"And lose all of the bonus points you get with us American girls when you drawl all British and cute? For shame, Rob."

The owner of the teasing voice stepped from the growing shadows around the bonfire and Misha grinned at the gathered group. The fact that she only really recognized a few of them gave her no pause; over the years, some of her best parties were ones she had almost-crashed. Lifting her free hand in a little wave, she included everyone, known and unknown, in a warm greeting. "Hi, there. I hope you have room for one more."

As if to encourage their decision in the right direction, Misha lifted a large paper bag and gave it a little shake. No sound emanated from inside but she seemed even more pleased at the attention it drew. "I bring cookies. Lots and lots of cookies."

Sylvia had slept for almost a full day when they’d come back. It was glorious and lovely and just what she’d needed – and she still didn’t want to get out of bed when she woke up. She wasn’t sure if it was sheer exhaustion or just wanting to avoid the reality she now had to face, the reality in which she had needed to fight a giant metal bird, and could be called upon at any moment to do so again. And she thought life was intimidating before.

She had eventually managed to get up. She’d done a small workout, though she was still so sore that it wasn’t terribly efficient and she didn’t push herself to do anything truly substantial. She tried reading to take her mind off of things, browsed the internet, even toyed a bit with reorganizing some of her room… Ultimately nothing was quite satisfying. She was feeling unsettled, sort of empty, and overall uncomfortable.

So Sylvia finally decided to go for a walk, because maybe that would ease her somehow. She was so tired, but maybe she just needed to get some fresh air, some better scenery, some space to evaluate her new position. It had at least somewhat helped the last time she’d gone on a walk along the beach. Partway through her walk, something caught her eye off on the horizon. Was that a bonfire? It wasn’t the Hearth, and not nearly as big, but down on a rockier side of the shore she did see large flames. And it looked like there was a smallish crowd around it. She would never have expected that, though she wasn’t sure why.

She paused for only a moment before taking a steady stance and nodding to herself. She directed her steps and made a direct course to join the gathering. Why not? Maybe some human distraction was what she needed. Maybe they would have booze; while she usually wasn’t an advocate for alcohol solving problems, she had a feeling it might take some of the edge off. It was worth a shot, at least.

As she approached the edge of the group, she scanned the setting and was quite pleased to see an assortment of pillows and blankets for borrowing, and some coolers off to one side. There was plenty of aromatic food set up that she was fairly certain she would eventually investigate further. To start, she wanted to make sure that she wasn’t interrupting anything.

Sylvia approached the edge of the group a bit closer and spoke in a general sort of sense: “Is this an open gathering, or will I be crashing the party by trying to join?”

Rob recognized the teaser and grinned at her. "Hey, Misha, hallo." He was somewhat surprised she remembered him, and even more surprised he remembered her -- he didn't remember much of that night by Hestia's flames, talking and flirting (at least he thought it was flirting). She was a fairly memorable girl, he observed as she entered the circle of firelight, so maybe it wasn't as much of a stretch to have remembered her. "Cookies, you say? Mmmm. I think there's room for one more," he smirked at her with that same lopsided flirty smile he'd given her the other night.

Another girl showed up then, one he thought he recognized from the hotel, although he couldn't be completely sure -- so much of that adventure was becoming a blur. "Welcome," he greeted as he continued to play through the intro to Hotel California on infinite loop. "Can't presume to speak for Mal, there," and he nodded at the Zeus Chosen who'd organized the impromptu gathering, "but if they'll accept the likes of me then it's open to all." He tilted his chin at a nearby cushion. "Have a seat, love, and a beer. What's your name? I'm Rob."

Mathilda listened to the talk around her, choosing to listen and keeping silent. She hummed every now and then, but kept observing. When Misha arrived, and subsequently, cookies, Mathilda decided that she was done being observant for now and jumped back in.

"Misha! Oh! Cookies!" She plucked on up, then turned to the newcomer.

"Hello! I cannot recall if we have met, but I'm Mathilda! Welcome!"

A man who she was sure she recognized answered her first, simultaneously playing through ‘Hotel California’ on his guitar, which seemed fairly impressive to someone who couldn’t play any instruments. She gave a lopsided smile at his response and accepted his invitation by moving towards the cushion he indicated. “Thanks. I’m Sylvia – I think we carried a couch together at some point.” She gave an amused smile, then a nod, “Nice to officially meet you.”

Feet tucked neatly below her, Sylvia settled back into her cushion. Another voice had her turning. She didn’t recognize the blonde as someone she’d interacted with closely, but she did look vaguely familiar. “I may have seen you around, but I don’t believe we ever introduced ourselves. Nice to meet you, Mathilda; I’m Sylvia.” She offered a smile, then turned to scan the circle and find the coolers.

She had to shuffle a bit to retrieve a beer, but it was worth it when she popped it open and settled back onto her cushion again to take a sip. With warmth radiating from the fire and the somewhat comforting sounds of guitar and conversation, Sylvia took a deep breath and thought to herself what a nice situation she’d run into. This would be a good way to pass the evening. She would eventually investigate food, but for the moment she was content to watch and listen to those around her and settle into the situation.

Misha laughed as Mathilda snatched a cookie and shared the sideways grin with both Rob and Sylvia. Then she reached back into the bag, drew out another cookie, and slipped it into Mathilda's hand. "Might as well take two. Why just one when you can have more?" she teased.

She dusted crumbs from her fingers off on her jeans and then gave a cute little wave to Sylvia. "Hi and welcome! I'm Misha and I think I've seen you around. Not just, you know, doing the bird thing. I think..." She cocked her head to one side, thinking, and then lit up. "Aha. My dorm. You're Aphrodite Chosen. My dear, we must talk."

With that announcement, Misha giggled again and padded over to dip a curtsy in front of Mal. "Requesting permission to join the festivities, sir." Her face strained to be serious but her eyes sparkled with more laughter.

Sylvia smiled at Misha’s wave, and offered a wave back. She mimicked Misha’s angled head as the other woman thought, trying to place if she had seen Misha beyond the brief time she remembered they’d been together in the Alps. It seemed likely – she easily could have glimpsed her during the tour, or at any of the dinners, or just around the Prytaneum in general. In fact, it was very likely that she had.

But Misha finally placed it. Sylvia squinted a bit, glancing off to the side as she thought about it, and then nodded. “Aah, I’m sure you’re right.” She paused and straightened her head again, pulling back slightly. “What is it we have to talk about?” She was a little worried she’d somehow drawn negative attention to herself. She was pretty quiet and unassuming in general, she couldn’t imagine what she might have done to require a talking-to, but she couldn’t think of another reason this person might want to talk to her. Although, they did share a patron goddess – perhaps the woman just wanted to talk to another of Aphrodite’s chosen…

She waited in suspense as the other departed to ask someone (it must have been Mal) for permission to join the party. Should she have done that? Well, it was a little late to worry about that now. She took another sip of beer and hoped that she wouldn’t get kicked out for taking Rob’s invitation and not following through to ask the man who’d apparently started the whole night.
