Ree rested his face against his hand, eyes closed as he tried to dredged up the courage to ...do something....or at least go after Tri and check after her. He almost killed her again trying not to get Ashral riled up even more, no win situation there.
Fingers slowly ran through white hair as he lowered his head, grief threatened to overwhelmed him as he struggled to hold back tears.Darn it...just ...darn it! He raised his other hand and clasped it on the other side of his head, fingers gently digging into the base of the metal that was apart of him.
The light tap dragged his attention up to the window and his eyes, barely glowing at all, focused on the phone with a hint of confusion. He stared at it as it shifted Pulse...heart beat....yellow .....yellow .....name: Hexxis...alive.
Eyes widening he pushed himself away from the bed, rushing to his feet and out the door. "Kae!" His voice cracked slightly as he moved into the hallway, staring outward wings shaking and he wasn't quite sure why. He stared at both the elf and the human...then remembered Ashral...Hexxis and Tri's faced when he thought he had killed her again.
"They are alive?" He voice sounded strained as he looked after the phone in Kae's grip. I want to know.. " he swallowed, pulling at the memory of Ashral and her assumption of him... How the malice had moved to him instead of any one else..how he had seen Hexxis near Tri once. " what you both want to do with Hexxis...and Ashral. " his voiced strengthen slightly, she was alive ..they were alive. Barely...for now.
"Ashral made a deal with me.... " he took a shaky breath, wanting to stop all of this. The backstabbing, the attempted killings, what ever they just did now to her. " and until she breaks it I am planning to keep my end of it ... whether I am allowed to or not. " this time he looked toward Mara in challenge before looking back at Kae. " meaning I will protect her....she's mine " a hint of a growl as the light in his eyes flared back up again.
He didn't consider her property, family, or even a friend but perhaps a possible partner. Someone who might eventually watch his back as he watch hers...a competent person who might be a friend . Even if she was a malice that tried to kill his own father twice, she was also the only one who even came close to answering the restlessness he always felt.
It was not something he even noticed until seeing her all crazed in that room asking for someone named Shogu. She could feel, love, she was still a person somewhere deep in all that hate. He would likely die for it but he had agreed and he was going to try and make that agreement work both ways.
---
"That's her inhibitor readings? " she said staring after Kae, dropping for the moment the current conversation as she stared, darn it...how could she forget?Hexxis...Ash keeping her alive. This was the reason she choose such a late date but never expected it to have to use it. Listening as Kae spoke she found a bit of comfort in what she said and the read out turning yellow, even if it was small...until Ree came out.
Damn it...why did he pick now to confront them? Why couldn't he just let it go for now? Much less challenge her now when she was force to respond. "Damn it Ree... How stupid can you be.." She stared at him emotionally tired, angry sad..confused and scared. She just didn't want to handle this right now.

Kae halted as her name was called, slowly turning back around to meet his distressed look with her own remorseful one. "Well.. Yes. She's stable though her heartbeat is on the weaker side, but it looks like she'll be fine." she offered, trying to put his mind at ease about Hexxis and Ashral. She listened as he began to challenge them.. no, Mara? Her eyebrows lowering in concern but ultimately tilted her head reflexively as a look of confusion crept in on her face. She was ready to start an argument over this, she knew this was reckless of him, stubborn even. Defiant and somehow loving. She's mine. Those words chilled her to the core as her eyes widened in a combination of fear and longing. She couldn't contest it, she simply couldn't. Kae looked as though she could cry as she placed a hand on her forehead and lowered her head to cover her face as she spoke. "You would choose the hard way, wouldn't you?" she sighed, barely collecting herself. "Looks like she will likely keep her end of the deal, so I don't see any harm in that. However, I don't know how that might affect you as far as SIU goes. They may not see it that way, and Mara is just trying to make sure you stay safe in all this. So until Ashral leaves that's pretty much the fact of it all. Now....." she lowered her hand, a stern look on her face once more, unwavering and strong. "If you are looking to absolve her... If she resolves why she's still lingering before she separates from Hexxis, Ashral will disappear forever. Just like you see in movies... But if she's separated by the time she's resolved, then she may have a second chance at life. I know that's probably exactly what you're looking for... But it's not only dangerous but difficult. You risk a lot trying to save her. If you just want to protect her, then that's fine. She will not remember anything of what took place this evening, even if you tell her, the memories will never come to her. So you still have a chance to just... act as normal, fulfill the contact, and be on your merry way." Kae kept her gaze with Ree and took a shaky breath as though she were scared but her face showed otherwise. "I will help you with whatever it is you want to do with Ashral, but if Mara says no, that's that. Besides, most of what I can provide is information anyway. So take that into consideration." She looked from Mara to Ree again. "What do you want to do with Ashral exactly? Let us understand what you are intending and why you care so much to protect a malice that could very well kill you... And almost killed your own father twice..." she asked, adjusting her glasses idly as she spoke, a twinge of pain in,her voice of only barely.

