Delilah acknowledged his answer as she met the pace of his wheelchair. She was genuinely starting to enjoy talking with him, it made her feel less... alone. She had so many questions to ask, but had to carefully pick which ones she asked.
"Were you born sick?" she picked as her first question, getting right to the point. "I was a little sick when I was very young, but when I fused, I became more sick." she answered the question herself.
"Are there things that make your illness worse?" she chose her second question carefully, trying to pry into more information about his illness. "I get more sick when I'm sad." she answered as well, leaving it at that.
"Did you grow up here at the academy?" her third question was more inquisitory to find out if she could later find his files if he had one. Anything to help her understand. "I grew up really far away from here when it was open. I was only here a short time before it was shut down. Since then, I lived here alone for 20 years." she answered, trying not to think too hard on the matter, her eyes staring off blankly. She'd learned to keep her emotions very in check over the time she spent there.
She then hesitated to ask the most important burning question in her mind, would he get sick from being around her. She wanted to know, but she was scared of the answer. The lake came into view and she distracted herself from the thought for now. She just really wanted to enjoy this moment. As they approached the lake, she thought of another question.
Don't. It's best you stop now. You're getting too attached.
She turned around to look at him directly, carefully removing her mask to smile at him softly, "D-do you... w-want to be... f-friends?" she asked aloud. She knew it might be a little blunt, but that was her nature after all. She had wanted a friend all her life and she figured he too would have wanted a friend as well.

Was he born sick... He tried to remember the time before he was given is cello... was he? Not particularly, no. He shook his head weakly. "N---no..." Xeizii remembered being fairly healthy, actually. It was shortly after his getting his item that he began to fall ill. First it was just colds, then it became chronic colds... and then he began to become unable to walk - breathing became hard...
"No...... and yessss.... ssssometimes.... being active... makessss it worse but... nnnnot always..." He knew it wasn't a 'yes or no' answer, but he felt the need to expand upon it.
"No...... I was... too sick....." Another expansion, but it was... nice, to talk. She seemed to understand what it was like to be sick all of the time - no one else he'd met was ever as sick as he was.
Friends... He nodded his head. "Yes... I would... li---ke... that..." It seemed they were nearing the end of he pathway that he could traverse, so he came to a slow stop and simply looked out at the lake...
"Itsss... very... p---etty....."

[Disclaimer: This is not real science, I have no idea what I'm talking about. This has been a PSA.]
Delilah smiled as he agreed to being her friend, it filled her with joy. Her very first friend.
Please stop.
She closed her eyes tight, 'Leave me alone!' she snapped back in her mind. The voice quieted down to a whisper, please don't... i'm sorry...
Delilah sighed as she opened her eyes again. She was conflicted, but decided to press on anyway. Standing next to Xeizii, she looked out over the lake, the wing blowing only lightly as the ripples danced along it's surface. It was so calming, so serene. The question in her mind still burning.
...you can't be his friend, if you don't ask...
She ignored the voice, she didn't want to face the reality of what would be the inevitable answer. Even now, they had become friends, wouldn't it hurt more to not be able to see each other if they were supposed to be friends. She squatted down to a sit next to Xeizii's wheelchair, still staring out over the lake. She reached into her bag and pulled out a small notebook, and began to write equations down the paper.
(p + q)² = p² + 2pq + q² = 1
Then she wrote another.
f'(A) = f(A) and f'(a) = f(a)
"..t-the sum of a-all genotype f-frequences of this c-case... is the b-bibomial e-expansion... of the s-square of the s-sum of p and q, a-and... such a s-sum, as it r-represents the t-total of all p-possibilities, must b-be equal to o-one." she rambled off, passion in her eyes for the sciences as she then closed her eyes into a full smile. Setting down the pencil she began to sign again, "It means, that it's possible to help you. To help us." she tilted her head a bit expressing a bit of enthusiastic charm as she looked back out over the lake. She wanted this moment to last for a very long time, since she knew that if it was true that he'd only become more sick around her and that she couldn't help him, they'd never be able to remain friends.
She pulled up her legs and wrapped her arms around them, her eyes narrowing as though she was concerned with thought. She tried to come up with possibilities. She had finally found someone just like her and she was scared of letting them go in fear that she'd never have another friend again. That she too, would die alone one day.

she's... distraught.... ....be careful...
Xeizii watched her as she squatted down - it took a bit of effort to move his head so that he could see what she was doing... complicated math - he didn't really understand it but she seemed to be talented with it. Some part of him wished he had some kind of talent to make up for his health- but he'd never really been able to pursue anything.
"it... is...?" He let his head roll to one side. "That's.... goood...."
She... will make you... sick.... you need... mask...
"Do... you like math....?"

Delilah sighed a bit and then moved her arms out without moving the rest of her body. "I really like math. It's easier than talking." she answered in sign language. She generally liked a lot of things, one of them including math. Delilah was doing quite well keeping her emotions in check despite her face showing she wasn't exactly okay. Maybe just a little mournful, but she kept herself blank for the most part. To let herself feel any strong emotions would put Xeizii in danger. She pondered for a moment, she had only experienced her powers increasing out of her control when she was upset, but was this the same for the opposite range of emotions. She wanted to explore that under a controlled environment, but it was very likely she would never feel those type of feelings anyways so she shook the thought from her mind quickly. What do you like?" she continued to ask him questions, just trying to get to know him better. She kept an eye on his health, hoping to catch any signs of him being affected by her before it possibly killed him.
Tell him. You're better off ending it now. Before he grows attached.

