Her defense even if half-hearted was still a sobering reminder and he slowly quieted soon after, still with a smile on his lips. Tempted to almost tell her that he had forgotten but on second thought that would be bad, would force her to keep reminding him, so he said nothing other than to follow her inside with a curious glance toward the can she just kicked. Ahh ..so that was the sound.
" Your brother...." He sighed as he looked around, eyes brightening as he caught sight of all the dry and can goods. Who ever owned this place was going to be pissed when they came back....actually. Tilting his head slightly he moved forward listening for any active electronic (Electric sense 1)
"Might not have done better than you. Um, it is a fairly recent invention ..I think" maybe in the past hundred years..he had no clue how old Ashral was and if she was taking memories from Hexxis? Hexxis might not know either.
Letting his wings drag behind him on the floor he dug through one of the drawers pulling out a can opener. "This " he muttered quietly as he pulled down a can of black olives and moved out of the way, now that his mind was distracted in other things the pain wasn't as bad. Slowly he showed her how to put the can opener on the can and slowly turned it around as it opened until he just pulled the top off and offered the olives to her. "What do you want to know? " he sounded curious instead of defensive as he placed the can back down near her and looked at what else was there, he could teach her to cook something quickly, assuming there was gas here and if they could make a fire, hm likely some type of camping gas flame somewhere.

He spoke of an invention and she forced herself to glance at what he was doing, as he grabbed a peculiar device and began to open the can effortlessly. She raised an eyebrow faintly as it didn't exactly make all that much sense but she had a general understanding of what he was doing. He offered her olives and she looked at it was a blank stare for a moment before picked one out and put it in her mouth. Interesting. She pauses as he asked her what she wanted to know, and honestly she hadn't expected to be asked what information she favored. She frowned, not sure what to ask as she moved to the counter and grabbed the knife and walked to the sink to wash it off. "What was your home like?...... Did you.. get to play outside often?" she asked with a solemn look, focused on the water than ran off the knife as it washed away the orange coating from its steel. Maybe the questions were odd but she'd never experienced anything other than a dark crawl space most of her life. The idea that outside was a place to roam was an exciting notion. She narrowed her eyes in focus on the blade. "..do you.. have any siblings?"

Watching her eat the first olive without complaint, he took down another can and put it on the counter between them. Wincing internally as she started to wash the knife, it was interesting she would wash the knife first when he was more worried about the floor and where they wer- ....... now he had orange sauce on his wings......darn it.
"Your turn, try it on that one" he motioned to the closed can as he looked around for one of those gas camp stoves, finding it and bottle water under the sink. Lifting it up with telekinesis, he put it on the kitchen base and floated over a bag of like he was using another limb. "I'm going to show you how to cook something. Eggs are supposedly the easiest but that turns bad pretty quick. For er... split green peas? we open the bag " he pulled the bag apart at an edge and poured it into a pot he found while lifting two bottles of water which he unscrewed and pour into the pot . He then grabbed the two empty bottles and the bag putting them off to the side. "You cover them with enough water then just turn on the fire and wait until they are soft and it's done" he said quietly, reading the directions for the camp fire itself, opening the knob with telekinesis then turning on the knob and pretting the lighter until it turned on. "There!" he grinned faintly and moved to get some olives out of a can, trying not to scarf them down.
"Uh..." the elation quickly disappeared only to be replaced by a faintly haunted look as he looked away to grab the can of olives and eat another one. "SIU was my home... you pretty much saw how that was. Or...didn't. " he winced. "Lots of people coming in every day and going home at night. researching stuff and military things. I had a room....... uh yea" he trailed off not looking like he wanted to talk about it. "When I got older I escaped now and then to wander outside of the base, as far as Hanale sometimes. At the base I could go outside when I wanted but after my second or third year of life people didn't want me to play with their children so I wandered " he shrugged grimacing at the surge of pain. "As for siblings.... no idea. " he frowned.

