-- they knew that voice. Well. Vaguely, at least. Vespertine Price had left a good impression, which was about as positive as first meetings ever got with Alexis -- and her presence did confirm one thing: either this wasn't a dying dream, or they'd both been murdered and there was an afterlife after all.
God, if that was the case, Alexis was going to be so pissed. They'd spent the last couple of years actively avoiding religious action. Purgatory? This was a shitty ******** purgatory.
"...Price? Alright, good, so this means either we're both dead and purgatory is our shitty city or this is the best thing that's ever happened to me." There was a genuine smile on Alexis' face, rain drip-dropping down onto their shoulders. "The rain's nice. Don't get it like this a lot. Maybe I'm a skeptic, but if this is some sorta dream...I'm not too worried about waking up, y'know?"

Marcus- Outside the town hall (Open to interaction)
Five seconds after opening the door, Marcus debated the use of taking his Bike into town. Rain was normal sure, but he didn't like the idea of having to get wet. Much let getting wet on his usually bike ride into town and errands. It just made for a terrible experience all around.
That's when he got the feeling. It was the sort of persistent nag that came with deja vu and the paranoia that you left the stove on even though the last time you cooked something was well over a day ago. Freezing in place, Marcus pulled out from his coat what looked like a modified taser, (because thats what it was), and looked outside him home for anything suspected. He also took out a pair of binoculars from the entry way to check the skyline.
Nothing but clouds and rain.
Still, he pocketed his binoculars, put on a poncho, (it was light blue and had 'Mixfest '15' in neon yellow on the back) and grabbed his bike, timidly making his way into town checking every 10 trees to see if he was being followed, (he was not being followed).
It wasn't right, (less right than what was the usual not right that Marcus's paranoia felt), and he was supposed to be picking up permits for a small public fountain as well as commercial building down at the town hall. Getting there however, proved to be both terrifying, (due to paranoia) and unplesant, (due to the rain).
Once he arrived-
"Nope. No. I knew that the building being put by the old railroad was a bad idea. We we're supposed to avoid it. Nope. This was a mistake and now-" He started muttering to himself as he arrived to the town hall, looking around to see if anyone might have answers.
He doubted it, guessing they also had offended some kind of supernatural spirit.

"I sure hope we're not both dead," Ves said with a shiver. "This'll be a long afterlife in this place if we are." She squinted through the mist, tossing a cautious glance over her shoulder. Something just felt so very off about this entire ordeal. And as oddly reassuring as it was that Alexis didn't seem too put off by the rain, Ves couldn't help but feel inexplicably tense. "Don't you feel like something's just... got its eyes on you?" She said finally. "Feels like we're trespassing somewhere." But at least they weren't alone. Ves could spot other figures huddled against the rain, walking - wandering maybe - through the streets. Some equally lost souls to fill this suddenly deserted town.

Brianna hated rain. Everything about it. The way it darkened the skies, the way it turned perfectly fine dirt into some icky mess called mud. She hated the way it gathered and gathered and gathered, forming into puddles and into small lakes in parking lots. She had gone out with the intention of buying more supplies for her new room project. Fairy lights in little jars and instead, she was hanging under some over hang of a building she didn't even know.
No umbrella, but thankfully not wet. It had been lucky for her that she found it so soon after going out. What weirded her out the most was like...no activity from the places. Like there was no lights turned on, no flicker of open signs.
It was also so dead quiet.
"This is insane!" She looked up at the sky, angrily cursing the clouds. "Why don't you STOP raining so I can move on?!!?"

"Spending the afterlife with a pretty girl wouldn't be too bad, I don't think." Their smile was lazy but razor-edged. The comment? Calculated, but not too far. Alexis liked to think they knew what they were doing.
Sometimes that was more dubious than others. Those were bad times.
"You don't feel like this all the time...? People're always watching. The thing is -- there's nobody here. So it's alright. Nerves, from endin' up...wherever this is, maybe. I've been dreaming about this place." The words just came spilling out unconsciously. "Y'know, not with people in it, but -- the rain. The empty streets. Best dreams I've ever had."

At the sound of the woman's voice, clear as a bell, Finn looked around. She was easy to spot, blonde and peach against the surrounding gray. "Hey," he called back, jogging over to her. "I'm Finn." He'd never seen another person in the Otherworld besides himself or Aleksy - it was honestly a little bit refreshing, even if he was still unsure of what was going on. "So, uh," he said, adjusting his hold on the folded umbrella. It wasn't raining heavily enough to justify unfurling it - yet. "You just, uh, wind up here? When you opened your front door?" He wasn't sure if it was a good idea to let her know how much experience he had with this world, but it also seemed inevitable. "I've been here before," he said, taking the plunge. "We should keep heading towards town hall. At least the fog's not as bad as back in Ashdown..." As they neared town hall, Aleksy came into view. Finn raised an arm high above his head, waving to him as they approached. "Looks like we're not the only ones here," said Finn, closing the gap. "Ran into her on my way over."

Wait what. What. People were talking to her? No one ever talked to her. People left her alone in her tech corner and didn't talk with her. Erin glanced between both girls, then at the surrounding area, then back at them. Think Erin, think they talked to you, you need to reply to them. Words, words.
Uh... carrots, potatoes, circuit boards. No wrong words. The other words, Erin, the other ones.
"Um... no, how would I? I just stepped outside to this whole thing too..." Erin winced almost immediately, hearing the uninterested tone in her voice. Well at least it wasn't a series of random phrases. Wasn't going to win her friends though.
Erin fell silently, awkwardly pulling at her fingers.