"I... like to play my... cello... when I'm able..." He coughed out his response, nodding a little. "My parentsss..... are flooo--ists... so... I like... th---at too but..... ssssometimess.... when I touch.... the pla--ants... they die..." He sighed softly, and then shifted a little to fold his arms over his chest.
"I'm.... not really able to do.... a lot--.... m--stly just... watch..." He shrugged a bit. It was somewhat lonely, but... his parents did what they could to get him involved with things.

Delilah took a deep breath and forced a smile, "I've never played an the cello, but I've played the piano and it makes me very happy to make music." She seemed concerned when he coughed but relaxed when he settled down. Her smile seemed more genuine now as she listened, "I didn't really have parents growing up, but I liked the idea of flowers. Though, I kill the plants too when I touch them." she giggled lightly. She had so much in common with this person as she almost forgot about her illness and the circumstances that brought them there. For once in her life, she genuinely felt like a normal Meta. It was really nice.
She let out a harsh cough for a moment then began to laugh heartily. She didn't even understand why she was laughing but she felt happy, and that's all that mattered.
"Watching is nice..." she still had a firm smile planted on her face as she looked to Xeizii, her face bright and warm.

"My....item iss... a cello....... that'ssss... why i play.... but i'm not very... g--ood... at it...." He managed a small smile, barely visible behind his mask. "I like... the piano....too... music is... v--ery... rela--xing..." He nodded his head a little, then stifled a small yawn that snuck up. He supposed he'd been fairly active today all things considered - his body was deciding it was time to sleep soon.
"It--..is... I'm ssssorry but.... c--ould we.... h--ead back ssssoon...? I think.... I might fffall asleep... ssssooon... that happenss... ssssometimes..." He was already having a hard time keeping his eyes open, even just one at a time.

"I will have to play for you some time, if you would want to listen." She brought herself to a stand and carefully put her mask back on as she turned to Xeizii and nodded. "It's okay. We can head back." Concern with itching in the back of her mind, What is she did this? What if she was hurting him? She smiled at him softly, keeping the charade for now.
Don't.
She walked beside him as they made their way back to the main hall. "It was so nice to meet you, Headmaster should be able to assign you housing if you were interested. I look forward to being very good friends." she signed away, just keeping conversation even if he wasn't watching. She just wanted to make him feel better as she talked to him.

"I would.... love that...." He nodded a little, then turned his chair to start rolling back towards the main building. It was a shame he was getting so tired- he would have liked to have kept talking. It had been a long time since he'd made a friend. "It was... nniice to.... meet you too....... i hope... we can sssspeak more when.... i feel a little better....?"
use the... real mask... next time.... please.

She chuckled a bit, "He's a gentleman, though he isn't without his flaws. But who is. He's very nice and accommodating, so if there's anything you need, you can tell him and he'll do his best to make it happen." Delilah glanced her eyes to the sky, maybe it was closer to the evening now though it was still light out. She thought for a moment, then she thought of something suddenly. "Are you going to stay in the housing here at the aca-.. sanctuary?" she looked quizzically at him. She hoped that he would so that she could truly spend more time with Xeihii.
You should stop.. The pain will be too much to bear.
She shook the voice from her head again as she continued to walk with him, her fingers interlacing and finding a place draped in front of her when she didn't need them for signing.

"He sssounds.... niice..." Xeizii nodded a little more, pausing to let Delilah open the door to the main building when they arrived again. His father was still filling out the paperwork, it seemed. The health conditions section was probably what had slowed him down...
"I--.... don't know.... I'll sssstay where.... it's easiest to... get around... I think...? Or where--- ever they need... me to sssstay..." He hadn't thought about it - though honestly he hadn't thought he'd get a choice in that. Since he was technically still a teen, he supposed he figured he'd be placed in the dorms. The idea of staying in a house all by himself was.... scary. What if he started having an attack?
dorms..... xeizii... it's safer...

She nodded in agreement over the headmaster. Even though she knew him a little deeper than that, it wasn't necessary to divulge any of that information.
As he explained where he might live, settling on the possibility of the dorms, she thought for a moment.
I'm begging you to stop.
She smiled at him softly as she hesitated slightly, "Would you... like to live with someone .. who might understand your condition better?" she asked, she had an obvious intent by the question. Though the dorms were safer than being in a house alone, maybe be in a house with someone who was similar to him might be more.. comforting.
Delilah, please stop.
"Do you want to live in my house?... With me?" she stared at him with her big green eyes waiting in anticipation for an answer. "You can decline, it's okay."

Would he like to live with someone that understood - yes, he would, honestly... but could he trouble her like that? Even though she was offering-- he wanted to, yes. It would be a lot easier - and he'd feel less guilty if his primary interactions were with people who understood just how hard it was to be sick all the time.
XEIZII! no!.... stop...! it's not... safe..! we'll die--
He frowned a little, that was the loudest the voice had ever gotten, even when it was upset about Whisper... He blinked slowly as he mulled it over - should he divulge it? He couldn't really... expect her to understand the voice - no one did. They thought it was a figment of his imagination at best, or a mental health problem at worst.
"I... w---ould but... I couldn't- trouble... you like that....... and... what if - we.. mmmake... each other ssssick...er...?"

She was conflicted, he seemed apprehensive but somehow willing. It was like his thoughts were disagreeing. She blinked with a bit of concern then shook her head, "It would not be any trouble at all. I've lived alone for so many years... It would be nice to have some company for once." she felt her stomach sink as she was reminded of her illness effect with his comment, yet she felt hopeful as the use of each other made it seem like he really was like her.
DELILAH
She smiled, a twinge of sadness shining through only lightly as she began to sign, "You can't make me more sick, Xeizii.... I'm already sick." she closed her eyes into her smile, eyebrows slightly upturned as though a bit nervous or about to laugh, unsure which would come first. "Right?"
