Heras Box

Mnyiri tried to write as fast as Dem spoke. It was hard, especially since she kept wanting to interrupt the woman and ask more questions. However, she valiantly kept her mouth shut for the time being. So it was an attraction that had begun in her younger years? Interesting, very interesting. This earthling attraction...that pull...and then it had solidified upon meeting this male named Virain. "Fascinating." Mnyiri flipped to a new page in her book and dipped her quill once more.

"After your bonding had begun you asked Aisha for her blessing and she gave you two blooms, yes?" And now this is where her questions for Masika began. "What has it been like for you, growing up? Have the earthlings in Matori treated you like one of their own or has there been friction? Beyond your physical traits, have you noticed anything to separate you from others in your age group? Increased speed, better hearing; things like that?"

Masika listened to her mother's tale, tilting her head slightly when she heard of this "Teiluj" person. It was the first time that name was mentioned. At least to her. The girl's attention went between her mother and the stranger until it was time that the questions were directed at her. "Hm? Well.. I am different but they aren't mean to me if that's what you meant." Masika wasn't sure what the lady wanted as far as that question.

The others were a little easier to answer. "I hear better than most matorians. Muma says it's the antennae. But nothing else really sets me apart from the others.. I don't think."

Dem watched Mnyiri write everything down but then nodded her head at the last question that would be hers. "Yes, Aisha blessed us with two blooms. The flowers were differently colored as well. Almost blue at the tips and it faded to purple and finally the normal pink. The leaves were also like this." Yes, she remembered what the flowers her daughters came in were like.

Turning her head to her child she listened to the reply she gave and smiled at her softly. Dem didn't want her daughter to feel uncomfortable so she made sure to show support.

Mnyiri eagerly wrote down the descriptions of the lotus blossom. They sounded so different from those that she was used to and it seemed as if even the blossoms had taken traits from Virain's culture. How strange! Was this the same for all hybrid blossoms born from Aisha? Had her own been so strange?

"Yes, the antennae help, but it's not just that. It's your ears; the shape itself helps you to hear better from longer distances as opposed to the matorians around you. The same goes for shifters and the sauti nomads. The only rivals we have for that would be the icelings and leaflings."

Mnyiri felt Mvua shifted into a sitting stance at her side. Evidently the radaku had grown weary of standing, especially with the saddle bags he carried and for that she couldn't blame him. "Alright, let me change things a little; What do you plan to be when you grow up, Masika? Will you follow an alkidike path or the earthling way? And if alkidike, will you dread your hair?"

She hadn't thought of that. Masika reached up to her ears and toyed with them somewhat. They were like her mothers, long and pointed. So did that mean that her sister didn't have good hearing like her? "So since Galene has ears like the water tribe she can't hear as well?" The hybrid looked toward her mother to get confirmation. Of course she knew that she and her twin were different from one another, but she didn't think it went beyond looks.

The different direction of the questions brought her attention back to Mnyiri. "Oh, uhm.. No dreads for me. I like my hair the way it is. Muma brushes it every night for me." Of course she knew that Alks wore their hair that way and it worried her that her mother would think she was ignoring her Alkidike side. "I'm going to be a mystic when I'm older. I have magic like my Dadae does. Muma tried to teach me to use a blade but.. I'm not very good." Her cheeks turned a charming purple shade that indicated she was blushing.

V'demhe gave a gentle nod of her head. "Yes, water bug, you and your sister are very different. Not just in looks." Their personalities were different as well. However, Galene was almost the exact opposite of Masika.

The mention of which path her daughter would take made her give the other woman a look. "Her talents take after her father." It was almost as if she was daring Mnyiri to say something bad about Masika's choice.

If you need this for either of their growings this week, let me know, and I'll tag ultra fast!

[8/10]

"Not as well as you can, no. You can hear farther distances."
Mnyiri reached up to tap her own ear. Obviously this one didn't have to worry about the poor eyesight of her people should the antennae somehow find themselves 'missing', which made it all the more curious for Mnyiri to look at.

Everything about today was one curious ride.

"A mystic, hmm? I'm unfamiliar with that; would you mind giving me some more details? Is it just a magic user, or is that a more specific title?" She scribbled some more notes on the page before looking up, head still tilted down, through her bangs at the girl's mother. "Are you fearful that I'm going to attack her for it?" Mnyiri didn't want to dodge around it; it was obvious she was still being judged. Not that she blamed her, what with a stranger talking to her child, but still..."I would say I think your daughter has very cute hair, and a charm about her if I didn't think it would rotate back to 'don't steal my daughter and mate with her'. Is there anything I can do to earn your trust, save leaving and never coming back?"

