"Running such a large establishment would take a lot of time. Making sure everyone and everything is fed, clothed, roof over the head. Not to mention daily chores. A ranch is far more time consuming than just a house." The more he spoke of it, the more he was sure of his answer.
With a nod he started leading the way back out towards the kitchen. "Of course. And I can help carry anything else, since the trip is right next door."

Menolly accepted his answer with a smile, "You are right." That cheered her up considerably. She couldn't expect her father to drop everything but surely he'd send word and she'd make the trip out there. That was another worry put to rest.
Right to work, Menolly made a bee-line for the kitchen and started pulling things out of the fridge and pantry. All at once the angel was on a mission, this was a recipe she helped prepare for a lot of pae so paring it down was the only tough part. On the counter she started to place things as she grabbed them.
First there were a good ten tomatos, one whole yellow onion, one green pepper, handful of garlic cloves, oregano, thyme, two bay leaves that started to make her list look like a garden. Following that she pulled out a bag of sugar and flour from the pantry to put into the grouping. Last but not least followed with a pile of a brown paper wrapped meat and a container of eggs. Placing everything out neatly it surely didn't look like she had planned a good dinner for two, nope just worked out that way.
Beaming at Raken she told him, "This is everything!" A dessert would be nice but she thought of that after she declared that and then there was the fact that some pae didn't like sweets and she didn't know his tastes.Tartara Seabreeze It just keeps going and going and going

She seemed much happier with that thought. Good. He was unexpectedly glad that he had eased some concern.
The demon dawdled behind to let her go into the kitchen, as she knew what ingredients to grab. He didn't expect it to be so many. His recipes were very simple if effective. Meat, vegetables, a few seasonings, done. Guardians, what is she going to do with TEN tomatoes? His curious nature kept his eyes focused on the angel as she worked, trying to puzzle out the meal based on what she grabbed. Flour could be for bread, but it was also used as a thickener in stew. Eggs said bread as well, along with sugar. A cake? No milk. So curious.
"You certain?" He spoke a bit dryly, as the ingredient list was quite extensive. Raken flashed a bit of a smirk and walked over with the basket in tow to gently start placing items within it. "I'm quite curious as to what you're going to be making...is it a dessert with the food? Or is this all for the meal?" His steel blue eyes flicked up to her golden. "Or is it a surprise?"

Raken got a confused look at first when he asked her if she had everything, then she snapped her fingers, "Salt and pepper, I almost forgot, thank you!" He clearly saved her from a kitchen disaster, of sad proportions. Darting to grab the items she had forgotten, Menolly bounced back and happily informed him, "It can be a surprise, I'll tell you when you guess it!" This could be a lot of fun even it it would be easy.
Comparatively, this felt like an easy recipe to her, very simple once everything went together with well practiced hands. Most pae seemed to love it, she had hope he would too. Even with the seriousness of the task, she placed her own items on top of the neat basket, looking back at him and smiling. Her hands were near his but she wasn't looking, no the pae in front of her was more then enough. Evenstill, she was trying to be mindful remembering her overstep just a short time ago.

His question was meant to be rhetorical, but apparently it produced an actual response. Seasonings, should have guessed. He repressed a chuckle as she quickly fetched the items to return to the basket. "Hmm. Meatloaf? Or a stew?" As she looked up at him with her beaming smile, his own lips turned in soft return. She was...very pretty. He didn't normally associate with female non-family members this much. Not since Fre. He was not cut from stone, he could admit he sometimes missed that closeness.
He felt his face warm before turning towards the door. Kurts DAUGHTER.

He was smiling back, a look that was charming. It wasn't that he didn't smile but it was certainly something she appreciated and took note. Humming a few bars she told him still beaming, "Nope!" The answer came with a trill towards the end very pleased with the game.
The abrupt turn and walking toward the door caught her off guard. Placing her hand on her own counter to steady herself, the bewildered angel stared at Raken for a few moments trying to come to turns with the action. Overstepped again, but where was the line?
Spurred into action, she finally got moving and quickly caught up to the demon. As it was her house, she got to the side with the door, passing closely behind him, as she moved to be polite. A good hostess should be the last to leave and close the door behind. Securing it wasn't a concern, there wasn't much she had of value and no reason to distrust her fellow blood pae.

He is a recluse. He is dedicated to the Guardians. She is Kurts daughter. This was not okay. If he was so desperate for female companionship perhaps he should get a random girlfriend just to keep his grubby mitts away from Menolly. And keep his friend from joining the faun in a vendetta.
He quickly paced out of the house, quickly pulling his composure back together. "Are their biscuits or some sort of bread product involved?" He resumed their game, feeling less intimate now that they were outside.

