"Ask him yourself, seeing as you are ******** buddy-buddy with him now." Al grunted irritably and took another swig of amnesia-juice. "What relationship stuff for you anyway?" He pushed the discussion back at the other man.

"Woah. I didn't say we were buddy-buddy. We just started talking again." He said, lifting a hand up in defense before setting it back around his beer bottle, picking at the corner of a label.
"Just....." He pulled a corner and watched the sticky label pull before he pressed it back down, not pleased to think of the mess he'd make if he pulled off something adhesive.
"......worrying about someone, but they won't open up more."

"Talking is more than I'll probably ever be doing again," he glanced down at the label distantly. It was somehow soothing watching someone acting as anxious as he felt but then Melvin ended it as soon as he began.
"Who?" He pried even deeper.

"Jan....I wonder if I'm paying enough attention or ways I can get him to trust me more." He admitted, taking another sip of his drink.
"Rep won't let you even talk to him? He is usually talkative even when he is angry."

"Trust, I hear, is a two way street. Do you trust him any?" He paused to take a deeper swig. "If you trust him as much as you want him to trust you then well, that's all you can do." He sighed heavily and rolled his eyes before turning his back, finishing off the glass and then moving over to wash it. "Nope. Not this time." He shook the glass gently and started to towel it dry.
"I should probably resign." he'd considered out loud.

"Of course I do. I've told him, and I tell him anything he asks. I try to be as open as I can with him. It's just, sometimes he doesn't say things that I think he should mention even if I don't ask. I guess he just isn't ready, but it starts feeling more and more like maybe it is something more. Like I did something wrong." He took another drink of his beer and finished it, nudging it aside.
"Why do you want to resign? You don't like working here?"

"Maybe you should ask then? Speaking from experience, I don't think anyone here is a ******** mind-reader. As long as he answers truthfully, I don't see a problem." He rolled a shoulder, a non-committal shrug.
"It's awkward," he'd admitted. "When I said he wasn't talking to me, I meant it. Imagine trying to work around someone who just stares right through you all the time as if you didn't exist. I can't handle it."

He sighed. "He denies it. He still won't give me a reason why for some of his actions." He said, and then pushed the glass forward. "Well, what are you going to do? I would say just keep talking to him until he finally talks back, but that's me." "Can I have another refill?"

"Maybe," he replied with a thoughtful hum. He took Melvin's glass, topped it off, and slid it back at him. "The worst he could do is fire me, I guess. Which is essentially the same thing as quitting on an island like this." He shrugged, "guess we both got more s**t we could try then, hm?"
