"The way you're freaking out about it seems like proof enough for me." There was downright glee in Asher's voice, now: not mean, but filled with delight as he stepped past Ed's wild swing and didn't strike with the dagger but just shoved him once, forcefully and with both hands, in the middle of his chest. Maybe Asher was just trying to knock him over. His eyes were still bright. HP: 25/50 WEA: Agile Melee, base 4 DMG: 8

Reign it in. He tried to draw in a breath, but Asher was planting his palms against his chest and shoving, hard. Unexpected, the weight of the hammer working against him, Ed back peddled, stumbled, then went down with a grunt and the sound of a solid back smacking into grass and dirt. For just a second he made to surge back to his feet, but thought better of it, took advantage to pull in a steadying breath. There was no malice from Asher. No attempt to p***k his pride, only to razz him. No reason to get bent out of shape, and no desire to. Staring up at Asher, he shifted the hammer so the edge of it hooked around a thin ankle. "You know, I didn't notice it until now, but the sky is really blue today." Then yanked to drag his foot right out from under him. "Why don't you check it out?" HP: 14 WEA: Heavy: Base 10 DMG: 10

Smug turned to surprise mighty quick, as Asher's balance was stolen out from under him and he, too, went down in a pile -- but instead of falling neatly away from Ed, he fell toward him, not landing on but beside him with a hard elbow low, somewhere near the man's kidneys. It was a wild flail that hit and hit hard. HP: 15/50 WEA: Agile Melee, base 4 DMG: 8

Well, Ed wasn't expecting that. Not only did the elbow to the kidney shock the breath right out of him, it had him curling reflexively around the point of impact. Which seemed to include a thick arm looping around Asher's waist. Mostly to get pointy elbows away from any more tender places. Mostly. "I think your elbows sharper than that blade." Strong arms squeezed, briefly. It wasn't a lingeringly tight hold, arms loosening fairly quickly so it was merely draped across the other man's lower back, and then sliding off after a moment--quicker if Asher squirmed away. The hammer lay on the ground at his side, temporarily forgotten. HP: 6 WEA: Heavy; Base 10 DMG: 5

Asher wiggled free alright -- a roll and a twist, struggling up to his feet and kicking Ed one more time, solidly, on the way. This one would hurt: hard enough to bruise, breaking through what was left of Ares's protection. Asher didn't seem like he realised. He was still moving, swiping back up his own dagger and then -- after a moment's pause -- grabbing Ed's hammer, too. He could barely lift it. It took some work to hoist it up onto one shoulder, and Asher sagged under its weight. But now he had all the weapons. "Do you give up?" HP: 10/50 WEA: Agile Melee, base 4 DMG: 8

The wiggle to freedom had been pretty much expected, but the kick? That sent him curling onto his side, hissing out a pained breath as whatever protection Ares' had provided him was worn away. Everything up to that point had been uncomfortable, annoying, vaguely painful but bearable. Now? Now he felt it, the hard toe of Asher's shoe against his rib cage as sharply as he would have in the normal world. "Hadn't I already done that?" He managed, coughing a couple of times and drawing in a long, slightly hissing breath, "Didn't have a weapon in my hands anymore. Damn." Granted, he also hadn't voiced that he was done...

There was a wary moment in which Asher wavered between concern and suspicion, like he was certain Ed was <********> with him. Maybe it was because, so far, Asher hadn't lost a fight: hadn't hit the point at which his protection was gone and those little aches and bruises started creeping back in. Maybe he'd been in these kinds of situations before and been burned; he certainly fought like someone who'd been in fights with guys twice his size before. "...I didn't kick you that hard." Another moment's pause, and he set down the hammer with a thud, shifted warily, and then offered Ed a hand up.

"Maybe, but you got like, right between two ribs." Another grunt, but it melted into a chuckle as he rolled onto his back again and took a slow breath. No breaks, no stabbing pain. Just a hard kick, and probably a pretty wicked bruise later. Asher's expression was a curious one, but as the smaller man offered a hand Ed took it, using the leverage to get back to his feet. "You're ******** quick. No wonder Hermes chose you." Stooping, he grabbed the handle of the hammer, then leaned it against his thigh after straightening.

"Maybe you should be going bare handed." It was still somewhat concerned, Asher frowning up at Ed in a vaguely threatening way -- like he wasn't impressed by the fact that he'd beaten the man. Or maybe like he was concerned, now that all was said and done, that this was a joke or he'd been allowed to win -- "Or at least carrying something smaller than that monstrosity." He let Ed go, stooping to scoop up the hammer again. Struggling with it, he'd offer it back.

"Would have been familiar," he conceded, grin returning. A close look at his knuckles would show a slight peppering of scars. "But how many chances does a person get to use an honest to god war hammer?" Not just use, but train with, get used to, get good at wielding. With his strength behind it, Ed would be able to deliver some serious damage to whatever it was they were supposed to to be defending the world against. His eyes followed the motion of the hammer as Asher hoisted it up again and offered it to him. He took it, turning the handle in his hand. "Makes a pretty good determinant to anyone that might come gunning for me."

"Does it, though?" Asher shook his head just a little, stepping away to return his dagger to the pile -- somewhat reluctantly, maybe. Part of him wanted something of this place that was his, and the little charm hanging from his belt wasn't quite enough, somehow. But he let it go, shooting Ed a look. "Didn't slow me down."

"No, but we've got that," he waved his hand vaguely between them, lips twisting up thoughtfully. "Defense of the gods thing. I hit you pretty damn hard, and it didn't really slow you down too much." If he was bitter about losing, it didn't show in his voice. "Hit a normal person with this, it'd probably kill them." No, not probably. Absolutely. Rolling his shoulders out, he followed Asher to deposit the hammer back where he'd grabbed it from, a similar look crossing his features. He'd have liked to have kept it, especially if he was seriously considering training with the thing.

"Yeah, and? You think we're going to be fighting normal people?" He hesitated over that thought for just a breath, like it surprised him he'd voiced it -- and then Asher shook it out. He didn't wait long enough for Ed to answer. He waved it away, retreating backward toward the Hermes dorms. "I'm going to take a shower. See you around."
