"That sounds like a good plan! There's no rush date on things like this, after all - all in due time, right? And a lot of the s**t you learn from working will be useful in culinary school, I bet." She nodded decisively, sure of her words; a guy like Nasir, he'd be fine no matter what he did - he had a way with people that would serve him well, she thought. And that way apparently included asking unintentionally hard questions sometimes. "I..." Naz wasn't entirely sure how to continue, looked away from him to gaze distantly at the products passing them by. "I just needed a change of pace, you know? Hell, it's not like there's some great tragedy or anything behind it, I just -" another pause, a moment to recollect her thoughts, "never quite fit in. Or felt like it, anyway; my family says I fit in fine, but I'm pretty sure that's their job to say. And I've gone through a lot of friends, because I'm..." Her mouth quirked into a dry smile, "I'm s**t at taking help from people, frankly. The little things I'm getting better at, but yeah, it's not exactly the sort of things that's conducive for long-lasting friendship. So I thought someplace new might help out, help me get a better handle on myself. Personal growth and all that s**t." Half-shrugging with a rueful laugh, she looked back at Nasir and gave him an apologetic smile; "sorry, that was a bit too much for a casual grocery store chat, wasn't it?" But the thing was, she liked Nasir; he was awesome, someone she could see herself getting along with as a friends and she'd- -she'd promised herself she'd be more honest with people. Honesty was good, strengthened relationships. Only this time she might have been a bit premature. Oh well.

"Honestly I want to open up my own restaurant someday, so it really does help." Nasir smiled again and then something like concern flickered in his expression. He was reading with his free hand, the one not already linked with Nazriya's, and squeezing her arm slightly. "I know exactly what you mean. My family told me the same thing before I left, all of my life in fact, but sometimes you've got to settle away from them and realize that maybe you didn't fit in but you can find that place." Another squeeze was given to her arm. "... and I'm certain you'll fit in fine here. Besides," his warm brown eyes glinted happily, "you have at least one new friend now. I'm pretty hard to get rid of." He meant it too. Nasir would not let someone slip away. It just wasn't who he was.

"Thanks," there was a world of emotion in that word, even with the slightly weary chuckle that followed it. "It's hard to talk about, you know? But," she gently squeezed back, "I'm glad, thank you. Even if I don't find that place in Ashdown, I'd be happy just to say I made one friend here." The smile she turned on him was brilliant, "and despite my deficiencies, I'll try my best to be a good friend in return. You'll just have to get used to me talking about my perfect cat at great length," she finished with a wink. azuredreams aww Nasir ;;; also your avi is SO CUTE

"You'll just have to get used to me talking about cooking. It's my life besides looking after Wil," Nasir smiled, just as brightly. Of course when they reached produce, it did turn out that what they were looking for was there in a display. "... and it looks like fortune favors new friends today," he chuckled. "I have an instagram that I post on. Do you do that with your cat?"

Naz laughed, "I can live with that!" And then they were at the produce section and lo and behold, the missing item was right there. "That it does," she threw a smile at Nasir before untangling herself from him to go grab two olive oils to put in her basket. "Instagram..." Humming, she thought out loud, "no, not really - didn't even know that was a thing. Cat instagrams is really a thing?" She raised an eyebrow at her new friend in curiousity, leisurely moving back to stand with him.

It was one of the last things Nasir needed, that olive oil, and with one in hand he could finish up his shopping trip. "It is," he said with a laugh. "There is even this one instagram account that's nothing but a pet otter. They're very cute and vocal." Which he had never known until he had watched the videos. "If you started one and posted pictures of your cat, you'd have people following just to see them! Especially if the kitty is adorable."

"Seriously?" Her tone was disbelieving, but there was a smile on her face. "Wow, I've never heard of anyone having an otter for a pet! But they're damn cute, I can imagine they'd make good cuddlers." She considered the idea for a moment before nodding decisively, "then it's decided - there's nothing better than people thinking my cat is cute. And, well, in my biased opinion Fiene is the cutest damn kitty ever to be born on this earth." Her husky voice took on an inquisitive tone, "What's your name on there? I'll look you up."

"Yeah, me neither but apparently in Japan they have all sorts of crazy things as pets. It's super cuddly, I'll give you the address!" Nasir was all smiles, fishing in his pocket for a small notebook and flipped it open to write his instagram down on it. "There and just let me know when you make yours and I'll add you." Then, as if realizing something, he also wrote his phone number down. "In case you need anything since you're new in town. I actually work at Darlene's. Have you been there yet? It's a good place to go if you're wanting to get a feel for the town."

"Thanks and will do!" She scoured her head for a moment, attempting to match the name Darlene's to any of the places she'd been; "I don't... think so? But I'll definitely check it out - is it the sort of place one can turn up alone or is it, y'know, intensely fancy? I might have to brook an alliance with someone else if that's the case."

"No, it's not," he chuckled. "It was a bar a few years back before Borr's wife died? He closed it up and reopened, rebranded it as something else entirely. You can get a drink and something to eat. It's popular in town."

"Sounds like my kind of place, then," she threw him a grin. "I'll go give it a look one of these evenings - cheers for the recommendation!"

"Well, if you come by, I'll make you something. My treat." Nasir meant it to. With his last item under his arm, he could head out of the grocery store. Figure out just what was going on at home with his pantry too. "I work most nights, so just let me know when you want to stop by."

"Sure, will do," her smile was soft as she replied. "Thank you for keeping me company during this most daunting grocery store quest; and for helping me find the olive oil. I'll send you a text when I get home so you've got my number too and then see about an instagram for my cat." Nasir's company had definitely brightened up the grocery store visit, and she was incredibly glad to have made a new friend here in Ashdown already.

"Thank you," he said sincerely, "for being good company." Nasir inclined his head in goodbye and also said it as well with another warm smile. "I'll keep an eye out for those texts." It was nice to run into someone else that was just as friendly and open as he was.
