General Aurostibite (spectating)

For a Corrupt that held all the appearance of being a dainty ballerina stereotype, Ceraskia certainly was able to hold her own against the Negaverse - and in turn, smashing all of those stereotypes down as she fought, which was rather like the battle between Makemake and Huntite.

Aurostibite watched from the sidelines, his eyes narrowed slightly, his arms folded across his chest. Still, in spite of this, the young man was holding his own well, and neither could have been said to be weak or not taking the spar between them seriously.

It was both refreshing and pleasing to see such dedication between them.

The tides were shifting, she could feel it. The lieutenant was determined to go down fighting, to give back what he'd gotten, and apparently being under pressure worked in his favor. The kick sent the ballerina stumbling, tiny as she was, but she caught herself before she fell, the tips of delicate fingers skimming the ground very briefly before she was straightening.

Turning, her leg came up in a kick, but the tip of her toe caught nothing but his jacket. Another miss.

This is unacceptable.

Quartz didn't fidget in his chair at all when the balance of the fight began to shift. He'd allowed for the possibility of Ceraskia's ego getting in her way as it had on previous occasions, and that seemed to be happening here, as well. It wasn't Quartz's job, however, to make things worse by creating any kind of distraction on the sidelines that would interfere with the fairness of the match. On another occasion, he might've done so on purpose, just to see how well each of them reacted to the unexpected -- but this wasn't just any someone, it was Ceraskia. He had to see her on practically a daily basis. If there was one thing Quartz didn't want, it was a lifetime of her whining about how he'd sneezed at the wrong moment and it had cost her the match, or something.

No, this was hers to win -- or lose -- on her own. Either she could master her ego and maintain an even-keeled fight, or she couldn't: either way, this battle of arms would decide things for her one way or another. Succeed or fail. Rise or fall. Pass go and collect $200, or go directly to jail. It was all binary outcomes, all determination.

He turned his focus to her opponent -- a greener agent, with little experience, but showing a willingness to adapt under pressure and a strong desire to live. Not much to build a file on, but it was a start, at least. Something to write down, to keep an eye on for further analysis.

General Cinnabar (spectating)

The doctor had signed up for the tourney and Cinnabar had felt a mix of pride and eagerness. Now was a chance to see how one of her newest recruits handled himself with little to no training under his belt yet.

She had been surprised to see him paired against one of Schörl's pets; the tiny ballet bird. Part of her wondered what a tiny and seemingly fragile little thing could really do, but she was one of Schörl's... Cin had a suspicion the green General's training would show here.

Ceraskia came out strong, trading blows far more expertly than the newer lieutenant was able to, but then the tide turned and it seemed he had caught a second wind. Seeing it, Cinnabar roared her approval and stomped against the stone. Others might hold back, but she wanted him to know she was watching, and who her support was for.

However this came out, she would be proud he had participated, and win or lose, some heavy training was in his future. If he was willing to fight, then by God, he would know how.

The kick was just enough to knock the ballerina back a few steps before she gained her composure. There was no reason to think that despite one returned hit that Chalcopyrite was going get to be able to continue returning the well deserved favor. Hoping was for fools, he told himself, even more so now that he could hear Cinnabar booming voice over the crowd. The worse possible move would be making an utter fool of himself in front of her. He would have to deal with the bruises forming and do what he to stand his ground till the end.

She lunged forward her foot aiming high as he did what he could to lean away from her attack. Missed. Hastily he brought his knee up, again aiming for her exposed midsection making a rough but solid contact, refusing to wince for the pain of his previous injury.

No!. She did t want to lose! Not with her mistress watching, and she knew she was there. A silent figure in the crowd, keen eyes rating solely on the petite dancer. Don't let me disappoint her. Please.

A shout echoed from the audience, loud and booming, and th senshi flinched, startled, which was all the time the lieutenant needed to bring his knee up into the smaller girl's stomach. It stole the air from her lungs, had her doubling over instinctively as she tried to pull a breath into protesting lungs.

The crowds voices rose and he could even feel more eyes watching from the stands curious of what would happen next. It was overwhelming for the novice, for most of his life he had done his best to avoid the being at any point the center of attention but now there were enough to cause discomfort.

Still, Chalcopyrite kept his focus on her as she doubled over from his attack and what he could only guess gasping from the lack of air taken from her lungs. Not wishing to give her any chance to recover he curled a fist and struck low again to her gut.

Another solidly aimed punch to the gut, and Ceraskia very nearly dropped to her knees. Still unable to draw a full breath from the previous hit, it felt now like she was being suffocated, as if her very lungs and diaphragm just weren't working. She couldn't breath! Don't panic. Spots were dancing across her vision. Don't panic. It was impossible to put up a suitable defense. Don't panic.

It was alright. Her body was screaming otherwise, that something was wrong, that she needed air or she was going to pass out. But it was alright. This was a spar. This was a supervised exercise, with strong, intelligent individuals stationed around the sidelines. There was no danger here. It was alright.

She had to focus, or she was going to lose this thing. How many seconds had ticked by since he'd struck her? She didn't know, but she couldn't give him any more. Couldn't give him the chance to get another blow in before she had a chance to retaliate, or she was done.

