The congratulations made him blush harder than ever. "T-thank you," Emrys mumbled, glancing away automatically; but it could not have been clearer that his affections for his fiance were one of the strongest things about him, a little smile on his face.
It faded as the memories - or rather, lack thereof - of the Negaverse came back to him. Emrys could not recall what had happened, but he knew the haunted look in Hitch's eyes, knew that the nightmares that tore him awake in the middle of the night had to do with what had happened. He'd told him of some; of the kidnapping, of the fight, of the anger, the pain.
Hitch remembered it all. He carried the burden of those memories.
Athene's voice was quiet, straightforward. Emrys raised his head and glanced over at him, at the awkwardly raised hand meant to offer comfort, and even though it never made contact, he felt warmth in his chest because of it.
I think that anyone who makes that choice is brave, personally.
He felt it hit him, felt the expanse of shock travel throughout him. Emrys had been called a lot of things in his life, but brave?
Brave was not one of them.
His mouth opened and closed, and for a moment, Emrys just stared at Athene, his heart hammering in his chest. He felt the color rise in his cheeks, but for once didn't try to duck away, blinking rapidly, because of course emotions were something he had never been successful at hiding.
"M-My fiance remembers," he said achingly, after a long moment. "He's - he's a senshi, he fought me while I was Negaverse, and I don't remember, but he does, and he has to carry that with him, and I - "
He stopped, sucking in a sharp breath, and said shakily, "I want to make him proud. I want to erase those memories with better ones, with ones that will make him realize that what he and my brother did - purifying me - was the right decision."litian ATHENE IS GREAT OKAY ;o; <333

"I don't know the ins and out of purification" Athene said, "but the fact that you're here and that you're you suggests that it was the right decision" and whilst he couldn't speak for Emrys' brother or fiancé, he couldn't help but think that the two would think the same. He smiled and his small smile was gentle as he said quietly "But it sounds like you have your something important to fight for" and it was a good one - a really good one. And then because Emrys had shared his, he contined "My something is to help those who are new to this - senshi and knight both." His quiet voice turned rueful "I had to pretty much stumble-learn my way through being a senshi and it's not something that I'd wish on anyone and so I do my best to share what I've picked up over my time as a senshi." There was more to it than just that, including the senshi that had saved his life and to whom Athene kind of owed it to do what he could to help the newbies, however he also truly believed that there needed to be more to it than to - as had been in his case - given a henshin pen and get told to go and fight monsters and protect soul crystals.

He flushed a little with a mixture of embarrassment and pleasure, Emrys glancing shyly away. Athene may have been a senshi and not a knight like he was, but it didn't matter. He seemed to know what to say to make him feel as though what had happened to him mattered, and that alone was enough.
He looked back at him. "I do," said Emrys, and he thought of Hitch and of Fritz and everything that they had done for him. "I have something that I need to protect, and I'll do what I can to do that."
It was the first thing he'd said with as much conviction, Emrys shifting slightly as he listened to what Athene was saying. A small laugh escaped him, a little surprised, as he said, "I think that's a very - a very good thing to fight for. I was able to have...er, my two, what with my fiance and my brother...but I know how hard it must be for those who don't have anyone."
He paused and then said tentatively, flushing a little, "I think - I think you'd be a very good guide. You're very kind."

[Athene nodded as Emrys agreed with his quiet statement hearing the determination in the taller Squire's voice as he talked about having something to protect. And then it was his turn to flush at the - to him - unexpected compliment, his cheeks reddening as he fought the urge to duck his head awkwardly as he said quietly "Thank you, I try." And tried was the operative word, because Athene knew his limitations. He wasn't a fighter like some - or fancy at speaking like others... And he lacked the open warmth that Ida had had. But he tried not to let his shortcomings prevent him from doing his best to go out and help those new to the war in his small way - because to him it was important - was the path he had decided on as a senshi. Thoughts of Ida brought with them the familiar sadness because Athene couldn't help but think that his friend would have liked Emrys. He knew that he certainly did - for all that it was his first time meeting the Neptune Squire and perhaps it was what had him saying what he said next. "I have classes in the morning and so I will probably have to head home soon, but would you be interested in perhaps patrolling with me some time?" Adding "Although I should probably warn you that I live with a mauvian who may or may not decide to invite himself along." It was an impulsive offer from someone who tended not to be - but Athene was quietly sincere in it.

It felt rather nice, being with Athene. He was an easy sort of person to get along with, which Emrys needed after everything that had happened. That sort of quiet reassurance was something that he was not used to (Celsus and Eurydike were both larger than life sometimes, to put it mildly), and it was like a breath of fresh air.
"Ah, yes, I'm sorry for keeping you out so late," said Emrys hastily now, slightly flustered. He shifted from one foot to the other, hoping he hadn't made a mess of things - but Athene had spoken before he could start over thinking everything once again.
His mouth opened, then shut again, and a flush of pleasure seeped color onto his cheeks.
"I would - I would like that very much, I think," Emrys said, taken aback but utterly gratified by the offer. A small, shy smile touched his face, and he looked quite pleased to be considered in the first place. "I don't mind, er, cats - I mean, I'm a little allergic, but not enough that it would bother me if he came along. And I haven't met any mauvians yet," he added. "So it might be good to start."
He shifted again, then said softly, "Thank you very much, Athene."

"There's no need to apologise" Athene said. "It's been nice talking" and whilst he wasn't sure how much help he'd been to Emrys, the Neptune Squire had been pleasant company. "Great," smiling at Emrys' acceptance of his offer, Athene rummaged for and found the biro that he taken to taking out with him, his smile turning rueful as he'd admitted "This would probably be easier if senshi and knight communication methods talked to each other, but hopefully this will do in a pinch." 'This' turned out to be the cardboard hand protector from the take out cup that he'd been scribbling on as he spoke. "Feel free to give me a call whenever." kuropeco sorry that this took so long Kuro - we should be able to wrap this on next tags... Also at some point Athene needs to find out that senshi and knight communication methods can talk to each other xD

When was the last time he'd even had a friend outside of Fritz or Hitch? It was hard to remember, but Emrys was feeling a bit warm around his face, pleased and nervous and excited all at the same time. He tried to remember to not look awkward, however, as he stood in front of Athene.
"It's...been very nice," he said, flushing slightly. "You've been very kind."
He took the offered cardboard, laughing a little as Emrys said, "Thank you; and yes, it would be...much easier if communication between the two of us was, er...simpler."
He'd have to ask Fritz later if there was a faster method of communication. Emrys gave another nod.
"It's been a pleasure, Athene."

"It has" Athene said, "Have a good rest of the evening Emrys." His hand raised in a small wave and then he slipped away. Perhaps he would ask Liryn at some point about the senshi-knight thing, he mused quietly to himself as he headed homewards and ask him to ask around his mauvian contacts... Although that was something to ponder another evening, when he didn't have to get up first thing the next day for class. kuropeco and tag and fin from me - thank you for playing smile
