It didn't take much to calm him, and to be truthful, Rabbit was more nervous than frustrated so it took even less. At the end of his outburst, he gave purse-guarding woman a bit of side-eye when she smacked at him, ducking under her offered umbrella with a shrug. Half of his body remained outside of its range so as not to crowd her and the other guy she waved over.

"Thanks." He wasn't paying much attention to what was going on with those at the front of the pack, which was why he jumped when everyone started screaming. Or just two people, whatever. What in the hell was happening? Rabbit squinted, looking between the shoulders and arms of those gathered in front of him.

"It's a foot. Stop crying like a ********' baby. Spank your inner moppet, woman." Alexis stalked over to Autumn, stepping precisely over the ground, shoulders tense. "You have one - one foot -in each of yer shoes right now, shocker. You want to figure out how to go home? Calm the ******** down."

Alexis, at least, seemed otherwise unruffled. Their annoyance was more at everyone else than the fact there was a missing girl's foot being half-flung around like a hot potato.

(There was still rainwater gathered in their hair. They looked young enough to be one of the missing ones, for a second. Then it was gone.)

"Jesus christ.." If his ear tips were pink from the awkward bumping and touching, it was gone after seeing a severed foot. His face twisted into disgust though Algie's hand flattened against Jeremiah's back to release him and urge him forward.

Corpses were for the police present.

He had covered his mouth a bit with his hand, and when Jeremiah stepped away he served as a proper gossip for the rest of the group.

"A severed foot-" He glanced back at the closest people, "It's a bloody foot." He repeated to those who wondered.

Cataleen had quietly followed the group under the canopy of the evergreens. All of her attention had been for the native plant life, quietly wondering if there was any difference between these plants and the ones in the normal Ashdown.

Her musings had been interrupted by the grisly discovery. She caught a glimpse of it as it arced through the air, the sight hitting her in the guts. But she didn't scream. More death. She was so tired of death.

Cataleen averted her eyes as others examined the foot, and instead joined the woman trying to comfort the poor girl who'd picked that body part up. She rummaged in her pockets for a second, pulling out a small bottle of Vanilla scented hand sanitizer, and offered it to her, placing her other hand gently on Asiya's shoulder. If it had been Cataleen who'd found it, she knew she'd want to clean her hands!

"Yeah sure sure. I'm Brianna by the by. Brie for short, since we're in this wonderful city of.." The trek through muddy forest just gave her even more fuzzy arm feelings and she made a ick sound as the mud squished underneath her shoes. She didn't mind if both young men joined her, and scooted herself smaller into the space to keep herself dry.

Augh this was the worst, worst, worst.

She jumped, only when Rabbit did and then turned a head jerk over to the shocked amount of group before hearing the slow trickle words of, 'severed foot'.

"I don't wanna see it at all!" She shifted to keep her view discreetly away from anybodies severed anythings. and for safe measure, her hand came up to cover Rabbit's vision. "Don't bring that over here!!"

Leila gingerly accepted the foot with a rare air of professionalism, and squatted down on the ground some so she could concentrate on giving it a look... not that there was a whole lot to see. The rain and the forest cover were making it too damn dark, and since she had gone out not expecting to do any sort of fieldwork she hadn't brought a proper flashlight. All the squinting she could do wasn't going to reveal much.

On an off thought she reached into a pocket for her keychain, which had among a few other bits and bobs a tiny novelty flashlight she almost never used because its dim LED was only good for finding the key slot in her car door. Even so, she gave the button a firm squeeze, and--

"Whoa, what the ******** was surprisingly bright, enough to illuminate the foot's ragged stump in complete horrible detail. That shouldn't have been possible. Whatever. She gathered up her bearings enough to see if there was anything going on with it that she would recognize. The suddenly-photobooth-quality light of her little trinket could be a puzzle to mull over later.

The blonde girl holding the umbrella and the dark young man with the sodden hoodie both seemed a bit jumpy, and really Tory couldn't blame them. He was a bit jumpy himself, though it was safely hidden behind the "sweetly stupid" outer mask he automatically adopted whenever he was around people he didn't know.

"Hi Brie, I'm Tory," he nodded with a small smile. He himself didn't mind the rain, even though his flannel shirt was becoming soaked and his dreadlocks dripping wet; he was used to working outdoors in adverse conditions, and all things considered this rain wasn't too bad. Apart from adding to the creepy mood, of course. Still, he probably should have grabbed his rain slicker before he left his apartment.

He wasn't paying much attention to what was going on in front of them, mentally comparing the forest he knew with this eerie place, so he nearly jumped out of his skin when a couple of people screamed. "What the hell was that!" He stood on tiptoe, craning his neck to try to see.

Immediately he wished he hadn't. "Oh god…" A severed foot. What was going on?

Asiya's head was spinning, and it was all she could do to fight off visibly wobbling thanks to the vertigo. The scene that was playing out seemed to be on mute for the young woman, at least for a few seconds. The screams of Autumn didn't fully register in her head. Instead, she just kept playing back to pulling the foot out of the ground.