As he watched Kae he couldn't help the flicker of confusion that crossed his face. The longing...the fear as she covered it up in her hands, what did he do? or who did he remind her of? It was just like when they went out to dinner oh so long ago, was he reminded her of that unknown person again? He couldn't help that, he was as he was...just as Mara said stupid and reckless and still wanting to fight over it.
As Kae continued to speak his own confusion became more pronounced, until he was the one who had to close his eyes. Of course she would ask the hard questions, he would as well, now if he only had some answer that showed that it wasn't an instinctive knee jerk, that he wasn't stubborn for the heck of it. The problems was that he hadn't been able to gather his own thoughts on the matter. What he was certain of was that he wanted them to stop what they were doing -now-, not find them experimenting on Ashral or even Hexxis again in such a way.
"That's the point " he lifted and ran his hand through his hair, finally opening his eyes again sadly. "-I- don't want to do anything with her. If she absolves that is likely the best thing that can happen to her. " and he meant that, he could not even guess how torturous an existance it was being a Malice.. being held down by the chains of your own emotions and actions. "If she seperates...I want to give her at least.. " there was a struggle as he tried to find the right word. " an anchor, a second chance. If she doesn't accept I will help hunt her down just like everyone else " he sighed shakily but with resolve.
"In those moments before she ..went to sleep" this time he winced and looked away from them for a second before snapping his gaze back to them as if realizing he couldn't act like he usually did, couldn't let the fear or guilt win at the moment.
"She was ...lost. Yet still genuinely cared, worried...loved and not to an obsessive length despite what it was she was hallucinating. Tri might not have been able to be what she is subconsciously looking for, he might be one of the problems, She wanted to be believed even remembered the dea-..no .." He paused. " she held on to her honor, her view of things when I asked. Tell me Kae...how many Malices still remember that..or carry it so close to the surface? I am not generalizing Malices just analyzing -this- one. I want to help, if she lets me. I want to try and be her friend...her brother... without having to worry about finding either of you experimenting on them behind our backs. " this time he narrowed his eyes slightly at them while feeling as stupid as Mara though he was. "There is enough of -that- everywhere else " this time he voice was firm as he looked between them. -----
Mara narrowed her eyes, Sh** Sh** Sh**. Anger, fear...her two personas raising up and clashing. One wanting to keep him safe while the other finding this absolutely perfect. This was what Tri has been hinting at before wasn't he? She was having her family fight in something that could likely kill them. The renegades were ready to die...they weren't? With more children being added to the group and Tri attempting to teach them...they were trying to make more of a family then a unit. Once that could easily splinter apart with the first or second death. They didn't come here with the same mentality the Renegades did. She wasn't recruiting with the same mentality either..and now the was conflicted between both...wanting to pull Ree out of this. Send him away from here for the rest of his life or allow him to try and tame a malice.

