He picked up the pace nonetheless, catching the movement as he drew near. This time, he didn't say anything; then again, his continuing presence was probably loud enough on its own.

He briefly forced his eyes closed in simultaneous impatience and resignation. "Just...let me, Chel."
He pulled out the chocolate box as a peace offering.

She looked down at the chocolate box and a twitch crossed her face. The twitch turn into a snort and she found herself smacking him across the chest.
"What kind of a*****e fixes things with chocolate?" The snort turned into a snicker. "Are you stupid?"

"I don't really like chocolate anyway," he said mildly and shrugged. A side effect of the resignation and numbness combined.

Chel's hands found their way to his wrists and gripped them, perhaps a little too hard. Her eyes found the ground.
"What if they got him too? Or Connor or-"

His wrists were slender and bony; her grip would have been unpleasant even without the white knuckle look.
"Shun's police," he reminded her. "He can lift s**t with his mind. He'll be okay. Connor, too."
Assuming more s**t didn't happen after Jack saw him and Temperance stave off Melony's death.

"Yeah, well. It's just logical." It was how Jack handled things, by rationalizing.
He waited a moment before nudging her palm with the case. (It seemed a safer action than outright touch.) "I'm still kind of processing it myself."

Chel pushed the box away with one hand and put the pad of her finger to her eye to carefully wipe them. She still managed to smudge some of her makeup regardless.