So the corrupt gathered what strength she had left, fighting for even half a breath, and she stepped into the lieutenant with one tiny fist curled low at her hip, bringing it up hard and fast to slam delicate knuckles into the underside of his jaw. The punch connected, she heard it as well as felt it, and the shock of the force sung down her arm a split second before pain blossomed across the whole of her hand, dragging a startled yelp from the petite dancer as she skipped back and away from him.

SPECTATOR

She waited for any processes of the event itself, if there needed to be a ruling by the referees, and for the dust to settle a moment on the combatants. Then opera-clapped for the efforts of the two.

We are at our most vulnerable when we believe we have won beyond all doubt. Very nearly paid for that assumption. But managed. Managed to turn it back around with new lessons of how painful miscalculations could be, even in victory. But this one wasn't Pyrrhic, thankfully. We might have to practice punching... The General made a gradual descent to the ring edge from the surrounding seating.

"Round one under belt. " Barbary held out the rose in a floppy, silent paw. " I have an orb if you've broken a knuckle. Catch your breath, Pigeon."

As she dropped to her knees Chalcopyrite took a step back, she was gasping now the air completely gone from her lungs, or at least that was the doctor’s medical observation as he stood there. Pain ached from his hand from where he hit her, harder then he had fully anticipated but it had done the job that he wanted to complete.

Down…this is...wrong. For a brief moment he stood there, half his mind screamed that he needed to move, to finish her off knowing that if he was in the same position as she there would have been no hesitation from the tiny dancer. Yet his limbs were unwilling to cooperate, no more like refusing to maneuver as he stood suspended there. This went against everything he had been taught and had spent all of his youthful years avoiding. He was here for knowledge, to study something no one else had ever had the chance to it was the only reason he had agreed. So why was he now in the middle of the ring, involved in the middle of conflict with all eyes on them?

Move… It was too late, his body jerked but the dancer was already on her feet her fist colliding underneath his jaw as pain shot through every nerve of his body. The taste of iron filing his mouth as Chalcopyrite fell to his knees, spots drifted into his vision his body feeling limp before everything went entirely black. Failed he had completely failed.

General Cinnabar

The general watched as her lieutenant hesitated and lost his advantage, Ceraskia taking the opportunity to strike back and claim victory for herself. The dark-haired man crumpled and as Schörl moved towards her victor, Cinnabar moved towards the fallen.

Bending down over Chalcopyrite, he seemed out cold, his eyes closed and his breathing shallow. Cin reached out to pat his cheek before she took hold of his shoulder and shook him gently.

"Come on, Doctor. Wakey wakey, eggs and bakey." She sing-songed, chuckling. "Come on now. Fights over, time to go get consolation ice cream."

Despite the loss, Cin felt proud of how well he had done. Another good swing and he could have been the winner, and there was no shame in that. All of her people seemed to be losing, but that just meant some training was in order. Not unexpected, with how new most of them were.

Thankfully, remarkably, the lieutenant dropped to his knees, and then fell to a boneless sprawl on his back. Ceraskia watched him warily, her right hand held gingerly in her left, as if she were waiting for him to get up again, to continue fighting. It had been a bit of a roller coaster match, the lead shifting between the two of them until it was literally down to the wire, and one last hit was all it would have taken for either.

He didn't move, and the corrupt let out the breath she'd been holding, resuming the heavier rise and fall of her chest as she relearned how to breath after the consecutive blows to her abdomen. There would be bruises come morning.

Or perhaps not.

Schrol's voice at her side had her turning to meet the tall general, and the dancer smiled despite herself. Relieved and pleased. It was just one fight, there was more to come, but she'd won, she'd done it. It counted for something, certainly. Especially considering the odds staked against her. "I'm not sure if it's broken or heavily bruised, but an orb would offer a lot of help."

The rose caught her eye, held in the floppy paw of her lady's youma, and the corrupt couldn't help the fond coo that followed as she took it carefully, scratching under the beast's chin and around his cheek to linger behind one curved ear. "Thank you."

Unlike Schörl, Quartz had no words of warmth or encouragement for Ceraskia in the wake of her victory. He stood up from his seat, stretching his legs briefly, and watched Cinnabar all but dragging her fallen recruit off the field of battle. She was, as ever, a strange beast -- Quartz supposed all her little lieutenants must mean something to her, like a mother bear with a bunch of stolen and confused cubs. But that was generally an observation for another day. For now, Quartz had another match to sit in on.

He stopped only briefly where Ceraskia stood being festooned with flowers by the General and her floppy youma. "Keep your attitude in check," he advised drily. "It nearly cost you."

He didn't wait for an answer. Knowing Ceraskia, he expected that, as usual, she'd disregard his advice because she found it insulting and it made her unhappy. But, as he'd said, that kind of attitude was her problem -- not his. She wasn't his underling. She could topple off a bridge for all it reflected on him.

He turned on his heel and left.

As another one of the battles ended, Aurostibite felt a sense of pride that he and Xenotime had been able to accomplish such a seemingly successful event. They had both worked hard to achieve the tournament as a method of training and exercise and learning, especially for the newer recruits, and it seemed, to his eyes, to be going well.

The ballerina corrupt had come out on top in this particular fight, and Aurostibite stepped forward.

"Congratulations," he told her with a nod. "You've done well - you both have," he added, with a look at the other lieutenant; though considering he was on the ground, he might not have heard him. "There are water and bandages over there, take a rest, and then round two will start soon."
