Another donette floated up, this one pausing in the air, just in front of June's face so the woman could closely inspect it.

"Magic is real," the girl repeated, not without sympathy. She repeated to herself often enough. "And it's getting...I think a bit more common in this town. Odd thing'sve been happening more and more often, haven't they?"

With a mental nudge, the donette zipped right into June's hand. "Not a prank like...I'm not some nerd knowing all about magnets and mirrors n's**t, are you kidding?" America huffed, a breathy little laugh. "No strings either, kay?"

She took another sip of her tea and floated it back to the table. "Honestly, it'd be easier and simpler to just ******** use my hands, but well, practice seems pretty important. Little like weight training, but for my brain. The stuff that happened at the library? Blackfriars? That involved magic stuff too. S'why the public report is so ********' weird n'flimsy."

Taking the question to refer to just the Blackfriars incident, America explained. "Well, there's like this...Other world, attached to this one. And this shapeshifter fellow ended up in this on the full moon and lost his s**t, started attacking and changing folks. Me and some others wrangled them up and put them all back into the Other Place."

A paused, and then the girl added helpfully, "Try not to get bit by anybody 'round the full moon."

The girl beamed approvingly at the notebook and pen. Miss June was taking things seriously. As she should. "I don't much, honestly. I've been to the Other Place twice, both times by accident. Turned a corner and suddenly everything is kinda grim and rainy. From what I've been told, that happens to folks sometimes. Have you noticed it raining all of sudden and weird, ever?"

"Naw, hun. I mean turn a corner, and suddenly the world is different. I guess if it's raining here, it'd be harder to tell." America turned a bit thoughtful then. "Some folks maybe dip into the Other place for a short stretch and maybe never notice. But if you look around, you'll be able to tell. It's emptier and more worn down. There's folks who live there that aren't hardly human. The ones I've met have been helpful or at least not harmful. I've heard tell that many like to make deals, like in fairy stories."

Finishing off her drink, she added, "Have you noticed strange things about town? Thing you've had to stretch and twist to make 'em seem logical?"

Her answer came in the form of a shrug and why not expression. "M'probably not the one you wanna ask about theories n'such." That was nerd stuff.

"Not everything's the same, but it's recognizable. Magic and stuff comes easier there, though. It feels more natural, over there."

"Sometimes literally magic dust," America nodded, thinking about the sort she needed to collect soon.

The girl took a moment to coo at the puppies playing, even taking out her phone to get some snaps of poodle vs corgi.

Glancing up, with a small oh, America asked again, "Have you noticed odd things yourself? Like those ********' flyers, the ones saying It Walks," her voice went dramatically deep and dire and she gave a little shudder. "Pretty sure those are some creepy sorta magic, too. I make sure to throw 'em out whenever they cross my path."

"Could be," the girl offered. "Those sorts of things are easy to pass off as nothing much. But maybe next time it happens, look a little closer, just in case."