She put the knife back down on the counter and then picked up the device and tried it on the can, struggling with it, not exactly grasping how to use it properly before becoming frustrated and throwing the can to the ground in anger. She paused suddenly, staring at the can with a face of realization as it rolled across the wood floors. She narrowed her eyes in pain again, watching it carefully. "I'm.. sorry." she apologized slowly then looked away completely as though regretting it.
She listened to him talk of his situation growing up, frowning at the implied isolation. She shifted her weight uneasily as she kept her eyes focused on the can. She reached up her hand to grab her arm, visibly showing her discomfort. "I.. I lived under the floors in the crawlspace beneath my brother's workshop. I wasn't allow to go outside ever. Too dangerous, I guess. But I spent most of my life there.... " she paused then slid her eyes to him, looking at him with a thoughtful but sad look. "It's not his fault... I.. I think I did something bad,.... I.. I'm sure I deserved it somehow." she sighed, not really coming up with a good way to explain it at the moment. She then heard his answer about siblings and she stared at him. She wanted to smile, grin wildly even, make a comment, but she decided not to. It wasn't worth it to call him out on the answer, as she wasn't feeling up to starting a fight or anything. Just looking at his face made her feel calmer, so she doubted anything bad would happen, only something to poke at. Sighing once more she tightened her grip on her arm and looked away, trying to think of what else to say.

Ree looked over at the can with a hint of disappointment as he floating it back up to him, glad his head wasn't pounding as it had been when he passed out.
"It's okay....here" he said quietly taking the can opener again and placing it on the edge of the can before clamping down. Looking at the handle he turning it around so she could open it the rest of the way. "It takes practice.." he smiled faintly trying to lighten the mood somewhat until it just fell again.
There was a flicker of anger in his eyes as he looked toward her own sad expression. "Most of your life?. " he stared, trying to figure out how old Ashral was and really having no bases for it at all other than she sounded older than a child or pre-teen? "Dangerous or not he shouldn't have had you hiding under the floor without ever going outside" His wings tried to lift and automatically dropped as pain shot up through them making him grimace and look more angry. "What would be the point of living if you never got to go outside? or smell the wind. Even prisoners get that option unless they are intractable" he looked angry, not even all of it at Ashral's brother, he dind't even know why he did it maybe he had a good reason but it hit on an old fear. Ownership ..property.
Shaking his head violently he reached out for the already open can and drained the water before placing it back down on the counter. Change the subject just change it before she takes offense at having her brother questioned. What was a light subject, everything was heavy. He almost felt like the dog in the song but not wanting to wallow in grief. Oh yes...duh the reason. "Tri.... I....damn it " he hissed softly, he didn't have his pack any more with his computer and the locations of the renegades that SIU suspected. "Ask anther question?" he shook his head, blank without moving just back into her past.

Ashral watched as he seemed to be getting mad about what she said. Defensive? She frowned more, her eyes now staring at him with a mixture of confusion and concern. Why was he getting so mad over it? He barely knew her... So why did he even care. "I.. don't remember exactly why... It was after our parents died. I think he was protecting me from something... " she seemed to lower her shoulders, wincing at the pain that she forgot about the wounds. "He kept me safe... I was fine with it... I think.. the alternative was worse.. My memories are still pretty foggy at times." she sighed and closed her eyes, trying to keep herself from getting emotional. "I dont know what you would have expected... I am a malice... So of course my life was a pitiful existence of sorts. It.. doesnt bother me... Part of me even want to see him again... But I'm scared of all that. Just like with you, my thoughts are really conflicted. What I want to do, and what I'm supposed to do hang in a balance of confusion and uncertainty." she began to confess.
She took a deep breath and forced herself to let go of her arm and grab a few more olives and eat them. She looked to him, now staring again. "I dont know what to ask... I dont know very much..." she explained as she tried to think. "You said.. You were like the cat... What do you think is your Eden?" she asked, placing her hands on the can opener again and slowly getting it to turn to turn. This time much more successful as a faint smile surfaced on her lips.

