Slowly, still a little warily, Nathaniel slid off of the bench and knelt beside the turtles. He stretched out a hand towards them, wondering what sort of interview this actually was, and gingerly let his fingers drift along the back shell of one of them.
It was slightly fascinating.
"Oh," said Nathaniel, his eyes tracing the lines of the animal's shell. "Well, tropical flowering hibiscus are good, and they're usually very pretty to look at. Rose blossoms are also good, and they smell nice, which is always a bonus. Oh, and geraniums," he added, tapping his chin thoughtfully with his free hand. "Those are good too."

"Oh! Hibiscus-" Wendy nodded, flipping some hair from her face, "Yeah I think I heard of that. They eat those." The tortoises were placed, walking slow, looking at him slow, reaching to chomp on things pretty slowly. They just sort meandered around, never getting far, but were a bit therapeutic in their slow motion. "So, are you particularly interested in radio?" The topic swap was pretty abrupt, but he tone was no less genial. "Or you just looking for a job?"

Nathaniel was rapidly becoming enamoured with the turtles, his expression softening the longer he looked at them. They were such simple creatures, and yet he'd always had a love of all animals, even if he'd never been around many of them before.
Wendy's question dragged him back to reality.
Right. Job interview.
"Oh, yes ma'am," said Nathaniel, glancing back at her. "I listen to the radio sometimes when I'm at home." Because he didn't have cable or a TV or anything. "But to be honest with you, I do really badly need a job first and foremost."

"Desperation," She chuckled, "I can dig it. The need for money can keep people in a job- even if it's one they hate." Somehow it didn't sound like a great reason but Wendy didn't seem to judge. "I went to Rider-Waite too. My brother and I," Her brother, twin brother, also worked at the radio station. His dulcet tones drifted through the airwaves of the late show. "So I get it." She picked a resume from his things without really asking and glanced it over. "What's your major?"

He was glad that she hadn't been put off by his desperate need for money, though Nathaniel himself was somewhat embarrassed by it. He gave a nod at Wendy, fingers smoothing over the shell of one of the turtles still, trying not to get too interested in them instead of the purpose of the interview.
"I'm a mathematics major - Algebra," said Nathaniel. "And I'm a history minor, though I was thinking I might switch to something with agriculture, maybe."
