Iolite sighed. "Should I even ask?" Probably not, no.
"Learn to use them?." It made her feel a little better, though given who Evan was living with, it didn't amount to much. "What about looking into moving to a safer neighborhood? Cambria could help? Surely Zack wouldn't mind something like that."
"I am a cat." She snorted. "Do you expect me to jump your bones?" Humans sure were strange...
"If you insist.." Iolite mumbled, hopping off the couch and trotting over to him. Carefully she pawed at his pants for a moment, as if testing something, before hooking her claws in the fabric and climbed her way up onto his shoulders, where she flopped around them as if she was some sort of accessory. "Like most 'cat-cat' 's as you put it, I am reasonably fine with whatever is put in front of me. I have likely eaten worse. However I detest these strange 'cat food' items you humans feed your pets. They are horribly rancid and I will have no part in them. Wet or dry." She huffed, turning her little black nose in the air."
Her ears twitched, likely tickled but the strands of his hair. "I will come again if need be. I believe I have already stated as such." Then she rolled her eyes and gave him a pointed look. "I have already climbed up here. What do you think I'm going to do? Watch a movie from your shoulders? In another room? No. I wanted to see how you make this 'Mac and Cheese'.

"I expect everyone to jump my bones," Evan muttered, perhaps the most honest he'd really been with her tonight. There was a bitterness to it, but he was in the kitchen and that made everything better already.
When she climbed her way up him, he couldn't help but squirm—and laughed when she made her way up to his shoulder. Usually, Evan did not laugh out loud; usually it was a breathless snigger—consciously quiet, like he was afraid of someone hearing his laugh. He was self conscious about most things about himself, and when an actual noise came out of his mouth he seemed flustered and hastened to clear his throat.
He reached up one hand to pet at her fur even as she tickled the back of his neck. "I'm sorry, Iolite. I'll show you how to make Mac and Cheese. You should come over more often. I'll cook for you all the time. And I'll make sure we always have fish."
It was a bribe, and a thinly veiled one, but he liked her being around.
He'd have taken anyone to avoid the loneliness of an empty house, but he wanted her around.

"I don't want to even begin to understand how you think it would be even feasible for me to jump your bones." She mumbled. "While I believe you could give me quite the colorful and creative explanation, you will have to forgive that I don't want to hear it."
When he laughed, her ears twitched with a air of curiosity and surprise. "My my, what a pleasant surprise..." So he could laugh. Interesting. The sound was not unpleasant to her ears, though Evan was quick to hide it and act as if it had never happened. She wondered how often he did that. A shame really.
"There is nothing to apologize for." She said, turning her head into the hand. "I told you I would come more often didn't I? So I will." Honestly... All this making her repeat herself. "What will you do if it turns I don't like fish?" Likely to be a lie, but the bribe of fish had caught her attention.

Evan wore a little smile that looked like it belonged with an apology, but he managed to keep it to himself. He seemed a little embarrassed still, but being in the kitchen brought out a different side of him.
A happier, slightly more confident side.
Though he seemed reluctant to let it out. "A cat that doesn't like fish? I'd give you chicken, and if you didn't like that we'd go to beef, or lamb or pork. But I'd be really surprised if I couldn’t find at least one fish you like. Raw, or cooked. Or anything you want. You just have to let me know what you like, okay?"
He looked at her and seemed genuine; even if she'd promised to come visit more often, he wanted to make sure she had a good reason to want to come over. "…I don't really know much about you, though. I want to," he said, glancing at her. "I mean, I'd like to get to know you. If you want."

"It could happen couldn't it?? Cats are strange arren't they? I've heard that they have been called fickle. Who is to say I am not fickle?" She probably was. Evan most likely knew this already.
"Does it matter if it is raw or not?" She asked, slightly curious. "Can humans not eat raw foods? Does it always have to be cooked??" Iolite snorted quietly. "I do not think you would like what 'anything you want' could entail. Her thoughts once again went to just how she acquired the materials for her nest. More things, Evan didn't need to know.
However, when Evan inquired about her, Iolite grew quiet for a long moment. "...There is... not much to know." She said quietly. "I had a home once, or so I've been told, but.. I can not remember those times. From what I've heard, no one of my kind can, I think." She shrugged lightly. "From what I've learned, Guardian Cat's are born like... any other cats. There's a process of an awakening.. were we become what we are now but, to be honest, it was all a blur. And now? There's a big difference in the memories I've made now, versus things that happened when I was just a cat. Those.. seem so strange, like I couldn't make heads or tails of them. I never bothered with humans either I think. Both before I 'awoke' and after." At least, not until she had crossed paths with Jaysen and Alex. "There. That's all I know."
"...That being said, I have figured out a few things about myself." She said, her tone lifting a bit. "I like to read. Also, um. I like, video games. I have also been told I really like music." Then she grew quiet for a moment. "Don't tell anyone I told you those things." She grumbled, ears flattening.

Evan had half a mind to really get into it—to go all out on a full food lecture, but he kept quiet while he listened. By the time she was done talking, nagging about food or her preferences just didn't seem appropriate.
He listened quietly, cooking his macaroni and cheese with an expertise that indicated just how familiar he was with preparing this dish. Though he didn't speak, he nodded occasionally. When she finished speaking, he blinked. "Why don't you want anyone else to know? —I mean, I won't tell anyone," he assured, though wondered if she really expected he had anyone to tell.
He didn't have books to offer, and while Zack had a few consoles, they were practically collecting dust—and Evan was awful at them so he didn't volunteer to play something with her. Music, he could do. He liked music. Or, at least, the escape it brought.
"…Does it bother you that you can't remember everything?" he asked after a second; his eyes were half lidded and he wore an expression that seemed to indicate he was mostly listening to her…but caught up with something else that he didn't seem inclined to share.
