Zeke missed the little finger licking, page turning routine Cain was employing to try to get his attention. Or that was how it seemed, at least. He never looked up to glance in his direction. The Mist's attention stayed focused down, first on whatever paperwork they had that needed going over and filling out, and then, when that was finished, he had his notebook. It was at this point that he finally did something other than reading or writing. The pen in his hand was rather abruptly discarded, tossed towards the trash off to their side, and he leaned forward, rising partially out of his seat, to reach past Cain to grab a new one from the cup of writing utensils sitting on the desk near the corner of the files the smaller man was working on. If Cain glanced up at this, he'd get a small, apologetic smile, but that was it. Zeke sank back in his chair, taking his notebook with him, and continued writing again. Another couple of moments later, and his leg cam e up, resting on the opposite near again. The picture of comfort and ease.

Cain was failing miserably to get attention, not to mention being subtly sexy and it pissed him off. He had tried to prepare for the day this happened again. Apparently the blonde had been pissing in the wind with that but oh well. Zeke didn't even deserve effort, hell, hell he could probably just get up and deposit himself right in the apes lap! But he refused. Refused like a bristling kitten as a finger pressed against pen and snapped it when Zeke flashed a smile after invading his space! That b*****d wasn't sorry he was doing it on purpose and just what the hell was he writing! Eyes landed on the notebook, the one he childishly wanted to snatch and read. Then rip up and pout. "Cheap pens..." He grouched more to himself as he looked down to the inky mess in his hand. Moving it away from his papers and standing to go to the trash to throw it away. Where the hell were the facial tissues around here again, eyes looked as he threw the pen shards away. An inky set of fingers flexing out as he frowned deeply.

The sound of snapping plastic seemed to finally drawn the Mist's attention away from his work, and pale eyes skipped to Cain's face curiously, then down to the broken pen and leaking ink in his hands. Cheap pens, indeed. But the thought was kept to himself, mostly. Lagertha giggled in the background. He watched the smaller man as he got up to throw the pen away, the smallest of smiles pulling at the corner of his lips. Amused, but keeping it subtle. After a moment he reached to tug a few tissues from the box on the desk, leaning back once more to offer them over. "I bet a bit of alcohol will get the color off your hands." He was being nice, nicer than he usually was with Cain, but that was the game. To be perfectly pleasant, unantagonistic, and see just what the smaller man did with that kindness. being aggressive had gotten him in the Life's pants, now he wanted to know what effect that has on the temperamental man.

Cain wasn't sure how to take the aid from the older man. It was weird to say the least since Zeke was typically an asshat when they met. Skeptical the younger approached and took the held out tissue, wiping his hands down then shrugging shoulders. "It's fine now that its dry..." He muttered and turned to throw the tissue away, adding to try, "and why should I trust you anyways, you aren't exactly the most helpful person." The blonde moved back to his seat slowly. Lingering a little behind Zeke to peek into the notebook. What the hell was he doing?

Head tipping against the back of his chair, he managed to keep Cain in sight, even when the smaller man moved close enough to peer over his shoulder. If he was bothered by the Life peering at the contents of his research notes, he certainly didn't show it. In fact, he might have shifted the notebook to make it easier to ready. The pages consisted of small, neat hand writing in short paragraphs, bulleted lists, and a few smaller, less concise notes scattered here and there in the margins. "That's not true." He grinned, bringing one hand up to push his glasses back to rest on his head. "I'm incredibly helpful." To an extent. "I wrapped your ankle for you, made sure you were alright." Pale eyes closed, and his grin widened. "And lets not forget what I did for you last time we had over lapping night shifts."

It was just research, which was weirdly amusing to think of Zeke doing. But then against he was a Mist wasn't he. The man was also on a higher level on the totem pole than him which meant for as bratty as the a** could be he had to work. This as he thought of it only frustrated the blonde more, cause, cause reason.Cain knew he was alarmingly hot and cold around Zeke and for someone whom hadn't experienced much in his life in way of emotions it was frightening. Confusing as well but hell everything seemed to confuse him these days. The blonde sighed loudly in annoyance and ruffled a hand through his own hair. "That's not true." Cain cringed at the words knowing what came next but at least it was expected and at least they were alone. One, two- and there it was- "And lets not forget what I did for you last time we had over lapping night shifts." The blonde moved now in irritation, a hand moving to grab the notebook and pull it up as a leg went over a more muscular thigh. His other was turning the chair further around for more room. He was shifting to climb into the sitting mans lap regardless of if Zeke wanted it or not. Because now he had an excuse..... Yellow frames slipped to the end of his small pointed nose and the younger man glared down, "did we not agree never to bring that up?" He was DAMN sure it was a requirement before it had even been done! Not that he expected at all for the man to honor the deal. Nor did he really care much considering he could and would deny it.

