"Depends," Jeremiah responded. "Words have power if you want them to. So a killing curse, in theory, could be used." A chilling thought at that. "... but what it would take from you, who knows. I've been coming here when I can to practice." He gave Autumn a wry look as they went down the stairs. There was not a lot of light for them to work with and the stairs looked as if they could give at any moment. The detective paused on the steps a moment and held a picture in his mind, a small point of light, something to guide them. Jeremiah snapped his fingers, breathed out - of all things - lumos, and a small orb of light hovered in the air where they walked. It was a soft illumination, just a few feet, but it was a show of it. It revealed that they would have to keep going down the stairs, access to the floor they would have reach sealed. The doors were completely boarded up.

While she had giggled initially at Jeremiah using Lumos (he was a ******** Harry Potter fan, she knew it, she'd been SO RIGHT), the sight of the boarded-up doors made the laughter die in her throat. Autumn had only been outside in Other Ashdown to date, but something about this seemed wrong. Like, really really wrong. A shiver ran down her spine, and she swallowed uneasily.
"The ******** does that mean?" She asked, turning to looking at Jeremiah. He'd know. He was the expert on this s**t.

Jeremiah shot Autumn a look at her laughter - don't say a word - but then the sight of the door also made him pause. It out of place but ... The small light hovered in the air, flickered and softly illuminated, while he approached. His hands rested on the wood for a moment before he was shaking his head. "I don't know. This honestly looks like the hospital has been long abandoned? Not ours at all ..." He turned, shoulders rolling to try and relieve some of the twinge he felt. At least the layers here helped out because it was getting colder in other ashdown as Ashdown got warmer. The small light he called out flickered to the steps that lead further down. "It's just the second floor, let's check the first, alright?"

"I was admittedly expecting a lot more... Anything, I guess," Autumn admitted quietly, put off by the abandoned looking hospital. Yeah. Definitely should not have looked up silent hill before getting into this. Any moment like, pyramid guy was gonna pop out and wreck her s**t. And she really was not feeling that right now. Forcing herself to breathe, Autumn kept a hold on Jeremiah and headed for the next floor down.
"How long have you been practicing magic?" She asked, desperate to fill the silence with anything. Well, perhaps not anything. Definitely not screams or other sounds of fear and agony. But pleasant conversation? That was a welcome diversion from her overwhelming unease.
"And what do you recommend practicing? Like. Defense s**t? Or what?"

Don't let him know you had looked into Silent Hill, Autumn, otherwise Jeremiah would have words for you. Such as: Now do you understand why we don't call it Otherworld? He gave her another reassuring squeeze, the light leading them down to the first floor. Eventually he would have to let it go, the detective felt more winded than he should have. The doors were hanging on the hinges and they could go through. This floor looked like vines had started to grow into the place. "About as long as you've been aware of all of this." Jeremiah snorted. "... as for practicing, I'm actually focusing more on defensive for the moment. Defense first, offense after I know what's going on." At least so far.

Abandoned and overgrown. It honestly felt like the atmosphere of this place was telling them to ******** all the way off, and Autumn shuddered a bit. Spooky. The forest had been eerie, sure, but the hospital had hopped the nearest train to Unpleasantville, and she was definitely picking up some sick vibes from this place. And not the cool-sick, either. Like genuine sickness and death sick.
"I'll definitely pick up some lessons from you on defensive s**t. I could honestly use it," Autumn mused aloud, thinking back to her experiences with Other Ashdown thusfar. Not that she was being super defensive right now, heading into an abandoned hospital and all.
Seriously. She was gonna kick Chris's a** when she got home.

"I'll teach you what I can," Jeremiah replied immediately. There was no doubt, no moment where he would not consider it. "We'll just have to make time at some point." Since he had work again and Autumn had work and ... Well. other ashdown waited for no one. He thought for a moment to teach her something but he froze. The light illuminated something ahead of them on the path. It no longer looked like a shadow, instead it looked almost ... "Is that a spider?" Whatever it was seemed to take notice and skittered down the hallway away from them.

At the sight of the thing, Autumn pulled both herself and Jeremiah after it, which was fairly impressive considering her size. The subject of her kickboxing had not come up between them, but whatever. If they talked about it, they talked about it. If not... oh well. No skin off her back. What WAS skin off her back, however, was this mess of shadows that the hospital was throwing at her.
"If we catch it," Autumn huffed, "we might be able to figure out what the hell is going on!"

Jeremiah was not entirely surprised, he was used to people shorter than him with strength (read: Algie) tugging him hard. He went easily and chased after it with her. It skittered under a door and the detective tried to stop her as she pushed and continued to tug. It was hazy, he could tell that it would take them right back to Ashdown. "Autumn, wait, that's -" The moment Autumn's foot was through the door, she was tugging Jeremiah into an empty staff office.

...This was not Other Ashdown. At all. Autumn frowned severely, looking around. But how had it changed so ******** quickly? She was not used to this, like. At all. Even with Rosalinde, it took time to find exits. It wasn't just Bibbidi Bobbidi ******** your s**t, not like this. She blinked owlishly, and this... really looked like somewhere they weren't supposed to be. At ******** class="quote">azuredreams

Jeremiah did not say anything, instead he was rubbing a hand across his face and letting out a sigh. It felt, suddenly, like they were very much not wanted there. "We can look again," he offered quietly, "but it's been my experience that ... I'll likely not be able to find anything again." Not around here, that they would have to look outside of the hospital.

"Yeah," Autumn said quietly, bowing her head. "Yeah." It figured. The glimmer of a lead, and it was gone. Typical. There was frustration bubbling in her throat, how utterly worthless she was (again, her mother tells her, you just can't ever do what's expected of you,)
"We'll try again later. Thanks, chief," she finished lamely, hurrying out of the room before they got forcefully ejected.
So much for that.
