Once they were fully on the sand, Kimi's tipsy walk evened out somewhat. The crunch and shift of the sand beneath their feet and he felt the years melt away like magic.
He too had spent a good portion of his kithood days on the sand and in the surf, as such he was actually an accomplished swimmer. The rolling and rocking of the waves buoying him up had been a different kind of steadiness that he had never found on land.
Having his full name spoken made him pause, it wasn't good or bad to hear it from her, he just rarely heard it fully spoken. "Why I've never been asked... and I guess. A little bit, why..." He paused and shook his head lightly, turning towards her to keep her on his good side.
"You're wonderful, Rire." He loved her name, the way it tickled his tongue, it made him smile just to say it. "I admire you for many reasons. You say there aren't many like me, but that's... probably a good thing?" he gave a slightly self-deprecating laugh, hanging his head for only a moment before looking back up at her again. "I don't think there are many like you out there either, and you might think that that's a good thing, but I don't."
"More mothers should be as dedicated as you are. More ulaya should smile wide and laugh, and find joy in living like you do. I know you're not happy every moment, but who is?" He shook his head again, a little too rough and made himself sit abruptly with a wave of dizziness. "That, doesn't matter."

 Her head shook as she paused for a moment, "No, its a good thing there arent many like me, you have to have a thick skin to handle the negativity of it all really." She snorted, she really tried not to let what others thought of her affect her, and continued to live her life to her own beat, but sometimes it was just...to much, even for her. And she had put her kits into the same position she had grown up in, and that too had its many draw backs. The kit with no mother, and a father who well..almost everyone knew Tac.
She sat beside him and smiled softly, "Thank you, I love those little monsters more than I could imagine ever being possible. Love and I dont normally see eye to eye, its a hard concept for me to believe in...until well.." She didnt say anything, she too was unsure of this spark, the tiny flame she felt when Kimi was around. She turned and nuzzled under his chin with more affection than she openly shared. "Your my unicorn." She whispered.

"Well, I suppose the dune grass is greener on someone else's beach?" Kimi gave a snort and nuzzled his chin on top of Rire's head. "I'm not trying to discount the nonsense you've had to deal with... I just meant that, at least from where I'm sitting, it seems like you do deal with it pretty well..."
"But here I'm sitting, not having to deal, so instead of just thinking you're doing alright, how about you tell me, when you need to get stuff off your chest. Thick skin or not, if it wears on you I want to be there for you."
He let her stay there, his good ear twitching as she spoke soft, he put an arm around her. "Until it crawled out of boxes and nipped ya on the tail?"
He assumed it was her love for her kits she was talking about. In a way he loved them too, though he didn't make any mistake in thinking what he felt for them could be anything like what she felt. He hoped he wasn't too mistaken. Too far off from what was on her mind, but there was still the unasked question of the kittens father.
It still wasn't his business.
Kimi nearly missed her whisper and then, instead of responding he wondered on what she meant.

Her body lightly leaned against his, she wasnt actually used to leaning on anyone, and it seemed that she looked to Kimi more than most, he was even helping her raise her kits, even though they werent his, it didnt matter though. Not to them, not to Rire, her kits adored him and that was much better.
She laughed softly and shook her head, "Your already there for me so much Kimi, I honestly dont know what Id do without you." She leaned up and kissed his cheek lightly.
"I knew parent love existed, my dad might be a total raging a** on a good day, but there wasnt a question he loves me. But other forms, Ive just never held any real stock in them." She snorted, "I mean look at what happened when I thought there was a possibility of something more than a passing fancy..He ditched out without a word like a shadow in the night." She shook her head, "Though honestly, not sure what else I really expected..."
She frowned now, "Well, this is a lousy date..this subject is a downer. Cmon handsome, lets find some happier sands."

Kimi went ahead and let her lean, welcomed the feeling of security. He was used to leaning, had spent a lot of time leaning on Rennoa when he was young and not yet used to his dizzy spells. She in turn had leaned on him, they'd propped each other up for a time.
His thoughts weren't on his sister or himself right now. Though he had his own concerns and fears on his shoulders.
Kimi let Rire explain what was on her mind, and that unspoken topic was finally spoken and... he didn't know what to say. He felt for Rire, if that was how it was, he knew he had to step into this with all four feet firmly planted. He couldn't walk away from this. Rire deserved someone so much steadier.
After the kiss when she tried to pull away he cupped her face with his paw for a moment, and pressed his forehead to hers. "How about we never find out... what you'd do, or what I'd do without you."
He let go after a short moment, and let Rire lead on, he didn't like to see that frown on her face, but he wasn't about to have her wipe it away just so that he could see a smile. "It's fine, really, Rire." He stood to follow along beside her, "This is exactly what I meant before... even if it's an unhappy subject, you can always talk about anything that's on your mind."