The edge of one of his wings twitched slightly as he watched her open the can with a faint responding smile but his expression was troubled. She had to ask -all- the hard questions today didn't see, especially those he was only starting to remember. Then there was her brother, it was unkind of him to think ill of the dead and without any other information but damn it ... she turned into a malice, he didn't do her any favors if she spent most of her time locked up, it was a wonder she wasn't even more crazed.
"My eden.... " he took a pained breath and let it out looking thoughtful. He felt like he was searching for someone or something but had no idea what. Otherwise he was in SIU and felt nothing more than an extra wheel doing what he was told but not really being able to do anything else... now even that was gone and the two he relied on were missing. What was his Eden? He knew Tri's and Mara's Eden and he shared it but not in the way SIU had been, not with Tri being property so the rest of them could survive. He could barely even find a friend within his own race... no not even barely he didn't -have- a friend within his own race outside of Tri even so there was Melody..he would just eventually push her away like he did the human and non-human kids . Only humans and non-humans...that really were his only friends and none that have ever been that close without being family.
"You know.... I guess my eden is a place where one part of my family isn't in danger of being considered property or a pest ..." he turned to look at her closely. "not one part...Half of it..." he corrected with a sigh and shook his head.
"Its the same dreamed shared by a bunch of other groups and so far I couldn't even support one of them. Each making it worse or bending to far. None of them actually expanding what Belosh had set up and pushing it outwards to the rest of the world. Not even the renegades with their power are doing what they can..nope just declaring war on the entire continent instead. Now you and I can't do much except surviving and maybe more if you want ....which " he turned slightly to face her seriously, lower wings shifting feathers across the floor.
"I want to give you the option. You Ashral. Do you want to be my sister? If Tri can bring in hexxis without asking me I can darn well bring in anyone else I want without asking him. Would you want to though? I won't be the brother you lost, I'll be the stupid one who thinks flying in a storm is a great idea. I have no freaking clue if that will help your confusion or not but at least it might help separate me from him, because I am not him. I am just some stupid meta who keeps accidentally killing people" his wings were raised now despite the pain, looking both angry and sad but also determined as he looked at her intently.,

Ashral didn't exactly understand what he was talking about. Property or pest. War. Cities she had never heard of. Though his tone set the context for his answer. A place where he could be with his family in peace without fear of prosecution or danger. She watched him carefully, her own longing reflected from his words as he looked at her with such intensity.
Then he asked her... Her hands reflexively moving to cover her mouth in disbelief and tears began to fill her eyes. He wanted her to be his sister. Someone he could consider family... Was that even possible for her. She felt overjoyed... But why did her heart hurt so much. His question was supposed to make her feel happy. Then why was her heart breaking so badly. She looked away, pain in her eyes. She debated what to say. Maybe if she actually said it, he could understand her source of conflict. But fear rose up just as great, scared that he would react... Well, like she very well expected him to. She took a deep shaky breath. "Being my brother... Wont help me differentiate between you and Shogu...." she started. She took a deeper breath of air and composed herself. "How about... I tell you why I'm conflicted... And then if you still want to be me to be your sister... I would love to." she offered, sighing a bit. "Actually.. I have a pretty hard time saying things.. Part of why I'm still around. Maybe... I should just.. Show you." Looking away she motioned for him to come down to her, being fairly shorter the him at the moment. Once he obliged, she stood there for a few seconds building courage as she took one last deep breath and moved towards him, as though about to kiss him. She hesitated, however, and then moved to kiss him on the cheek instead. "My feelings are... complicated, Ree.... So now I ask you... Would you rather me be your close family member... Or would you rather me be closer?" she averted her eyes, scared and almost embarrassed, mentally bracing for the answer she knew would come. "I want either one... So I wont be mad if you choose the former... I just wanted to give you that option..."

