"But-" Cassie started, attempting to argue with Dawson, cut short by another gunshot that grazed her arm on its way into the wall. If she'd known anything about guns (despite years of reading The Punisher, she never absorbed any of the ballistic knowledge), Cassie would have noticed this particular person was using hollow point rounds. Her knees shook, but she gave Dawson a mutter of confirmation. The Moon was right; these people couldn't be reasoned with. "I won't leave your side."Someone screamed when the bat shaped blade whizzed through the crowd, and Cassie tried to think they were just cut, not stabbed. HP: 32 DMG: 3 CHG: 3/3 BOSS: 68

"Good girl." Maybe Horace was fine, maybe he wasn't. Dawson wasn't going to take that chance. Pulling his dagger out when he found an opportunity, he pulled himself and Cassie closer to their teammate before thrusting the runic into the ground. To his dismay, the field it generated wasn't as strong as he knew it could be; those red weapons seemed to slice past it regardless. Muttering a curse, he checked to make sure Cassie was indeed staying by his side before raising his shield over her in time for a dagger to deflect off it with a loud clang. "Keep 'em off us fer a moment," he told Cassie. "See if I'll take a swing at 'em myself." HP: 50 Defending himself and Horace for: 3 gdi Charge: 3/3 BOSS: 68

Horace spared a glance back at Dawson and Cassie and was rewarded by a clout to the head. He groaned and electricity sparked up and down his arms as he threw himself in the crowd. The scent of sizzling flesh clogged his nostrils. HP: 22 DMG: 14 CHG: 0/3 BOSS: 54 medigel whoops should have healed myself instead

"R-right..." Cassie stammered, pulling Tendaji back from the crowds, coiling both ends around her fists. Defense wasn't something Tendaji had ever taught her to do; he seemed disgusted at the thought. Total brutality was his way of doing things, reckless destruction and well placed disruptions.
Someone swung at Dawson with another knife, and Cassie was there, rope taut, catching the knife-wielder off guard, and giving him a kick in the shins. "Dawson! Are you okay?"

The spark that struck Horace lit up was caught at the edge of his peripheral vision, and Dawson grit his teeth as he saw his friend throw himself against the enemy. "I'm fine," he grunted at Cassie, yanking the runic dagger from the ground and pocketing it with his uruz for now. "Watch him." And for once, it wasn't just the usual stubbornness that insisted she didn't challenge him. The Moon's field of vision seemed to narrow as, with a loud bellow, Dawson brought his shield up before him and rent the tangled group of people into two sides, knocking back some and even overrunning one of the shorter humans who hadn't turned in time. Anything to make a ruckus and draw attention away from his team. Even when his charge was eventually stopped, he kept moving, swinging his shield like a sword and goading them when bullets and daggers bounced off it. HP: 48 Dmg: 9 Charge: 3/3 Runic Recharge: 1/5 BOSS: 45

Horace struck out again, the lingering static making his arms tingle. He probably should have tried to heal instead, but what was done was done. The crowd of their enemies had diminished, a bit - maybe they could not die. That'd be nice, maybe. The smaller size didn't mean they weren't still a threat. One of them kicked out at the back of Horace's knee and he stumbled, crumpling forward for a second. HP: 14 DMG: 9 CHG: 1/3 BOSS: 36

Cassie's response to Dawson's command was little more than a nod, having never been one to challenge an authority figure. Especially not a male authority figure - which was strange, albeit the norm in small, rural towns. It seemed that not many on the island had the same upbringing.
Too little, too late, too distracted. Horace was down, temporarily, and left wide open. Cassie's timing was off, still thinking elsewhere - of home, of the values she'd always clung to that were already being challenged - and Tendaji's blade barely managed to slice into an opportunist's hands before they fell on Horace.
