay near his head in favor of using the energy to regain his breath. It seemed like the other was just going to wait this out, and he was right. As soon as he stopped flailing, a finger poked him.

"Damn, I'm dead. Bleeeeh." To emphasis the fact, the stuck out his tongue and let his head go limp to the side, feigning his death. Even after Gahiji got up, he layed there, playing dead for a minute more until his eyes began to water up more, and he couldn't take the stinging any more.

"Yeah, I guess you're right. How's your head?" Xewai asked as he stood up and dusted himself clean before following the sound of the ocean until he could feel it on his toes. Once there, he simply kneeled in the water and splashed it on his face a few times to make sure to the sand was washed away. After a few blinks, he was good as knew, sans a small bruise forming between his eyes.

"Nah, using magic for something like this is a waste. I don't draw magic from myself like other healers do, I get it from the elementals. They'd get all huffy if they saw me using my magic to just do something I can easily take care of on my own. But anyways, that was a good tumble! I think I embarrassed myself by underestimating you! Aaaaand next time we do this, we gotta set some rules. If we're gonna scrap properly, we need to set limits, yah know? Just so we're both clear. I wasn't sure how dirty we were gonna get, or else it would have been alot more tooth and nail!" Xewai wasn't all that much of a dirty fighter, but he wasn't above hair pulling and face punching if the situation called for it. And if Gahiji wanted that kinda fight, he'd be MORE than happy to give it.

Gahiji gave a rather pleased smile as Xewai played along, even going as far as 'dying' when he pronounced him dead. Excellent! His first 'kill' when it came to these battles that he was finding for himself. While Xewai was no Yaotl it had still been a rather enjoyable experience since he'd gotten to fight it out with someone that wasn't just going to lay down and let him win. He might even rank the Xewai fight above the V'demhe fight if only because she went too easy on him despite how strong he could tell she really was.

As the other finally got up from being 'dead' he watched as he went over to rinse his eyes out with the water that was nearby while asking about his head. Gahiji lifted a hand to allow it to hover just above the bruise had there, "Kinte said that nobody ever wins when it comes to headbutts. I think he might be right... but at least I'm not seeing double or anything. That's a win in my books." Better a bruise then a straight up loss that early on in their tussle since that wouldn't have been any fun at all.

As the other mentioned that he didn't 'waste' magic because he got it from the elementals and that they would be upset if he wasted magic. Gahiji could only stare, getting a bit of a confused look. He had no idea what any of that meant but he felt nodding his head in agreement was the best thing to do at the moment... and that was what he did. As the other mentioned 'next time' and he had to admit he was a little surprised. Gahiji tended to always want rematches with those that beat him... so was Xewai the same way? Did he want a rematch because Gahiji had won this one? At the mention of rules next time he gave a slow nod, "It would be good to know what is and isn't allowed." Just so that he could be prepared... even if a real fight only had one rule which was 'stay alive'. Best to keep in mind that duels and fights were very different things.

"Yeah, for real. A bruise is no big deal to you, I'm sure. And the thing about headbutts is that you shouldn't use your forehead. That's where all the pain can be centered around. Super thin skin with lots and lots of nerves but.." He stood up and made his way over to Gahiji, plopping a wet hand right on top of the other's head. "If you use this part, tucking your chin in, then you're be fine. Especially when the person you're fighting is taller than you, pull them down a little was so your legs are bent, tuck your chin in, then force yourself upwards. BOOM! They will hurt like hell and probably bite their tongue too."

After giving Gahiji's hair a fond little ruffle, Xewai went to grab his staff that was discarded in the sand. No worse for wear, thankfully! Just sandy, but it was always Sandy. After all, he DID live on a beach.

"I figure... No biting, no weapons, and... No dying. How's that? I say no biting because I can heal alot of things, but if someone bites off an ear or tears off a pieces of flesh.. Nope, can't fix that."

Gahiji lifted a hand to poke it against his own forehead for a moment, not seeming to mind the pain that came with it all that much, before his pink eyes focused in on Xewai as the other gave him a detailed account of how to best headbutt someone. Gahiji eyes seemed to shine with delight over the information, filing it away for later use. There would definitely be a time when he found himself in need of that information and now he was well aware of exactly how to mess someone up with his head! It was really a great lesson to be learned and to think that a magic user might have such information. It was pretty weird to Gahiji but he was still happy to have said info.