Her body froze as he cupped her face, her eyes widened slightly and at his words, her heart exploded within her, an explosion of feelings and emotions she'd never felt, never really let herself feel before seemed to pour over her, into the deepest parts of her shut out, shut off from the world seemed to soak him in, this moment.
She could swear her heart was thundering loud enough for everyone within miles to hear, she wasnt sure if she was even breathing anymore. No one had ever gotten to her in such a way, and she was used to pretty words from false tongues but not him, there was nothing false in this. Her entire world had just shifted and tilted, and she knew it would never be righted again.
She tried to swallow, but found a lump in her throat.
When he released her, she found herself needing his touch again. She didnt move, she stayed where she was, gazing up at her, losing herself in his gaze, she hadnt had this in mind, maybe she had for a future time...but here it was now.
"Kimihiro.." Her voice was soft, thick with the emotions swirling inside her. And now she cupped his face in her tiny paws, she had to take this leap, this chance now. She didnt wait, she knew if she didnt do this now, that she may never be able to find the courage to, the moment would never feel as right.
She kissed him, and not some friendly gesture, and yet somehow it was still innocent.

"Rire, are you--" Kimi began to ask but then her paws were on his face and she kissed him. Kimi reeled. There wasn't any sort of dramatic flailing but somehow, even with four feet he lost his footing and slipped backward.
Arms around her, at least they didn't have far to fall, and were cushioned by the still warm sand.
The kiss was returned, and after when he propped them up, brushing sand from her fur, kissed her again, holding her closer.
"...Rire."

She didnt even notice that she was falling with him until his arms were around her as she was cushioned by him, her heart thudding against his chest.
Her thoughts hadnt even began to clear, the fog in her brain thick and nothing seemed to exist but Kimi at that moment, though as he brushed sand from her fur, she was so grateful to have such dark fur as a blush stained her cheeks, by the gods was she blushing?!!!
When he kissed her again, she shifted closer, as she littered his jaw with light kisses until he spoke her name.
She froze.
"Yes?"

Kimi shook his head lightly, he had not meant to interrupt, only ask if she was alright because of the fall. He felt as if he wasn't ever going to be as steady as he was right now, if only his brain and his tongue would connect. "It's alright." He murmured and brushed her hair out of her face. His cheeks were as warm as hers were.
"I mean, I'm alright, if you are too." His voice not more than a whisper.

It seemed like any sort of actual thoughts were completely gone from her mind, it took her a moment for her to actually be able to say anything.
"Perfect.." her voice mirrored his. "Just perfect.." She wasnt sure how he felt about what just happened, but she had a good idea that he at least wasnt appalled by her behavior.
"I-I-uh-.." Was she tongue tied?! What was happening to the smooth flirty ability she had, "I didnt hurt you did I?" She never asked about his ailments, honestly they hadnt ever really changed her thoughts about him, but she worried now.

A smile broke out on his face at her words, he couldn't help but press yet another kiss on her lips, the moment lingering on.
"No, not at all. It wasn't your fault."
If they were to be getting up and continuing their walk, he might need a moment before he could find his feet steady again, and as it was he didn't mind sitting with her, faces pressed close and whispering as if the two of them were the only two in the universe.
"Sometimes I lose my balance. I'm glad you're not hurt."

She gave him a playful smile "Thick skinned you know, takes a bit more than that to hurt me." She teased him softly.
"You can lean on me too Kimi..Im the perfect size." She grinned now, she didnt want the moment to stop, but she needed to find balance, he had spun her world out of alignment and that little spark she had been hiding, was roaring at a full burning flame now.
She looked up at him from under her lashes, and she didnt want to rush things to far, or fast and lose him completely. She already knew that would be a pain that she wasnt sure shed ever recover from.

His paw brushed over her hair once again and he took her at her word, his other arm staying around her. If she was thick-skinned and it wasn't easy to hurt her he hoped he would never find that limit. He never wanted to cause any pain.
He kept leaning on her and smiling and sooner than it might usually have taken, or else he had no concept of the time passing, his dizziness passed and he didn't have to lean quite so much to keep himself upright.
"You're perfect, alright... but I think the spell has passed." He meant his dizzy head only and was not trying to rush her off. Especially not when she looked up at him like that. The moment was stretching on, and he didn't know exactly where it would lead, what he should say, or do.
His life was always on a knife edge of possibility. The push and pull of circumstances beyond his control and the ones had a paws directly in. The things he had nearly been ruined by and the things he'd nearly ruined himself. He'd lived through, pushed through it all and found himself here, and there was really no place that he'd rather be.

She didnt mind him leaning on her at all, the weight of it somehow simply felt right, and was easy for her to handle.
She did her best not to purr from happiness of the moment but simply smiled.
"Well, you can rest your paws in the sand or even the waters if you'd like here soon." She nudged under his chin lightly, a small simple sign of affection.
She didnt know his past, and it wasnt her place to push for the information. She would happily take all he wanted to share but in the end, she knew it wouldnt matter. She didnt know anyone with as kind a heart as him, she could tell it had been injured, like her daughter had once hinted at. But if he was willing, she would be more than happy to help mend the broken pieces.

Kimi nuzzled Rire and pushed himself to his feet with her help. "I'm feeling much better now, don't fret." He gave her a bit of a teasing smile, knowing that as a mother, she was a worrier and also knowing that telling her not to would not make her stop. Still, the reassurance was genuine.
"Let's continue on this way..." He nudged her lightly, pointing them down the beach to the edge of sand and surf where the rolling waves climbed up the shore and smoothed the sand before retreating. "The sun had nearly set..."