Ree watched her carefully, not at all expecting the answer that she gave with just her body language alone. Disbelief, tears... joy? Was that all she wanted? To be part of a family? He started to smile until he saw pain overtake her face moments before she looked away. The smile faded away as he stood where he was watching her, waiting to hear her answer or reason, good or bad.
Straightening his back slightly he move to ask why, confusion outlined easily on his face until she started to speak again. Conflicted? Conflicted because they were to similar? No, she would have simply said that instead of ask to show him. He truly had no idea then what it could be.
Looking closely at the top of her head he sighed and nodded even if she couldn't see it. Crouched down he lowered himself until they were now nearly at the same height, was that important? Maybe since she seemed to be gather herself to do something, something that was obviously nerve-wracking for her. "Why did you want me to...?" his question trailed off the moment she kissed his cheek. Blinking in confusion he tilted his head slightly to the side, still not seeing the problem that was conflicting her.
My feelings are... complicated, Ree.... So now I ask you... Would you rather me be your close family member... Or would you rather me be closer?"
oh....Oh....OH. The blue gaze widening in surprise and fear as his mind just grabbed on to those last words, processing what she said then doing it again to make sure he had it right. He has his response ready, right then and there but he also had tact as much as Mara and Tri sometimes disbelieved in it.
Letting out a soft breath he was not even sure what to say as he looked at Ashral... no Hexxis closely. Catching the fear and embarrassment on her face even as she kept her eyes diverted. He loved her brother in ..that way. This...well... he could see how this would make her conflicted, he wasn't sure if she wouldn't continue to feel that way later. Either ways he was not going to pull back the offer. "Lets make this fair..." he said quietly as he summoned his bone of his light artifacts into his hand making it disappear before it even solidify only to summon the Cat...feeling a sicking sense of falling as part of him just split away. ((Light artifact 1: Soul Light 8 ))
Cat: The spirit piece in the shape of a faintly glowing winged black cat fading to white along the edges, glanced up at Hexxis from where it appeared on the counter. It blinked once then again as it attempted to see the souls within the shell as Ree just closed his eyes.
"I see you now instead of Hexxis...." he trailed off raising his hand to run it through his hair with a painful wince at his injuries. Darkness with specks of light that glow very very strongly at the moment within another spirit the slept. He wasn't sure exactly what he was seeing other than it was two people...two souls.
Cat: It shifted nervously, licking its fur at the same time Ree ran his hand through his own hair. Never looking away from Ashral/Hexxis.
"Because I didn't want there to be any mistake or false hope" he said quietly opening his eyes again "I would rather have you as my sister because in a way, we both need the friendship and something just stable in our lives. The simplicity of having someone or more than someone there for you... or not at all " he frowned trying to word the next part carefully. " Being uh... closer with me" he flushed at the wording and the meaning behind it,just as the cat started licking a paw furiously. " Won't make you happy. You want love, not the one a family can give but romantic love. With someone you get to know and can love you back. Which does not mean I might not eventually love you.. but not in the way you wish" his voice was turning serious and less embarrassed as the cat turned white with black edges.
"Ashral, the offer to be my sister is still up but I will not likely be your lover. " he took a breath "Truthfully, I have not even reach that stage in my maturation " he said tapping his head with his index finger to indicate it being mental. "I am 7 years old, to metas that means nothing but growing up and around humans and non-humans I know they take that into account with disbelief mostly. Maybe being focused on it is a flaw that only applies to me, but I do not want to see you hanging on to that when you could find true love elsewhere once you split. " he said holding out his hand smiling faintly even if he felt and seems a little cold as the cat swirled between white and black.