His notebook being yanked out of his hand had pale eyes snapping open, and lips drawing back in what would have been a snarl if Cain hadn't managed to throw a leg over the larger man's thigh's before the noise could manifest itself. Instead, it was a rumble of irritation, one that quieted and faded to nothing as the Lifer settled on his lap, tanned hands moving automatically to rest lightly on small hips. "We did not," he countered smoothly, eyes narrowed. Regardless of whether or not an agreement had existed(it didn't, if Cain had meant to establish one, he'd forgotten), Ezekiel's courtesy would have extended only far enough to keep him from mentioning their time together to anyone else, and not at all to candid, private conversations between the both of them. Zeke wasn't fooled though, Cain's motives were pretty easy to see through. The small Life had been looking for an excuse, any excuse, to broach the subject of their last meeting, without having to bring it up himself. Feature's smoothing back to calm neutrality, the Mist made to pluck the notebook from Cain's small hand so he could toss it on the desk.

The counter was ignored in favor of question as the notebook was easily taken back, "what is it?" The research that was, he couldn't help but be curious. As a hand still lingered at his hip Cain felt it was alright for his own hands to snake up and around Zeke's shoulders. There that felt right....
Fingers curled around the broad shoulders hesitantly settling there as he frowned at the Mist. A leg shifted awkwardly and his freckled nose curled. It was hard to figure out just how to sit like this, mostly because he was kind of getting a cramp. How the hell did people do this and look attractive still!?

The smaller man kept squirming, shifting on his lap even as he leaned in to drape arms over his shoulders, and the Mist waited a moment for him to find a comfortable way to sit before clucking his tongue impatiently and taking over to move Cain himself. Zeke dropped his leg so both boots were planted on the ground, and that'd make it a bit easier for the small blonde, but so would the strong tug and push to get him him more centered on his thighs. He could have ignored the question, focused instead on needling the Life about his current position, but why? At this point it seemed pretty obvious he'd won. Not just this exchange, but over all. He didn't want to drive Cain away, so he didn't bother making a big deal out him having crawled into his lap. He was just fine with that sort of behavior, there was no reason to dissuade it. "Do you want the tl;dr explanation, or the more comprehensive one?" Any irritation he might have displayed a moment ago seemed to have evaporated completely away.

Zeke had apparently had enough of his squirming and decided to help, for once. Strong arms found slender frame and met no resistance as they positioned him better. Luckily the cramp in leg had vanished when he was released more centered now over the thicker thighs. An annoyed look flashed to the older man and he muttered, " I am able to sit by myself.." Stupid Zeke, why did he have to embarrass him, surely the jerk knew. Fingers hesitantly touched the warm skin of neck with tips, gently gliding over skin as he watched the man. Looking for any signs this wasn't what was supposed to be done. Looking for that moment to get up and flee, pretend it never happened. It being him trying to let a little guard down that is. Idiot, the word was purred in his mind, a mocking little witch amused with what was happening on the inside of his head. "Whatever is fine, it's not like we're busy..I'm just curious," he sighed softly and leaned back a touch.

Cain's protest was met with a sharp exhale that wasn't quite a snort, but in that same realm. Sure, he'd probably found a comfortable arrangement eventually, but after how many squirms, adjustments, and shifts? Who had time for all that? It wasn't about embarrassment, it was about efficiency and mutual comfort. It didn't seem as though the small Life was really that upset about it though, not with the soft brush of small fingers along the side and back of his neck. Tentative, unsure motions that managed to betray the insecurities the Mist knew plagued Cain's temperamental little mind. Really, he didn't have much of a reason to worry. It wasn't as if Zeke had any intentions of chasing him off. Zeke's thumbs moved over Cain's hip in slow, soft strokes, almost absently. "Alright then." So a more comprehensive explanation. "My major in college, before I was recruited by Deus, was marine biology. I was only a few credits away from graduating with my bachelors," he lamented. "But that's neither here, nor there." There was no going back to finish it, and even if he could, he wasn't sure he could go back to a normal life after all this, even if he had wanted to. "I've been working with Harley Kiddo, another Life trainee, on theorizing and putting together limited research notes on the long and short term effects of Fear on marine life near hot spots. We're gearing up to a trip to southern America in the summer, which will be the start of a larger research project, and documentation of Fear species in different regions."

