Chris Watts || 25/25 || Being a clumsy oaf
His trip to the bathroom finished, he went back around to his checking on the food. It wasn't the worst of the jobs he could have been given, he realized, and it gave him a little more pep in his step as he made sure all the guests were well fed.
However, he was a little too careless and ended up bumping into a table, causing a set of glasses full of wine to tip over. It was his luck that he would meet Melany's eyes at that moment and realize that she had seen it all, and he had messed up yet again.

jeremiah mercer || 25/25 || getting trolled HARD Perhaps the Ivory Hall is not a place he should be because it seems that the Spinel Lady has Jeremiah's number. This time she does not even say anything, simply beckons him with a crook of her finger. He knows what is coming but finds himself no longer caring. A means to an ends to perhaps find something out. Roses are red,
violets are blu- The words fall and he almost immediately snaps his mouth back shut, nearly biting his tongue. Her laughter is not a reward but a failure and Jeremiah ... Jeremiah loathes her.

Chris Watts || 25/25 || Trying way too hard
He was pretty much running himself ragged for this lady but Chris had to try. At this point, he actually wanted to prove to himself that he could do something correct for her. It was partially spite at this point, partially a stubborn determination that had taken over at the wrong side.
This time it was a song request and Chris burned it into his brain, as to not mess up. He stepped into the crowd quickly and well, he bumped into everyone in his way across the room but he was doing the song request.
Once he got it out, he looked towards Melany. Another head shake. Damn it.

Nathaniel Parrish - 25 / 25 - TENTATIVELY ATTEMPTING...
Things had not gone Particularly Well for Nathaniel the last time he had seen the Lady. He edged towards her, somewhat apprehensive of what was to come, and decided he would act as though he hadn't a) dropped a tray of drinks on her earlier, and b) knew exactly what he was doing (spoiler: he didn't).
He checked the tables, found they were very nicely stocked (even if he politely refused to eat any of them), and when he finally came back after several minutes of casually meandering around each table, he tried very hard to act completely at ease.
"Everything looks lovely, lady," he said, hoping he sounded it as well. Quote: 6 - Check that the food on the other tables is still well-stocked 2 - I'm neutral about it. 5 - Yes, and it took some doing, but I did it.

jeremiah mercer || 25/25 || getting trolled HARD She has his number and Jeremiah is not quite sure how. Algie has not returned, not quite yet, and he's found himself compelled once more by her. Refill her wine glass. It should be simple enough and he does so. It goes well up until he turns away, as if he is a servant, and stumbles as the magic fades. Wine spills all over himself that he has to clean up. He scowls, eyes glowing bright. Anymore and he might just be joining Ezra because he started to smoulder, just a little.

Juniper Wilcox | 25/25 | Failing at helping the Spinel lady
She'd been sent off to find one of the ladies servants. Welp, wasn't that just...amazing. Juniper sighed. Well, maybe she'd be able to finish this up quickly.
It didn't take long to find one of the ladies servants but as she was walking towards the young man she was walked right into by a plant person. Thank the heavens they had been carrying white wine and not red, but still her dress got splashed down the side. "Oh no." She looked at the wet mark on the sheet fabric.
Well, it really shouldn't take too long to dry, hopefully it wouldn't leave a mark, but she couldn't go back and talk to her like this.

This time is different however and he finds himself smiling as the magic creeps over him, as she has him recite a poem. An honest feeling of enthusiasm, one that is not is own feeling, suffuses him and it makes him nauseated though it does not show. We wear the mask that grins and lies,
It hides our cheeks and shades our eyes-
He cannot finish, the words thick on his tongue. Jeremiah starts to cough, his throat closing up and it's almost as if. No, not again- The detective is reaching for a glass, not caring what it is, just to get rid of the familiar sensation of smoke and fire. Her eyes glint at him.

After basically failing everything else, he was just asked to pour some wine. And while it seemed an easy task, Chris was rather apprehensive about it. For one, he would have to stand near her. Two, who knew if he could pour this to her standards. Finally, what if he got it on her? He'd be dead by the end of it.
But it was what was asked of him and so he did it, carefully pouring out what he could into a glass as gracefully as he could manage. When he was done he stepped back, giving her a light bow. Hopefully that would please her - he hadn't seen a headshake yet.

Autumn's success does not quite temper Melany's displeasure at all the disasters that went before. A deal is a deal, however, and the dove-gray fabric of the lady's gown is as lovely as before now. "Did you know the masks given to you by the magic of this place have protective properties, my darling? If you wish to extend the aegis of that protection, you have only to give your mask away." The lady has clapped her delight already by the time Alois returns to her. Her smile is maddeningly superior, but she seems less threatening now to him: perhaps he has earned his way into her good graces, a small bit. "Whyever would I care for your favorites, darling? You wear no mask, and you know what that means." She pauses. "But you'll be safe enough. I believe tonight's sacrifice will be a little less traditional." "Such comportment! I'm surprised; you seemed an utter oaf only minutes ago." The lady takes a sip of her wine. "But you haven't eaten, my darling. Are you nervous? You needn't be. If you aren't a potential tithe or a member of the selection committee, you're only here to witness."

