They had an opportunity that many of Earth would have thrown themselves at. Not taking advantage of it seemed foolish at best. How many other people from Earth could say they had walked on a comet? Not many, he could imagine. He was proud to be one of them himself--it was too bad it wasn't anything he could share with NASA or CSA or ESA or--.

Born here being the qualifier because he imagined his own ability to go to the comet confirmed aliens, or something.
Remarque seemed genuinely interested, and Encke had no real reason to withhold what he had found. It was exciting. Well, besides for the fact the comet was arguably dead. "It's fascinating. There's abandoned buildings all over, architecture is built around tall spires that jut out of the corners of buildings -- and there's taller ones that remind me of Tesla coils?" He was gesturing fairly wildly. "The one place I've been exploring appears to have been the capital, I think. It's surrounded by rocks and sands of a greyish shade. I haven't been able to figure out what they're made of yet. Nor have I really gone out of the capital."
