Beth wasn't entirely sure where she was expected to get the shelves--did Amazon even deliver to a pocket dimension? She kind of hoped that Briiva would offer to provide the lumber and the know-how. Before she had figured out how to approach the topic, Briiva had moved onto something more sober--even if the woman herself was not.

"Parties? Where were those orientation week? I got thrown straight into the bird fighting! You'll have to let me know when one's in the works." If anything, maybe she would plan one. She knew at least one Demeter Chosen, and an Aphrodite Chosen would certainly be a natural if paired with one of Dionysus in the search for entertainment. Now if only she knew one of the latter....

Beth was pulled from her own musings by Briiva's quiet exhortation to stay alive. She stared into her cup, an awkward half-smile twisting her lips. It was always hard for Beth to confront the heartfelt when it centered on her. Too long dissecting words and statements for ulterior meaning made accepting the sincerity of others at face value difficult. It had forced her to deflect Brian's compliments and reassurances the evening before. But Briiva had always seemed so open and honest--to a fault. And she supposed one might have their own reason to beg her not to die without bringing affection into it. She tried to interject humor into the moment, saying, "Shouldn't I be more worried about you? I don't think you've done a single thing in your life cautiously." She tried to offer a smile, but failed just as much as Briiva at making eye contact, focusing on the rim of her cup as she drained it and then filled it back up from the bottle.

Briiva tapped her cup with her fingers thoughtfully, chewing on her lip. When she had returned to the campus, her fingers had been blistered from drawing back the string of her bow, and they were still healing over. The injury was minor, so Briiva hadn't even bothered mentioning it when her back was being tended to.

Hearing Beth voice concern for her felt odd, in a way. Briiva was never one for making what she would consider close friends. At least, none that she had trusted enough to show her own vulnerabilities too. She always had taken pride in the fact that she was her groups source of boundless optimism, always the shoulder to lean on. She had never let anyone close enough to offer anything similar. The more she thought about it, the more Briiva understood that Beth was actually telling the truth, whether she knew it or not. Briiva didn't throw caution to the wind, never really thought of her needs when faced with something like the Alps. And realizing that about herself made her smile, at least a little.

"I guess I don't. Still, whatever my fate is, I'm going to be facing it head on. Seeing you in that fight, I don't think you're quite there yet, so you dyin' would be like a flower getting pulled out of the ground before it blooms. Plus you have a lot of people who would miss ya." Briiva drowned the rest of her glass; she wasn't sure she wanted to remember anything she had said to Beth here.

Beth wasn't sure how to respond to the last item. She merely blushed--was that how she was seen? As a flower, good for nothing except a decaying decoration? Part of her was flushed with triumph. It was a difficult image to cultivate. But another part knew that they had been Chosen for a reason, and though she was not sure what that reason was, she could tell that passive beauty was not a luxury they could afford.

So she smiled at Briiva and instead tackled the first part of her statements. "Well, I think you're very brave. So you have that, at least." She laughed good-naturedly, and finished both cup and food. "Thank you for the food. I'm always happy when someone feeds me, so if you any culinary experiments," she winked and pointed at herself, "hit me up."

Briiva gave Beth a suspicious look, but made no mention of it. The way she had bounced back into a happy smile reminded Briiva all too much of herself. She didn't mention it though; it was all too easy to make assumptions about other people, and it was a habit Briiva was trying her best not to get into.

"Hah, thanks. I wouldn't really call it bravery, but if that's what floats your boat." Briiva stood up, catching herself on the bed briefly as she wobbled. "I most certainly will. I love to cook, mostly because I love good tasting food." She giggled, steadying herself with anything she could grab a hold of while making her way to the door.

Beth was almost immediately at Briiva's side, supporting the taller and certainly more slender woman. With the ease and confidence of someone who had to guide and half-carry a drunken companion, Beth helped her to the door. "You certainly make up for it in the liquid variety," she said, half amused and half exasperated. "Well, Briiva, let's get you back to your room. I don't need you puking on my clothes."

She had done this a hundred times or more with her own boozy mother, and it was these skills that allowed her to brush off any stares or questions they met along the way with a charming smile and wave. Soon, Beth had deposited her friend back amongst the chaos and industry of her home dorm, tucking her in after gently making space on the bed. She had to push aside some metal bits and more than a few dubiously unlabeled jugs of liquid to do so, but as she surveyed her work, she nodded to herself in satisfaction. Knowing better than to trust her friend's already filled containers, she rinsed out a bottle and poured water from the tap in it, finally setting it on the floor by Briiva's listless fingers.

"Thanks for the food and the company, sweetheart." She whispered, gently stroking her hair before patting her and leaving her half-passed out in her own bed.
