Terasu turned to glance at Xewai, starring at him for a long, drawn out more before he turned back to the flame that he was working on keeping alive. He was a complete idiot, wasn't he? Actually trying to be friendly with him even though Terasu wasn't trying even in the least bit to be nice to him. Giving a little grumbling sound he finally said, "Okay." He didn't get it, but whatever... if trying to be friendly with him made him happy then he could have at. Glancing between the young man and his teacher Terasu found himself feeling that Xewai was a bit like Tera, wasn't he? A foolish idiot that wanted to learn magic to help one another... something that Terasu wasn't able to do himself since he couldn't use those powers himself. He wondered if he should possibly train with Tera if that were the case? Did he trust this kid enough to hang out with Tera? He really couldn't say but he didn't really seem like any sort of threat... he was stupid to be a threat or at least that was what he felt. Azania gave a thoughtful sound before she said, "Wanting to learn such powers so that you can protect others is a noble cause, but please remember that it's not easy. One has to be a lot of time and effort into training with magic and if you learn any of the more dangerous elements you need to keep in mind that you have to be careful with them. The last thing you want is for them to go out of control." Something she said as she glanced at Terasu, getting only a grunt in response from him.

"Ma'am... I want to think that I know what hard work is... It's staying up late nights preparing for a mission that you might not come back from. It's exploring and mapping and trying your best to guarantee that your work isn't the cause of a tragedy. It's also knowing your limitations, and knowing when you should push past them for not only your own benefit, but for the benefit of others!" On the last thought, his voice got just a little louder, as the sadness and worry he felt before was quickly drowned out by the excitement and enthusiasm he was beginning to feel. It wasn't like him to be upset for long, especially when subjects changed that lit a fire in his belly.
"There are alot of things in life that aren't easy. And just like that, there are alot of things in life worth protecting. If my time and effort can get put into that, then why would I hesitate at all in trying?" From what he understood, everyone had some sort of deep down connection that allowed them to use magic, there was an even greater pull towards it than Xewai had felt than anything else before, except perhaps the sea herself. Maybe he really didn't have any ability to use it for anything more than parlor tricks, but there was this dire need to try. He wanted to try. He HAD to try.
"I want to learn how to be someone's shield. Maybe not their sword, since, you know, stabby stabbing things isn't quite my cup of tea, but IF I can take the time to learn and grow, and if you are willing to help me see if I even have a drop in the ocean of a chance to learn, then I'm MORE than willing to give it all I got!"

After listening to the young man's impassioned speech Azania pushed up to her feet, walking away from the table, but not before saying, "Stay here and wait a moment." She shuffled around, gathering a few things together, before she returned once more. Placed before Xewai one after the other. Three simple item for him to observe before she sat down in her seat again, glancing toward Terasu who was still glaring at the flame he was working with, then back again. The three items before Xewai was a small candle, a glass with some water in it, and a rock. She motioned to them with one hand and said, "A test, if you will. To see if you have any magical abilities I will ask that you light the candle, either lift the water out of the glass or freeze it, or get the rock to move. If you can get any of the elements to heed your call then that will tell us that you have the raw abilities that are needed to learn magic. From there we will see about getting you some magical tomes to read. Tera and Su have been using some of the more basic ones but are nearly where they have to be to graduate to more intricate, higher level magic meaning that they can give those books over to you." That was something that got Terasu's attention, his control wavering a bit which made the flame in his grasp flare up before sputtering out. He gave a grumbling curse, about to try to light it anew when Azania told him to leave it and pour the tea. Giving a nod he did so, watching Xewai closely. He was given the test to see what powers he had, something that Tera had done before... something Terasu refused to bother with since he knew that he could only use a limited amount of spells himself. He wasn't about to embarrass himself by failing so simple a test for that reason. "If he can do it I will see about getting the books for him... but be sure to explain it all again to Tera later." He muttered as he sat back down, pulling his cup closer to himself before he set to blowing on the tea to cool it down to the temperature he liked.