It was a foot.

Not a prop from a movie. Not a toy.

An actual human foot.

The artist could taste the bile in the back of her throat, but she did her best to keep it at bay. As she did this, the words of other people came to her ears, and she perked up when others spoke to her. The first one was Jeremiah, kindly reminding her to calm down and take a deep breath. Asiya would do just that, pausing to take a few inhalations and exhalations of air.

In.

Out.

In.

Out.

There. That seemed to help a bit. With a look of thanks in her eyes, she gazed over to the detective and nodded her head to him in response. She would have said more, but frankly, at the moment, she was at a loss for words. Perhaps they would come back to her later, but for the moment, she wasn't going to do much speaking.

Kalisha spoke to her next, asking her if she was okay. All she could do was nod to the other girl, her expression grim. The offer of a hug was not only a comforting one, but also one that she almost took the other girl up on. The fact that she wasn't familiar with Kalisha, however, is the only thing that held her back. If she knew the girl better, then she absolutely would have said yes. But for now, she just shook her head at the offer of being held. Another time?

It was then that Cataleen offered Asiya some hand sanitizer, which was also very generous of her. While it wasn't the cleansing process of wudu, the vanilla scented goop would have to do. The artist silently held out her hands for some of the product, and then murmured a quiet, "...Thank you." in response.

Huh -- so she was able to speak again, after all?

Aleksy watched the foot sail through the air. His guts rolled, because of course they did. It was a foot. He'd sold flowers to that girl's mother. If the foot was... real, anyway.

He moved closer to Jeremiah and Leila, peering at the severed limb. "It's a clean cut," he offered.

If Kalisha was bothered by the refusal, nothing showed of it. At least Asiya seemed to be calming down, which was the important part right now. So when the other girl shook her head, she started rummaging though her bag.

Phone... Keys.... Needle nose pliers... (What the hell were those doing here, anyway... ?) ...ah ! Some luck on her side, after all. Another girl had come forward with what lookd like hand sanitizer (good idea, holy s**t) and when Asiya was done, she would find an unopened water bottle waiting for her.

Her only one, but hey. Asiya needed it quite a bit more than she did at the moment. "I don't like this place..." you don't say ? Well, Kalisha had no idea what she was even supposed to say right now.

So.

Yeah.

Jeremiah was making sure that there was space enough around Leila to work, that she was not getting crowded. He glanced over to Aleksy and gave him a short nod. If the young man wandered closer, he would be allowed - but that had everything to do with his closeness with Leila. "That's what it looks like."

Looking over at Leila as he was walking a small circle around her just in case there was anything else on the ground, he asked, "Anything else you can tell, Doctor Townhome?"

Damn that light was bright. "Recent?" The next question was added because he sincerely hoped it was recent. Not ... weeks ago.

In the sharp light of Leila's keychain flashlight, three things are immediately noticeable:

Firstly, that it's a clean cut, with no hesitations. Like a limb severed by a butcher.

Secondly, that there's too much blood (pooling inside the Converse sneaker, staining the fabric, coloring the mud a dull brick color) for the foot to have been severed post-mortem.

Thirdly, it doesn't seem to have decayed at all. There are no bugs to be seen, not even larva.

It didn't hit Chris quite at first and he stared dumbly at the foot, his brain trying to catch up. There was a multitude of things he'd been expecting, but all of them had been far, far from a body part and especially not one from one of the missing kids. Even if this place was creepy it wasn't literally a horror movie, he had thought.

He was absolutely wrong.

Autumn was quicker to react than him and his arms curled around her reflexively as she buried her face in his chest. Mindlessly he rubbed her back with one hand, burying his face in his hair as he tried not to cry, to throw up, to feel anything. Oh god that was helidora's shoe, her foot, what the hell.

"Shh, shh, we'll get home, mahaken da pepeldomoon," He muttered softly as she began to cry, eventually devolving into more korean that was mostly intended to comfort. (And if he cried a little into Autumn's hair too, well that was for him and her hair to know, okay?)

It was short lived though and Chris lifted his head up, scowling down at whoever had decided to given Autumn s**t (and never had he been more thankful for his height than at that moment).

"God, have some ******** empathy would you? Not all of us exactly have experience in dealing with ******** body parts," He sneered, "So if you could give her a minute to actually calm down, we'll be great!"

Leila looked back up at Jeremiah, offering a soft asymmetrical grin. "Recent! Couldn't have been here more than a few hours, especially given the rain. If she's good with her first aid she could still be alive."

"Oh, suck it up, Romeo -" and their voice was scathing (and Alexis knew they were getting angry, could feel it like a distant thunderstorm) - "You won't live forever, either. It's not like we didn't already know Winters was probably dead as a doornail. If she's around, she's permanently crippled, and that means she's useless for the rest of her life." There was so much unreasonable vitriol behind 'useless' that it was practically a physical thing. "We don't all have the capacity to lose our minds when it's not a good time to do it, thank-you-very-much."