Her breath quickened, her chest hurt so much as she took a steady breath and closed her eyes, "I'm sorry.. I.... That was stupid... Honestly, I know there's a lot of reason it wouldn't work.. Maybe it's just lingering feelings from my life... Like.. practice." she confessed, trying to sort the feelings in her heart. She had barely known anything about Ree and here she was suggesting they be more. She frowned, grabbing onto her arm again. "I... think all of that was meant for him anyway... I'm sorry that I made this... awkward..."
She listened to him explain a better, he'd likely never be her lover, something she honestly expected. "It's fine... It's fine, really. I expected this... But at least you understand my conflict a bit better.." she was pushing down he feelings hard, "I'd.. still like to be your sister... if you'll still have me..."
"I want... to separate you two in my mind..." she thought for a moment then nodded at herself with a deep breath. "Hey, maybe I can take you to the tree one day ... When I... Finally leave for good or something... Uhm.. If I can even remember where that is... " she looked at him and sighed, "Actually, how about this... I'll be your sister... And get to know each other... Uhm.. The real people... Not the two people who wont stop getting others killed... Just.. the real souls we are. And... When I separate, we can revisit that topic and maybe by then I'll have found someone else to feel for like that... Or maybe I won't. But we can just.. talk it out or something when the time comes...." she looked to him with sincerity in her eyes, "...at least give me that so I can figure it all out..." she tried to smile through her own heartbreak, "That way, in end you can say you knew the real me..."

Ree looked at her pained, the glow in his eyes and the cat dimmed in their own internal conflict as she not only tried to understand herself but also dragged out his own fears and personal conflicts as well.
On one side it made him feel guilty not giving her a better answer when she obviously wanted it and was staring at him with such pain. While on the other, he knew he wouldn't be what she needed because he wasn't even sure enough in himself on where he stood in terms of that subject. Sure he had girls flirt with him and he even flirted back but it never really passed on to anything more than for laughs. At least...that is what he thought?
He closed his eyes for a moment as he listened trying to think of some better answer than what he was just saying and really at loss for words. He wanted to leave and hide under his wings, wouldn't that be a great reaction? But one he couldn't indulge in any more.
Opening his eyes he looked back at her sadly. "I'll still have you as my sister. We can get to know each other and every one else .." He said quietly. "But I don't want you holding on to false hope. I really don't understand myself ..I even had an Kae a few days ago tell me not to go rushing into relations and children..." He tried to chuckle but only sighed. "We can see.. Only if you understand that it might likely be the same answer " maybe it had nothing with maturity...he didn't know, he just was never that attracted in that way to either gender or anyone at all.
"Will that work? In the mean time ... Sister and friend is good" a faint sad smile.

Ashral watched carefully at his expression, this was hard for him, probably made it worse by pushing the matter. She felt like a senseless idiot, couldn't just keep her mouth shut and accept the offer like any normal person. No, she always had to complicate everything. She sighed, looking away for a moment before she met eyes with him again, the sadness in his eyes hurt so much to look at, but she dare not look away. He still seemed to hold tightly to the notion of her just being his sister as he didn't want to give her false hope over her feelings, and mentioning that he was told not to rush into things... exactly what she had seemed to be doing. She nodded slowly, absorbing his words and what they meant.
We can see.. Only if you understand that it might likely be the same answer.
"I'm mature enough to understand that sometimes things don't work out the way we want them to.... I will accept whatever comes of it. Even if we reach the same answer in the end. But for now... I'd like to just be your sister." she offered. She had almost planned on playing it all off, getting defensive about the matter, blaming it on insanity and just moving on from the subject. But somehow, he was very cordial about the whole issue. Considering her feelings in the matter.. which was nice.
She then sighed closing her eyes then released her arm to stand a bit defensively, "Jeez, quit looking so sad about it. I'm old enough to get it... Maybe you are a better brother than something else." she forced a very small laugh, her expression looking playfully annoyed but her eyes still glinted in her own sadness. This was awkward now. "Well.. technically I'm older than you.. so that would make you my little brother..." she forced a devious grin, sliding her eyes to him as the emotions she felt about him seemed to fade away, covered by her own words and actions now. "Hey if you keep that sad face of yours, I'll be forced to tell more melancholy stories about my life.. give you a reason to be sad." she paused, frowning slightly. "Okay, that wasn't funny, I guess." she sighed then moved to find a rag, running it under water so she could start to clean up the mess she made, not really doing a good job, but at least she was trying. "....did you... want to know anything.. about me?.... I mean, my memories' a little hazy sometimes, but I can tell you about anything that I can remember..." she offered up, not looking at him as she focused on clean, beginning to hum the song softly to herself.