Grinning a little in relief that she not only had someone to talk to, but someone who clearly knew more about this s**t that she did, Bindhi nodded.
"Bindhi," she said. "And that would be correct. And considering I live over at Rider-Waite, this is weirding me out more than a touch. I'm guessing that this is the place all the rumors talk about? I'm not part of some group hallucination then?"
She smiled a little to take any sting out of her words. There was no point in possibly offending the only person she'd run into here. Particularly when he seemed to know what was going on. And he'd been here before! That was even better. She followed along happily enough, trying to figure otu which of her billion and one questions was best to start with.
"So, hey. Since you've been here before. Anything I should know? Like things to avoid and s**t," she spoke quickly. When Finn raised his arm and greeted another guy, she managed a slight wave of her own, more out of politeness. And judging by the greeting, this other dude knew about this place too. Was she the only one in town who had been clueless?

Pretty? Was she really? Ves heard that plenty from people who were actively trying to get in her pants, but she assumed that usually, they just felt obligated to say that. Making someone you were trying to proposition feel anything less than pretty was usually ill-advised. Ves shook her head. Not important. "I've seen this once or twice before," she admitted. Unlike Alexis, she hadn't found the place terribly refreshing. More eerie, like she'd stumbled upon a secret she wasn't supposed to find. "I guess people are always watching. But this place feels a little more hostile and forbidden than most." But surely, the fact that they were both here together meant that something terribly strange was going on. "Are we supposed to go somewhere? Find more people?"

He'd been wandering through this strange, deserted Ashdown for long enough to get decently drenched, though exactly how long that had been was a mystery. Eventually Rabbit decided to head toward town square, for lack of a better destination, and just as he turned to do so, he heard a woman yelling. Not screaming in peril or anything, just speaking loudly and with exasperation, as if someone had cut her off on the highway or taken the last piece of cheesecake. It was the first sign of life he'd come across since leaving his apartment, and he was drawn to the voice and the person attached to it as a possible companion in weirdness. Maybe whoever this was would know what was going on. He sure as hell didn't.
Rabbit rounded the corner, loosening his arms from their tight twist across his chest. His hood was up, and frankly, he looked like a murderer. At least he stopped well away, holding out his hands in front of him.
"Hey, uh. Have you seen anyone else around here?"
It was only after the question was out of his mouth that he felt a flicker of unease. What if this wasn't a human at all? Maybe the cry had been a lure meant to get him alone so it could eat his face off.Pixie Nyxie hello questionable looking man incoming

Most girls were pretty, really. ...and most guys. And most people in general. (Alexis thought a lot of people were attractive, despite - or occasionally in addition to - their personality. But that wasn't relevant, not in this strange new world of rain and - surprisingly - no fog.)
"I don't know what you're talking about. If the real world was like this, it'd be perfect. Come on -- 'm headin' towards City Hall, there's gotta be someone there if there's anyone else --" and Alexis took off in a sprint. They moved fast, surprisingly so.

At least someone was enjoying the rain. Ves had to give Alexis credit for being able to so thoroughly enjoy such a bizarre situation. That was a special skill - or, rather, a special set of preferences. Not many people could say they loved being out in this weather. Maybe this dream wasn't all bad. "Oh, whu- okay!" Ves barely had time to widen her eyes in surprise before Alexis bolted. She broke into a run and gamely did her best to keep up, barely registering where they were headed. At least this was a good distraction. As town hall came into sight, Ves flailed an arm toward the first person she saw - a ponchoed, nervous-looking guy on a bike. "There's someone," she panted to Alexis, gesturing at Marcus, who looked about as lost as she felt.

There was a trio of umbrellas approaching the town hall that hadn’t run into the others yet…well, no, to be fair they had run into ONE other. Jeremiah, Alg, and Zac, the last of the missing ‘Kids’ though he’d have put his foot down to be called such. The two older gentleman were a touch behind from the younger man, He walked with a cat, dropped but facing forward over his shoulder. The reason the cat was not facing where they were going was he kept reaching back towards the red umbrella held by Detective Jeremiah - and the swinging gold ghosts. His step slowed slightly when he saw… more people, more familiar faces when the town, this ‘other Ashdown’ had been a DERTH of life, a mockery of his home with slippery shadows. He glanced back to the two bickering Britts, just to check and see if they saw, but they were still frankly still full Bicker, so he picked up his pace just a touch, and raised a hand in greeting. Falling behind Zac in steps, was the last missing person Detective Lieutenant Jeremiah Mercer. There was something to be said that Algernon Mixlin was with them (especially when he had been questioned so thoroughly by the police). Not that it meant anything because Algie was, in this case, so obviously not the kidnapper.
No, there was not a kidnapper. Except Sunny and that was just in the case of Zac and Jeremiah.
Touching at the bandage across his nose, his eyes rapidly bruising because of the punch, Jeremiah was talking quietly with Algie. "They did what to my car?" Algie had actually said some other things, things that were likely more important, but that was what he had fixated on. endejester ur dads are bickering, do ur thing detective son <3 anyone else also available if someone actually wants him at the moment

Professor Mixlin bobbed beside Jeremiah with a tartan umbrella that matched his very green eyes which were now scrutinizing his friend over top of his glasses. "You know, put a boot on it because of the bloody fog and, you know, it being evidence in your disappearance so it was thoroughly dusted for prints..." Algie flipped him three fingers, "Three days Jeremiah. Three days you were missing." Watch it mister, or you'd get another punch. "Besides what was that bit about powers?" He remembered Aleksy scrutinizing his hand and he looked at it himself, "I wonder if I'm still incubating." p much everyone same same biggrin biggrin
