Caedus thought for a moment at her description and nodded, but shrugged quickly afterwards. "Sometimes things get distracting. But, yes. We are very involved in research. Privacy is greatly understood. I like to read, though. You should stay in school. I liked our classes. But it would have been shameful if I had never gone on to pursue greater things."

He sighed, exasperated, and then shrugged. "Some paths we choose, and some are chosen for us, though. Earth has so much freedom. You do things so differently here. I wish to know what you like most about this planet. And what…does this planet want? …How do they have no treaties with other worlds?"

"I'd like to, if I find the right college to move on to." Elpis admitted, smiling and grinning. "Reading's nice. I agree..."

She was content, smiling warmly before thinking.

"Truthfully, I'm glad to be a senshi. It means... I can protect my Dad and brother, and family." She shook her head of the bad memories of the dark, miserable future, the feelings of powerlessness, of never becoming a senshi...

"I don't know what the planet wants. There's too many governments. Earth isn't as united as it seems. Different places and people claiming land as their own, different religions... And not everyone agrees. So it varies based on country. I'd think you'd need to address all of them, but there's hundreds."

Elpis sighed, shaking her head.

"The fighting is rediculous when there's the war we're in with the Negaverse really. Territory or political squabbles, as opposed to... Well, whatever this war is."

"That is ridiculous," he agreed, nodding slightly. Do your governments not aid you, or do they not care about the Negaverse?"

He bristled for a moment, as if possessed by a terrible thought. Slowly, he asked, "…Does your government support the Negaverse?"

He seemed unnerved by the idea, and suddenly a bit more wary. His eyes were moving rapidly, although by doing so he were able to scan or organize his thoughts. Finally, he shook his head.

"I wonder why the system of Kings and Councils have faded. It would be so much better to have a single unified world than one so divided. If they do not like the way it is run, they should simply leave. There is a whole universe out there. They could claim a part of it for themselves and leave the rest to share like minded-ideals here on this planet."

"Don't know if they know." Elpis noted. "So far things seem fairly underground as far as I know. A lot of people don't seem to know what's going on. I can keep my eyes peeled though."

And then, Elpis grinned.

"People got used to choice. Plus most humans who try to be a monarchy or dictatorship end up thrown out of power. All the royal families on Earth now are figureheads."

The senshi shook her head.

"So is most of the universe based in Monarchies?"

It might explain SETI failing to find them - concerted effort to avoid Earth...

Caedus shook his head. "It is hard to speak for all of the universe. Some of them have very complicated systems, and some of them have very simple ones. Monarchies are easy. There is one ruler. One person you can look to, and trust. One person specifically groomed for the good of the many. Who is taught all the important values of the people. There is a council, of course, to aid in decisions, but there is no fighting amongst the people. No divided cultures to wage war upon each other, because all are united under one person. But."

He shrugged. "I suppose everyone must think their system is best. I would say no system is perfect, but ours has worked. My world exists because of one man, with one ideal. For the betterment of others. All his heirs were taught his way, and abide by a strict code. He must be everything the people need, and more. But if you look at how far my world has come…I think it works. I do not think we could have become so great any other way."

Elpis nodded, listening attentively to his words with the focus of a student learning from a teacher before seeming to think.

"That makes sense. That cultures choose what is best for them. Here, people have cultural clashes. It's... Led to some innovations, really. But Earth isn't as advanced as we probably should be, based on what you're saying."Elpis admitted, still thoughtful. "A lot of innovation came from figuring out how to kill soldiers better."

Caedus shrugged. "Some of the most intelligent creatures can be trapped on a world that doesn't understand them. Suppressed by creatures who think they are better then them." He seemed disgusted by the idea; his eyes narrowed.

"…Fighting for sport. Fighting against your brother. It is foolish. There is nothing to be gained. Your world could be so much more advanced if you put your efforts into improving it, instead of destroying it. Improving each other instead of destroying each other. I am disappointed at the barbarianism. But your species has endured for ages. You still have time to evolve. Hopefully…before it is too late."