Kae was listening, but something was edging at the back of her mind, some kind of familiarity that only made her increasing confused about the whole matter. As he spoke, she could hear the hope in his words, so much that even she was begining to sympathize with his want to help her, letting go of any reason behind how these things worked. Just hopeful for deviation, for a chance at something different. She was on board with the idea within a guilt-ridden mind to please the flickering mirror of her own daughter. How many malices still remember that.. or carry it so close to the surface. That sentence alone was enough to completely flip her compassion into an anger that had built up below the surface of her remorse, something that had been laying dormant for decades. Her eyes turned to fury, burning hot with something she hadn't felt in a very long time. "What am I even saying, this is absurd. Ree, this is crazy! You need to listen to me right now, because I don't why I could possibly tell you with any form of confidence that she can anything other than a malice. What you saw this evening was not what you seem to think it is. Do you know what a residual apparition is? It's when a memory replays over and over via a spectral anomaly. What that means is that Ashral reliving her memories aren't part of her personality. She's dead. She's not a meta, she's not anything but a memory of a girl who died a very long time ago. With that said, you need to understand how dangerous all of this is. Making deals with malices is dangerous. It will get you killed. She can't be saved and she can't be befriended. And even if you could manage to pull a miracle out of your sleeve and try to give her an anchor, if she doesn't accept... What are you seriously going to shoulder the responsibility of everyone she will probably kill when she's separated? You can barely carry the consciousness of one death, what of hundreds as she turns into something like Obscurite or Kagyaku? Do you think this is a game, Ree? Because it's not. You have people that love you and don't want to see you end up dead because you mistook an image for the real thing." she was yelling, anger boiling to the brim as tears could be faintly seen about her eyes, though she dare not let them come. "Experimenting on Ashral is no different than taking a thermal scan or a recording of a disembodied voice. She is a spirit. She isn't real, and she certainly isn't an ally. You might have coerced her into obeying you for the time being, but as she gets stronger... something that you are only going to help her do... it's only going to make her that much more powerful when she's out. Do what you want with her to help you sleep at night, but understand the only one that matters is Hexxis and if we can find answers to eventually rid her of Ashral, then that's what's necessary. You are real, Hexxis is real, Ashral is not." she clenched her teeth, her hands balled up into fists as her right hand gripped her phone hard. "You wanted to know if malices still remember their honor and carry it? Well, here's the truth. They do. Two malices were so honor bound by a deal they conspired to kill my daughter. And the details seem to be a bit hazy... but there's a possibility they succeeded. But what's important about that is that yes, they can make a deal, yes they can keep their word, but a malice is just that... a malice. A negative spirit lingering in this world with only an intent to harm others and bring chaos to this world. So I want you to think really long and hard about that. So that when you inevitably decide to disobey and betray the one person risking her damn neck to protect you, I know you weren't entirely insane when you chose that path." she turned on her heel angrily and began to walk down the hall again, her hands were trembling as she choked back tears. No, not yet. There's no way she'd show that much weakness here and now, even if she'd already seemed to lose quite a bit of control of her emotions. Maybe that was for the best to get her point across.

He was not expecting her sadness to switch into anger nor for it to explode so suddenly. His wings shifted uneasily then lowered faintly as she talked, an unconscious indication of his own mood and thoughts that he was feeling guilty even as he opened his mouth to defend on at least one point then closed it because that was...still spot on. He had never killed..never wanted to and Hexxis's death has haunted him since the accident. He wasn't even sure if Kage, Andy or even Blaise's death might not have done the same. Even Blaise who gave him a bad feeling had been furious at him for Hexxis's death while holding her in her arms.
His wings lowered completely to the ground as he let out a soft sigh. He was going to hunt Ashral after she left...what other option did they have? He could break the deal and then what? It was back to her trying to kill everyone and getting out much faster. Or holding on to the deal and prolonging her time in Hexxis. He didn't even know if he could manage a death blow on purpose....but he would try somehow.
He just didn't want them experimenting on her, not when it seemed like ...something could happen? Wasn't experimenting on a spirits almost like using a new scape goat other than metas?
Experimenting on Ashral is no different than taking a thermal scan or a recording of a disembodied voice. She is a spirit. She isn't real
Ree froze then slowly lifted as he lifted his head. A look of disbelief was etched on his face as she stared at her. A recording? Does a recording think or change their minds? Realize they were wrong and modify things to be better? This was nothing better than an excuse to experiment on them, or make them less than sentient because it makes the person doing it feel better. Like other labs we're currently doing to metas.
Killed her daughter? No...that would explain it really. The cold look faded slightly as he lifted his hand to run it through his hair in frustration. He didn't ask for the deal much less coerced it out of her, he took it because it would stop her from trying to kill Tri, from going out of control when ever she saw blood and just separating at the most inoppertune moment and killing them all. The deal sounded good.... Other than she could break it when she pleased.
"I'm real...." He lifted his hand as a piece of black cloth materialized in it and he stared intently before looking up at her. "If a spirit is nothing but a recording why do we fear it...why do they gain bodies? Why are they logical, learn and change. " his voice taking on a hint of ice.
"Kae...I didn't ask what lets you sleep at night. I am asking that neither of you experiment on them. The deal is done, it is what ...kept us alive in there. It is why she isn't already out in her own body. Making the deal is what is keeping her there as well, not my want for power or naive hope. What I said is what I will be doing. If there was a way to get rid of a malice, I have the utmost confidence you would have already told us how already. Short of killing Hexxis herself that is" He tighten his hand on the piece of cloth as he watched Kae head down the corridor, he made no movement to chase after her. Ignoring Mara's calculating look as she stared at both of them without interfering, something that should have sent warning bells in his head if he was not feeling so confused right now with different emotions.