Once outside she closed the door to her house and quickly caught up to her guest. Well, she was about to be his guest, was that the difference? Determined to see where the line of his comfort was, she took it upon herself to joyfully loop her arm with his arm carrying the basket. Answer his question as if there was no difference, she told him, "Nope, no bread products!" Pasta wasn't bread was it? No surely not.

Raken respectfully waited for her to close the door before taking the first step towards his humble abode. A smooth touch brushed his side to wrap around his arm, making his eyes widen slightly in surprise.
She was touching him.
He quickly glanced to the blond female, who seemed quite content beside him. Well...this was no worse than a hug. He could accept this. The male looked forward again as he commenced walking. "Not a bread product...not a stew. Dessert?"

Once they made the noodles he'd know what it was, but she was in no rush to end the game. Rather she was thinking about the best use of pots and containers. He was also allowing her to stay as she was without pulling away. It gave her a good starting point to understand how he felt.
Sure she could ask, but that felt too direct. Much like his game it was her tern to figure out what was what, "Not a dessert either." Once again while the word was to the negative her own tone was very positive and cheerful. Having him so close even boosted her mood already bright to shine more.

"Hmm.." He lightly frowned in thought as he angled them inwards towards his door. "Is there a sauce involved?" Flour was used for thickening stew, but it could also be for thickening a sauce. The demon reached out with his free arm to swing the door open. With a quick thought and a slight glance, the shadows pulled together to speedily create the shadow cat.
Almost as though it was happy to see Menolly, it let out a yowl as its tail flicked up in acknowledgement.

Following contently along, Menolly happily waited for his next guess. Grinning she remarked, "Correct! There is a sauce that plays a key role!" The game was fun, watching him work through it was just amazing. Now that they had that part, it would be no time before he knew what they were putting together. He opened the door and she felt more comfortable, his place just felt more 'home' like then hers. I could be that he had lived in it, a home that had an occupied felt different then one that did not. It was probably it.
She might not have noticed the shadows if not for the other day, now they had her attention. As the familiar cat reformed, Menolly gave a little 'eee' sound and quickly hugged Raken's arm tighter a moment before letting go to greet the cat, "Hello gorgeous!" Giggling she reached out eager to pet the shadow cat.Tartara Seabreeze Distracting Menolly, just add cat. Raken's power became more useful to him xd

A sauce was involved! His eyes lit up as a smile tugged at his lips. Anything that required his brain to work was right up his alley, and the fact that he was slowly but surely working it out was a sweet reward. Some pae wanted flowers or material things as gifts. A good mind teaser or game was all he needed. "Is it a roast?"
But just as Menolly had caught an interest of his, it seemed he had gotten hers right in return. As she happily scooted over to the feline his smile widened further. "I don't think I ever gave it a name." He spoke while stepping into the home, closing the door behind them.
The feline meowed again before going onto its hind legs, front paws up onto Menolly's leg.

Now she was trying to think of roasts that involved sauces. None came to mind but that would have to be fixed in time. Between her friends in the mess hall and the library she'd learn. Instead she shook her head and remarked, "Not a roast." All his ideas had started a bit of a list in her head. Were these foods he'd prefer? Though for some reason Raken didn't strike her as someone that cared for sweets.
The precious kitty was winning the tug of war with her attentions. Petting and cooing over the cat she questioned, "You don't have a name, you poor dear. What name would fit such a perfect kitty?" A flurry of names came to mind, almost beating out her recipe list.
At the same time, there was so much to do and too many lists. "The meal is a bit involved and will take some time." Looking down and petting the cat once more she asked it, "Would you be the observer and keep everything in line." Cooing once more to the cat, and spending way too much time showering her favorite shadow with attention, she had to reluctantly pull away. Between the sauce and the dough alone they wouldn't eat till night fall if she didn't get started!Tartara Seabreeze Menolly= Work..but kitty..but dinner..but kitty gonk

"Not a roast..." Not a stew, not meatloaf, has sauce...His brow furrowed slightly in thought as an idea came to mind. She wouldn't put all that effort in for him, would she?
"...It's not a pasta or noodle is it?" He hadn't had a noodled soup for ages. Not since Headquarters, as there was no reason for him to spend so much time on food when other things were shorter and just -if not more- as nutritious.
As she fawned over the shadow cat he made his way into the kitchen, beginning to take out some general cooking ware that she might need. Like a knife for the tomatoes or meat, and a bowl for mixing.
At Menolly's pets the cat purr'ed appreciatively as it nudged its head into her hand. Whether it understood her request or not, the feline did follow her as she pulled away.
