"Uh...Couple a'dumpsters up ahead, if ya want." Dawson blinked owlishly and let her do her thing, hands wringing themselves idly. "Guess you know what It is?"

The girl hurried to the dumpster, holding the paper away from her. She even went so far as to lift a garbage bag near the top and toss the paper down before settling the bag down on top of it. "I don't," she huffed out with a sigh, offering the man a wry smile. "But try not to touch them, it's like spiders walking on your grave."

The description was enough to make him rub the back of his neck. "Jesus," he muttered before motioning America to follow him once more, antsy to leave the area. "What, we got Wiccans r' somethin' about too?" That was totally what pagan people did, right? Curse stuff? "The fu-udge's with these Yanks, messin' with crap they ought not'a?"

"I don't think it's anything like that, hun," she reassures him. "'Sides those wicca ladies and the sort aren't mean to s**t, right? Like that's the whole deal...anyway, don't blame witches, you." And her voice was suddenly a little stern, out of nowhere. "They're nice people."

There's a thoughtful pause the length of two crosswalks back to back.
"I wouldn' know," Daws says eventually, hands in his pockets. "Don' think I ever met one." Another pause, a curious glance almost like a child. "You sayin' you a witch, Miss America?"

"naw," she waved that off like it was ridiculous. "But on the chance you do meet a witch hereabouts? Remember you manners, honey."

"Hrm. Guess I ain' exactly in a place t'judge anyways." Witch was leagues above car hobo.
They went another almost block before Dawson spoke again. "You met one?"

"I have," America nods. "She's good people." They reach an intersection and she smiles over at him. "Here's where I gotta head south and home, hun, unless you're heading the same way?"

"Oh, uh..." He'd had hopes of keeping her long enough to pull her into the bakery--somewhere cool and where Mrs. Potosi could fawn over the girl until she really did feel better. (He had his doubts.)
Hiding a crestfallen feeling behind a smile, Dawson held his hand out. "Nice t'meetcha then, America. Come bug me sometime at The Sweet Spot, aight? It's two more streets over from here, next t'where the Blockbuster used to be. Promise I'll come visit Darlene's too."

Taking his hand, her smile widens enough to crinkle at the edges of her eyes. "It's a deal Dawson. I'll stop by tomorrow even, be a shame to say no to a Sweet Spot or a sweet fellow." And here she gives him a big wink and a laugh before heading off. "See you then, hun!"