If Azania had not assured him she would return, Xewai would have panicked, just a little bit. He was not prepared to be alone with Terasu again, not unless there was some sort of common ground between them. Maybe magic could be it. Once she returned, the young waterling watched as she placed the items before him and stared at them hard, listening to her. He heard of the books, and he heard of maybe having to explain it to Tera later, but this... No, he wasn't sure how to handle this.
... What? How was he supposed to move anything like she asked? He had no previous experience with magic! There wasn't a trick or something to it? It was really just a 'move this or don't to learn if he could. What a harsh way to begin! But for all the items placed before him, it was very obvious which one called out to him naturally. The small cup of water just made him think of the sea and all of Mother Ubeli'ae's blessings. Yes, with her blessing, he could do this, he knew he could!
"Alright, I'll try!"
Xewai closed his eyes, concentrating on the air about the water. There was air in the water, that's how fish breathed. That's how the ocean was able to provide life, how Ubeli'ae was able to bless all of the sea creatures. And just as her waves crashed onto the shore with it's sea foam, so too would Xewai. Atleast, that's he thought of it, anyway. Maybe not as massive but he could move it, maybe he could put air into the water. He could see it in his mind, the bubbles forming in the base of the cup, just a few, but then it started to rumble, and he bit his lip.
No, the bubbles should float up gently, just as the breath of a fish did. That's what he was. Just a fish, a small little guppy. it was easy to imagine it, easy to believe it to be true. His lips pressed together and he blew gently, just as if he was blowing steam off a cup of tea. Whether or not it actually helped, he didn't know, but the prentice had to try. That's what spoke to him, after all.
After a few moments, Xewai opened his eyes and simply beamed at what he saw.
Bubbles seemed to have floated up from the cup, small, but numerous, just like a few blown by a fish swimming through the sea. They were all over, floating down gently until they popped upon contact with a surface. A few even landed in his cup of tea, floating for a moment in the warm liquid before vanishing.
"That was me! That was me, wasn't it? I made the bubbles?"

Kapoodles Shall we see to wrapping this one? Azania watched closely as she watched the young man as he took on the challenge that she'd given to him. The fact that he was actually willing to make the attempt was a good thing, it meant that he was already taking the correct first step... well, provided of course that he had the gift of course. His magic decided to show itself in a manner that was a lot more sedate then Su's had, something that she liked to work with from time to time. Giving a smile she said, "An interesting manipulation of air magic. I like it, Xewai." Glancing at Su she said, "It seems that Tera found someone interesting. Would you mind grabbing the beginners books for him, Su?" As her eyes went back to Xewai she said, "You can borrow the books if you like, but I ask that you take good care of them. They were actually the very first magic books that I ever used myself back when I was your age." Su glanced at Xewai before he nodded, pushing up to his feet, and moved to fetch the books that he was asked to get. If he handed them off it meant that Tera would be getting more powerful magic... and if he was allowed to get better, more powerful magic then that meant that Su would as well. That thought was more then enough to get him to fetch the books, setting the stack of them down in front of Xewai before he said, "Good luck." Before he settled down to finish his tea. Azania glanced at Su for a moment, then back again before she said, "Study hard and you might be able to get yourself the title of mage in time, Xewai."

Xewai only half listened to Azania as she said something about books, too fascinated with the bubbles. In an attempt to keep them going, he blew at the water, though it seemed to fizzle out and return to stillness.
"Aww..." The thought that magic was something he'd be able to do had never crossed his mind. Not until Tera had come into his life and healed him that day. How much wider the world seemed now! There was so much more he could do, Xewai knew it!
Picking up his still warm cup of tea, Xewai watched as Tera shuffled off, only to return with a set of books for him, and a few words. Was it a positive response from Su? Sure, it was just a simple good luck, but it... He meant it, right? The young Matorian could not help but grin widely at that, hiding it slightly behind his tea cup.
"Thank you! I'll treat them as if they were as fragile as a tower of sand... And I'll be sure to return them before I have to leave Matori again."
He'd finish his tea then go somewhere quiet, somewhere that would allow him to concentrate on the books provided to him. OR he would go and put the books safely away in his hut before going all over the village and setting off bubbles EVERYWHERE. That would bring happiness to some people, right? He could see it now!
Orpheus Solon Sure, this can be my last post, if you'd like!