Time spins differently, he is sure, because he is supposed to be somewhere else- This time he has to fetch the wine bottle and he stumbles on his way back, causing a small issue with a pair of dancing mice. The bite at his heels but he makes his way back to refill her glass. Cold fire seethes right under the surface.

jeremiah mercer || 25/25 || apparently being trained This time it lacks the same feel, even if his skin prickles as she beckons him. I have a use, she tells him, for someone with your eyes. There is no magic, there is no oily feeling. Not that he is put at ease. Jeremiah finds himself having to hunt down a servant, one that has long since been overdue. It is not easy but he finds them, hiding in the shadows just outside of the Ivory Hall. It was only because of his eyes, his no longer normal eyes, that he was able to find them, to sense them. The servant looks longingly towards the gates they had all came in. He feels for the creature but- They are brought back to her, his fingers curled tight around the creature's forearm. "Your missing servant, m'Lady." The detective lieutenant cannot help but think that he's being trained and he does not like it but he smiles politely all the same.

[ Temperance: 25/25 ballroom dance lessons paying off thx dad] She was beautiful in both an icy and a fiery way. It was confusing; it was terrifying. It also meant that Temperance was kind of inclined to acquiesce to anything the lady wished without too much fight. Or maybe that was a by-product of the dangerous air she gave off. It was like seeing something beautifully poisonous, marked all over by warnings signs, and wanting to touch it anyway. But Temperance wasn't stupid, so she would not touch, and simply do as asked in the hopes that she might come one or two steps closer to preventing a murder. Still, this might be her favorite NPC, if she was continuing with her theme of video games. The command that Temperance dance was met with a smile - finally, something she could do! Her partner, a being with four legs, all digitigrade, was less than easy to dance with. They smiled with teeth that had been mossed over - Temperance wondered if there was a whole ecosystem in there - and stepped on her dress multiple times. But, despite this, it was kind of... fun, actually, and Temperance found herself whirled easily through a dance. She returned to the imposing woman with pink-cheeks and a smile. "Is there anything else you wish of me?"

Ashton Carver: 25/25 / spooky lady spooky scary ooooOOOhhh As soon as Ashton emerged from the cellar, she bit her tongue and swallowed her temper -- being mad wouldn't help anything. It'd only ruin. She could fume quietly, later, at home, when her door was locked and her teeth still sharp. In the meantime...she'd always liked dangerous, commanding women. (Not necessarily in any particular way, of course -one just had to understand that, like gravity, Ashton would always be pulled into their orbit whether she wanted to be or not. She'd grown used to it by now.) And -- ask a creature to dance? Well. Not a pleasant choice, given what she'd seen others doing for this very same woman, but it was fine, it'd be fine. (It was not fine. But who had a choice in it? Nobody with an opinion.) The closest, nonobjectionable thing of the hour was draconic, if draconic was a realistic people adjective for realistic people in the real world, and perhaps feminine - the voice offered no hints, and neither did the form; although the form being an indicator of gender was, as always, a flawed thought. But the dragon-woman - dressed in chains with lightning indicated on them, tall and lithe - was a reasonable dance partner, as good as anything could be expected in this damn place -- and nobody got hurt and nobody tripped, because she was a perfect dancer, and everything was lovely. After the dance-conclusion, she bowed to the Spinel Lady, eyes flickering behind her mask. "Was that satisfactory?"

He wasn't sure how it happened. After his encounter with the man who he was certain was not illuminatui but rather a big scary spooky being he really should not antagonize, Marcus found himself back in front of the Spinel Lady. The very pretty Spinel Lady who was also terrifying for other reasons.
When she asked for a Favor, he stopped in his tracks, looked at her, paled and started walking around. Then as he realized he hadn't a clue whom he was looking for, his mind wondered why he'd started looking in the first place. He had better things to locate than errant servants.
His mouth opened. His mouth closed. Then it opened again as he said what he thought was clever.
"Well, no offense Miss, but finding one of your boys seems rather silly. Why bother having boys when you could have men?" He smiled wide and gave a wink. It was only after he said it that he realized two things:
One, that could be taken the wrong way.
Two, he was not trying hard enough to impress her and be nice and wow he was terrible with flirting even more than usual he was just going to leave now and pretend that he was off to get a drink.
If he could find a drink that is.

Chris gets an arch look. She takes the glass, swirls the wine within it, and then sips. Her lips are arterial red against the wine, and she smiles, pleased. "Here," she says, passing her old glass off to the servant Jeremiah had fetched. Temperance and Ashton, having distracted onerous guests, receive a pleased nod. "All these little favors you're doing for information, dears? They'll help decide which one of you will help us pick the tithe. Perhaps it's best if you meet with your friends to discuss who you'd like to carry that burden... not that it'll matter in the end."
