There were a lot of things he could've said but he didn't. Unsaid words laying heaving on his tongue and tasting like bile when he swallowed them back down. He didn't understand it, the emotions that bubbled in his chest and threaten to spill into every part of him.

It'd been too long since he'd felt anything that wasn't anxiety, fear, confusion, pain.

This hurt, but in a different way - he couldn't explain, didn't know where to begin.

"Don't let me down," he said quietly, something unreadable - a flicker of pain perhaps - in his eyes even as his expression turned flat. "I -" I had such high hopes for you. He turned his back on her so she couldn't see the way his expression crumpled.

The line of his back remained taunt, straight even as his hands trembled by his sides. "By my leave," he mumbled, eyes fluttering closed as he left - teleporting away because he couldn't stand to be around her anymore when she left him feeling