The sound that escaped the elder mans lip was readily ignored, he didn't care if Zeke was frustrated with the protest. They both knew Cain had to make it so Zeke would deal with it or leave him alone. Choice was simple and since he wasn't being pushed away Cain settled that Zeke had decided to deal with it. This putting the lifers mind somewhat more at ease with what was happening, what he was allowing himself to think and feel. Not to mention do as touches to neck got more confident under the stroke to hip. Marine biology, well, that was unexpected. The smaller man blinked skeptically to Zeke but listened, Zeke wasn't dumb but something like that didn't you have to be relatively smart? Because science, math and all that other boring nonsense that Cain himself had no patience for. Course Cain had done well in the topics themselves, didn't have much problems with them, he was just to restless but then again he had been a teenager when recruited. Now he was older and was much more into science and such nonsense, which likely kept him actually working in the life division and not being forcibly reassigned. A few credits shy of a degree, that had to sting. He wondered breifly how long a goal that had been for Zeke. Then thoughts turned to himself, all the things he missed out on. Life hadn't exactly reached many milestones for the Lifer before it ended when he came here. Hell his twenty first birthday hadn't even happened, though it would on the thirteenth. On a shake of his head and push back of all the should of, could haves of life Cain went back to words. Wait what? A trip? Oh...research. But still... Zeke was leaving. A small wash of sadness and something unidentifiable hit chest, weighing heavily now as blues tried to work themselves back down from their wide look. Cain knew the importance of such things but childishly wanted to ask if it was really that important to study fish. Fingers had stopped their play at neck and slowly dragged down to land on shoulders. "Do you regret coming here?" He asked, tone soft and serious as always, accompanying the question was an answer serious or I will strangle you look. This was a question he had asked others before, a few actually, himself included. Then he smiled and shifted as if going to get off Zeke's lap, but didn't, adding bitchily, "let me know when you leave, just so I can be sure if I don't see you months later..that your sleeping with the fishes."

Well that was an interesting little reaction to the the news that he'd be leaving, even if temporarily. Hazel eyes met baby blues in a shrewd, knowing look before softening back into that almost bored neutrality that tended to be his default. Cain didn't like that he was leaving. That was a little unexpected. Last he'd known, the little Lifer had barely tolerated his company, and only because he hadn't yet expanded his sexual circle out to include anyone else. Interesting.{ Very.} Small hands had stilled on his neck before slipping down to rest on his shoulders, and Zeke took the moment, the small shift, to draw Cain in a little closer on his lap so his hands wrapped around to rest lower on the back of slender hips. "No." He should probably elaborate a little here. "I was being attacked by something when I was recruited. I doubt that experience would have let me return to my life as if everything was normal. Besides," he continued on, slouching down in the chair a little further. "I wanted answers." Cain smiled, no longer serious, and shifted a bit more before offering up biting little comment that had Zeke snorting in response. "Fine. I don't think I could go missing for more then a few weeks, though. Not without someone coming to ind us." Not with the S.P.E.C.T.R.E. watch affixed to his left wrist.

Well there went his physical contact for god knows how long. Damn. Cain would like to believe that was the only reason he wasn't to keen on the idea of Zeke leaving. Just the fact that he hadn't expanded outside the man for sexual contact just yet, but there was Nellie. They had been getting along on a tolerable level at the moment and Cain wasn't opposed to women in the least, hell he had at one time thought that was all he had been attracted to. Pulled further up the larger set of thighs and curled around the freckled face man smirked. Looking down to a Zeke whom was slumped in the chair and speaking. Another no huh, maybe he was the only one having these second thoughts? Or maybe people were lying when he asked, it wasn't like Zeke owed him the truth was it? They weren't exactly friends, but he wasn't exactly sure what they were not that a title was needed because those only came with drama. And drama was something Cain wanted nothing to do with. "Fine." He snorted right back to the other man, still holding that eye that told the other if he didn't want to get bitched out he would still tell him when going. Didn't matter what they were, Cain did at least deserve a goodbye in his own opinion. As words cut off to an end Cain lingered in the silence for a second before offering only once, "....ten minutes before rounds.." What to do Zeke? [ Such a pathetic little thing, eheheh. ]

Well that was s hint if ever the man heard one. He smirked up at the small Lifer, debating feigning oblivion, but there was more fun to be had if he didt. Still, he had to tease, if only a little. "Gee," he mused, hands sliding up thin sides to curve up along Cain's rib cage. "Whatever will we do with our time?" Of course, even as he said it he was drawing Cain down against him, letting his arms curl around that much smaller body as he topped his head up. There wasn't time for very much, not before rounds, but that didn't mean they couldn't get the ball rolling now, pause for rounds, and then Dinah up elsewhere. It wouldn't have been the first time work had interrupted something fun, but it was always a temporary interrupting. One hand moved up to settle on the nape of Cain's beck, thick fingers kneading there. The other remained firmly wrapped around him. The way they were sitting, Zeke could reach to the man's shoulder, the line of his collarbone, but if Cain wanted a kiss he'd have to lean down to take it.