"Little brother?..." He repeated and made a face, grabbing on to the change of subject with both hands and not letting go. He had been surprised, very surprised to hear those mature words from her, he had been afraid of excatly the opposite reaction. Of using it as an escape to keep on hoping, pining without looking around to both their misfortunes. Her feelings were based on her brother..her real one. Keeping her under the floorboards for most of her life...he could almost understand why she would feel that way.
It was against his own personal views but at the same time what little she had said...made him wonder. It was none of his buisness and now..did it even matter when they were both who-knows-how-old and dead? Spirits that had no genetic make up at all? To many heavy thoughts many that he wanted to ask again but at the same time didn't, grabbing on instead to the oppertunity she presented for both of them to forget is momentarily.
"Are you sure you qualify as my older Sis? " he said shifting naturally to a more light mood, even if he still look sad and tired he managed to pull off a doubting look before smiling faintly "How old are you? When were you born? " this time he did smile, arming her against him with numbers just as easily as he could poke fun of how young she looked currently.

If there was anything they had common it's how hard they clung to such the smallest distraction from the earlier conversation. She move a hand to rest on her him, a grin forming wide on her lips almost playfully as he conflicted feeling washed away to the deeper part of her mind. She nodded in agreement to the statement. Yes, he would be a little brother as ironic as that seemed to be. "I think I do.. I'm much smarter and good looking too... Obiviously the superior sibling." she joked then sighed with a smile. "Okay, but honestly, I was born.. hmm..." she thought for a moment the gave him a date that happen well over 110 years ago. At least ten years before the Great War even occurred. She then began to count on her hands as though it was a difficult task to remember off the top of her head. "I was... nineteen when I died." she answered then looked to Ree with a face that showed more curiosity than anything else. "So I'm over twice your age..." she commented bluntly with a faint smile.
She paused for a moment, thinking as she closed her eyes for a moment, as if she was listening closely. Nodding slightly, she moved to the pantry and began to collect things, a package of spaghetti noodles, tomato sauce cans, and a few small bottle of spices. She set it all on the counter and dug through a cabinet for some pots. "So is there anything else you've always wanted to know about me." as she stuck her head in the cabinet to reach a pot in the back of it, she paused and was whispering to herself, her voice soft, distressed, then soft again, none of her words audible though. Shaking her head she climbed back out and filled the pot with water and set it on the campstove, waiting for the water to boil before she put the spaghetti in it. She was already preparing the sauce in a bowl to add once the spaghetti was cooked, almost as if she had a deep understanding of cooking. She seemed to not even be focused on the cooking itself as she just went through the motions.

"Now you're just pushing your luck. I at least have the better looks" preens while the Cat does the same thing, both their heads in the same position before he winced and lowered his hands, the pain was a dull throb now mostly from desensitization than actual healing.
"So 19 + how many other years since you were born to now? and sre you sure its Sis and not grandma? ...no.... great...great...quadruple great grandma?" he chuckled but it was a dull response compared to any other time if she knew him well. He was trying and only went silent as she asked him to ask another question. He had millions... he was also not sure which of them might set her off. "How about your parents? what were their names? and your brother? " since she said she didn't remember what she did to have her brother lock her up and maybe a clue there on why she hates Tri.
He blinked as he watched her set up a pot and start adding things together as if she knew what she was doing...a far cry of moments before. "Hexxis is awake?" he asked curiously as he look to the put of split peas he had on the stove and turned it around to check and finally turned off the fire. Well they will have food for a couple of hours. As long as he had food water and some energy he could do intermittent heals without worry.