As his ever messy hair was given a ruffle he gave a shake of his head to put all his hair back where it belonged. Once that was done he watched as the other fetched his magical stick. Seemed as though he was back to being a magic slinger as opposed to a hand to hand scrapper, which was a shame.

"No biting... no weapons... no dying..." He repeated, thinking it over, before nodding, "I was pretty sure about the first one so that was why I refrained." He said that as he clicked his teeth together before he gave a laugh at what the other was saying. It seemed there was no biting because things could be torn off, huh? Resting his hands on his hips he said, "Best you don't go after anything with sharp teeth until you're able to stick pieces back on then." If he couldn't patch up those sorts of wounds hen he should avoid predators for sure.

Xewai was simply delighted to see Gahiji listening to the information he was giving. Fighting wasn't ALWAYS about self defense, and he knew that well. After all the battles and missions he had been on, it was so nice to have just a moment of respite where he could just enjoy a scrap like he was a youngling again. There was, of course, a little worry there, that maybe he was just a little bit too encouraging towards the prentice and he might get himself hurt but even if he told him NOT to fight, he wasn't going to listen. It would be better to show and tell him how to fight smart than to preach not fighting at all.

At the teeth snapping, Xewai laughed as well, an image of a tiny Gahiji biting a chunk out of an angry snaptrotter and sending it scurrying away was too funny NOT to imagine.

"Well, I have seen some people sharpen their teeth for that reason. It's really scary when you think about it but... Yeah. Once I can piece things back together, maybe we can go hunting together for a bit ol' beast. You can be the attacker and I'll be the magical hand that does all the healing tidbits or throw ice spears or something. How's that sound?"

Gahiji lifted a hand, scratching it against his head, realizing that he was covered in a lot of sand, wasn't he? All dirty again and itchy, making him want nothing more then to go and rinse himself off in the ocean. He took a couple steps in that direction, but paused as he mentioned having seen people getting their teeth sharpened. He seemed to debate it a moment before he shrugged, "I think I miiiight skip that and stick to piercings. Those I tend to be able to get fairly easily." And without his two guardians being able to stop him thus far. Giving a bit of a grin he stuck his tongue out at Xewai, showing off his favorite piercing as it was the strangest one and the one that had hurt the most to get back compared to the others.

After showing it off he started toward the water once more, "Sounds like that could be interesting. I wonder if Kinte would allow me to hunt a Yaotl if I had magical back up." The last bit was him half musing to himself before he set about splashing about in the water, ridding himself of the clinging sand and ending up soaked down.

Stepping out once more he set to shaking off like a beast might before he glanced at Xewai, "I should probably get going home or else Kinte is gonna come looking for me." He said, then after a moment asked something he normally didn't really care about, "Is your head going to be alright?" Normally he'd just fight and leave but at the moment he felt that he should ask. Especially since the guy was offering to help him fight giant monsters at some point.

"Yeah... I think that might be best too. I bet with sharpened teeth you'd probably painfully bite through your tongue a lot, or pierce your lip or something. Plus... " He paused, looking over the piercings the Prentice had, and grinning at the one in his tongue. "I think they look pretty cool. And you can change them or let them close if you wanted. Teeth, well, you're stuck with them."

Xewai was still sandy himself, but that he didn't mind. He still had his patrol to finish, and if he DID encounter another snaptrotter, he probably was just going to get sandy again. Besides, he had always lived on the beach and a layer of sand just felt right, to the dismay of some of his team mates.

Two fingers were pressed at the site where Gahiji had struck him and he winced ever so slightly. "It's sore but I'll live. I'm alot like you, a bit hard headed, so it's gonna take a lot more than a bump on the head!" For a moment, Xe pondered just what it would be like to have people who wanted to keep you from fighting. To protect you. The thought was immensely brief, since his goals now focused more on protecting others rather than protecting himself. Before he would let Gahiji go, the went over closer to him, gently running his thumb over the other's own sore spot, using the droplets that clung to the other's skin in the same manner as he did when healing him initially. The water quickly worked it's magic, and the small, still forming bruise vanished as if it was never there. A short prayer in thanks was murmured to Ubeli'ae, and Xewai withdrew from the other's proximity, grinning wider than before.

"There, better! Now Kinte won't ask questions about how it got there since it's not there!"