Masika thought about that. She could hear farther distances? Huh, she'd have to test that out next time she played with Galene.

When the woman asked her about the title of mystic she thought it over for a bit. "Well.. I think in the early stages it's just a magic user. I can specialize my talents later. But I use runestones rather than the beads." She shrugged her shoulders slightly as she explained. She didn't know much about it because she had no teacher currently. And since her mother wasn't talented with magic she couldn't ask her for help.

Then she watched as her mother and the woman seemed to have a tense moment. She couldn't understand why her mother was being so stand-offish.

"I would hope that you wouldn't." Came her flat out reply. V'demhe wasn't entirely sure what to think about the whole situation honestly.

"Forgive me for thinking that way but I have seen more than one hybrid that has shown interest in my daughter simply because she is rare." And Dem wasn't at all pleased that her child was looked at as a collectible. Still she rolled her shoulders a bit and settled some. "You don't need my trust right now, but I can say I will be more at ease from now on."

Runes? Mnyiri had never seen them, but she made a note of it. Surely someday in the future she would meet another earthling who used them, and she could ask more detailed questions later.

She tapped the end of her quill against her sketch book. "Alright, now I'm curious - were you always as protective of her when she was smaller? Or has this gruffer exterior come on after her puberty set in? I only ask because yes, I can see her exotic looks attracting looks, both unsavory and not, which would make me protective of her and I've only just met your daughter. Do you worry over what type of partner she'll choose?"

Mnyiri slipped a little look to Masika before letting out a softer smile. "Or may have already chosen."

She chuckled when Mnyiri asked about the mate thing. Though she shook her head when she got a soft look. Her hands came up and she waved them in the air innocently. "Nope, no mate yet." Better to get that out there now before things went badly. Though she was amused and couldn't help but to giggle.

She shook her head slightly. "I have always been this way. My daughters are precious to me and yes, I worry about the mate that they would choose." What mother wouldn't?

Dem took a deep breath. "I wouldn't want someone to simply take advantage of them." Especially Masika. She was the gentle one in the pair of daughters she was gifted by Aisha. "I also worry about my adopted hybrid son and who he will end up with. Likewise for the hybrid daughter I adopted."

Mnyiri closed her sketchbook and placed it underneath her arm. Dramatically, she placed her hands on her hips and passed a mock serious, obviously humorous, look to Masika. "The longer the wait the better, young lady. Make sure you find the right one, and put them through the ringer. That way you'll know for sure." Sound advice, coming from a single woman. She'd thought about dating off and on, but Mnyiri just wasn't the type to focus for that long. "You're lucky; you've got a mom to look out for you and scare off all the baddies."

Mnyiri whistled, and widened her eyes, "So many kids! You must really like being a mom. Makes a little envious, actually; I was an only child growing up and I would have killed to have that many siblings so close at hand. I mean, I have a sister, but she ran away before I was born so I was basically on my own."

Her eyes caught the position of the sun in the sky and seeing it had Mnyiri clucking her tongue. "I think it's time for us to head out. We've taken up enough of your day as it is, though I am very grateful that you let me speak with you both."

Seeing the look she got from Mnyiri made her giggle intensify. Of course she was going to wait. Masika wanted that special love like what her mother had. So she nodded her head with a grin. "Yeah, Muma is great." And she meant that. Her mother always protected her and her collection of siblings.

When the woman said that she should be on her way Masika looked at her mother then back and stepped forward a few steps. "You can stop by again if you'd like. Maybe you can see my sister sometime." Since there was no harm done she didn't see the problem.

It was her turn to smile now. V'demhe was amused by the mock speech that was given to her daughter. Still when the hybrid woman looked at her with wide eyes she chuckled. "Yes, I love being a mother." It had been something that she had taken to quite well.

At the mention of envy she tilted her head but said nothing. There was nothing she could do to change what was. Dem nodded as the woman said she should be on her way and when her child invited her to come by she paused for a moment before lifting her eyes to look at Mnyiri. "Of course. Though your beast will need to learn manners before it will be allowed in the house."
