It was a very optimistic message -- and, as most optimistic messages did, instead of boosting Asher's mood it left him seeming oddly annoyed. A frown turned down the corners of his mouth and he folded arms over his chest, posture going from curious and almost open to something closed off. It was strange, perhaps, how such a gentle and hopeful statement could leave him so...well...pissed off. "Sure." It was an agreement, but it dripped with the exact opposite. He might as well have said bullshit. For a moment, it seemed like he was going to add more on that tone, but opted to change the subject instead. "So what have you actually made so far?"

Briiva gave Asher a thoughtful look, curious about whether he was just being contrarian or if he really did have a general negative view on everything. She made a mental note to observe him in the future to gather more information, and maybe eventually come to a conclusion, both through observation and direct communication. She had simply never met anyone who was as consistently depressing as the man in front of her, and Briiva couldn't help but be fascinated with him. "I've made rockets of course, at least on a small scale." She smiled cordially, just to see if her pleasantness would drive him further into his regained stupor. "Most of my work I do on my laptop however, with 3D printing advancing as it has, I can pretty much fabricate anything I can model. Of course, some of my current designs require things that can be a little difficult to get a hold of. Uranium, for instance. What about you, what did you do before being swept up in the glamorous life of being dumped into swampland's and trying not to die in them?"

"Bike messenger." It was immediate, unhesitant -- and, despite all his comments about how useless many of them were, it was also completely unashamed. Asher maybe even had liked his job, genuinely enjoyed it, in a way that cut all his cynicism to the bone. Perhaps his negative attitude was less a pervasive one, and more a reactive one. "Mostly zipping around Manhattan, trying not to get sideswiped into fire hydrants or get the s**t beaten out of me and all my cash stolen." He swiped at his hair, dragging curls away from the corner of his mouth. His tone was casual but -- was that norma for a bike messenger? Asher shrugged, once. "It was pretty free. Big place, not like, you know, the school grounds we've got here..."

Briiva listened, fascinated by Asher's sudden indulgence into his profession. "So, when you say bike, are we talking about a bicycle or a motorcycle? Both sound pretty crazy to be doing in Manhattan, but I guess once you get used to that kind of life, things around here are downright dull." Of course, even as Briiva was talking, the idea of a bike messenger intrigued her, or more the potential for improving travel for them intrigued her. "So, what kind of things did you deliver? Or was it more an I don't know what in the package, that's not my job type things?"

"Yeah, that." He flashed her a smile, which surprised and then annoyed him. He hadn't meant to get friendly. All at once, Asher seemed to remember his toe, rubbing at it gently while he considered his his answer. "It was just whatever was on the docket. I worked for a company, bike messenger, which was rough in the winter but generally pretty okay." He shrugged once, briefly, side-eying Briiva. "Sometimes, though, yeah. I took some side jobs. Had some long term side clients. All that."

Briiva listened carefully, giving Arthur an idle pat as she did. "It sounds like it was pretty exciting. Plus, I bet you didn't have to worry about exercising." Briiva made a note how Asher reigned himself in almost immediately after slipping up with his smile. Her own smile came off forced as the behavior reminded Briiva of the act she maintained. One brief moment of uncertainty, replaced reflexively with a more believable upward curl of her lips.

"Uh huh." And apparently the wall had gone back up fully. Asher considered her for another moment -- then her drawing, halfway wishing he could ask her more about it, or maybe get her to make him a fancy new knife -- and then decided he was done. He put his foot down testingly, and with an exaggerated kind of limp, started away from her. He wanted something to eat. "A bit harder now, though, isn't it?" Damaged as he was.

"I'm sure you'll use the injury to your advantage!" Briiva stuck her tongue out as Asher turned to leave before returning her attention to her drawings. She considered the bow designs, doing her best to recollect the pulley systems she had seen in typical compound bows. She gave Asher one last curious stare before balling up her last design so that she could scratch from scratch on a fresh page.