"Can't disagree there." Elpis sighed, shaking her head. "At all. United we stand. There are good people - but the bad are so stinking vocal."

Elpis shook her head, sighing.

Humans as a species... Really do need to get their s**t together, if you pardon my profanity. But all people think is 'what about me?'. I'm not innocent - it's part of cross-national culture - but it does lead to fighting. Still, if I speak as an individuality, I'm sick of the people wrapped up in themselves. I want to see people get better. Work towards a greater good. It's just a matter of rallying for it and convincingh people. Takes a whole lot of charisma for that."

Charisma she was pretty sure she lacked.

Caedus drew in a long breath—and then sighed. "That is disappointing," he finally murmured. "That a planet should be so divided. It is simple, I should think. That you work together. To better the lives of yourselves, your ancestors. To prologue the life of your planet. Earth will not last forever. I have seen planets rise and fall in my lifetime. I am almost afraid to know what more has fallen in my time in the Rift. But." He sighed, heavily. "At least there is a chance. Some of those I have spoken to seem like they only have the best in mind for everyone. Humans were always susceptible to greed. To selfishness. The planet was beautiful, and so full of life, but humans…"

His voice trailed off, at first, and then he finished, "Humans always worried me."

Elpis nodded, offering him a reassuring look.

"There's good people, too. People who try - but it's like the bad wants them snuffed out. I'm not perfect either - but I know there's a lot of people who mean well."

She sighed, and then nodded.

"I wouldn't be surprised if planets fall. Elpis - my world I guess - it's covered with plants and ruins. It's quiet too. I can tell there were people, but now..."

Dead silence meant no animal life, merely planets. So many damn plants everywhere.

"There is nothing wrong with plants," Caedus said after a moment. "They are among the cornerstones of life. They are fundamental. It means your planet is not dead, and that it is changing. You should take the time to learn about your planet while it is so malleable. Perhaps you are the key to restoring life on your homeworld. Though, I confess. I am not an expert on encouraging flourishing animal life. But we made a planet from scratch. Your planet is already halfway to restoration. You are lucky. That is better than most can say after a so many years without a protector."

"Maybe, though last time I went just... Was kind of creepy, even by my standard - which is kind of hard."

She did, after all, think of some creepy things as absolutely adorable. And some things were too creepy even for her.

"I don't know how to unlock a planet, actually. I know how ecosystems work on this planet on a base level, but space might be different. Especially since the plants on Elpis seem different. Though some of the flowers seem rocky, so..."

Odd, in and of itself.

"Rocky?" he asked, tilting his head. "…That must be a most interesting species of flower. But it is not bad to be unusual. Unusual tends to be useful. It is a good tool to barter with. Something rare and unique is something coveted. Do not forget this. I do hope, though, that you will be able to restore life. I cannot recall ever seeing rocky flowers in my time . Do they have an aroma?"

Elpis nodded, thoughtfully.

"A little. I think, maybe if they had water on them it might get stronger. Interestingly they move and have give, but seem to crunch. I might've accidentally stepped on one. THAT smelled. Sort of sweet? Like an earth rose, with honey undertones."

Then Elpis shrugged.

"I actually don't know how to restore life, really. I'd need at least some edible plants, if my planet has none, an herbivore, a carnivore, and scavengers at minimum."

Plus if Earth germs harmed plants...

And her mind seemed to be mulling over logistics of creating an artificial ecosystem.

"It seems that there are few, if any, who possess the knowledge to restore life. I wish you the best in your research, though. Perhaps you can borrow some of Earth's water and experiment with the flowers? I do not know what could come of it, but if your planet has deteriorated so far, it does not seem as though it could hurt it…"

He was quiet, trying to debate in his mind. "…It is a shame you do not have open trade or access to all worlds. I know of several locations capable of speeding the natural life cycle of numerous small planets, but I have no way to access them now, and no way to share that information. I am sorry."

His fell quiet for a moment, and then shrugged. "…Do you like flowers?"
