Instantly her hands came up, her staff still in one, and she waved them as she shook her head. "Oh, no no, i-its not like that.." Sy didn't really want to deal with fire at the moment and it seemed like Chandra's mother was sort of intent on trying to have her face her fears. "I was in a burning building recently... So.. I uhm.. I think I'll wait.. to.. face.. that.." Inwardly she was groaning. This didn't seem to be going all that well. If anything she was sure that Keilana was basically thinking she was a defenseless radaku pup.

Clearing her throat she looked away from the woman, scared to make eye contact with her. "Ah.. d-do you know if Chandra is home..?"

Perhaps it was her motherly instincts kicking in but upon hearing that the young girl had been recently in a fire herself things seemed to click in. Ah, the girl was still shaken from her experience and that she could understand. There were times she awoke to nightmares from the war, her heart racing, drenched in her own sweat grasping for a hammer desperately to protect herself from the ghosts of the past.

"Ah...I shall start it then." Keilana spoke quietly as she quickly went about setting some tinder and grabbing a bit of flint from her bag went to start a small fire. "I will cook some meat for you. Are the chunks too big for your kifna?" was her next question, her tone had softened somewhat and her rather stiff appearance had relaxed slightly.

"Ah..to be honest I am not sure...the boy is often out and I neither see him or his brother much beyond them checking in from time to time." Came her response sounding rather sad and lonely coming from such a strong looking woman. "Though I can be sure he is out reading somewhere in the forest of Jahaur, his father lives there so he tends to stick somewhere in the middle of there and home."

She was thankful when Keilana seemed to ease up a little on the fire making. Sy didn't want to have to flat out say that she didn't want to play with fire. She hated being so assertive. It made her feel as though she were being rude to others. Her body went stiff when the first life of the fire glowed and it took a moment for her to realize that it was contained in the fire pit. Doing her best to relax she moved her eyes to the meat and sized it up before she shook her head. "No, they are fine." Syqvara would either end up tearing it into smaller pieces or Drent would tear at it himself. It didn't matter what size they were, he liked to "kill" his food.

The sound of the woman's tone made her blink a bit. It felt a little out of place for someone so strong. But she nodded her head. When she'd first met Chandra he had been out and about. "I see.." The red head took a moment to think before she spoke again. "I sent Chandra's book to his uncle Takoda so that he wouldn't be missing it."

The girl had met the monk? Where had she been all this time? Under a rock? Keilana felt a bit irritated at the fact his son seemed to have introduced the girl to Takoda but not her...and she then felt even more lonely.

"Ah so you met the shifter?" She stated trying to not sound irritated. "He is a good magic user I suppose...you'd learn a lot from him." She managed as she went to stoke the fire so it would be hot enough to cook the food. Gesturing for the girl to take what she needed for the kifna before she went to gather her own skewers with meat on them. Using some rocks to prop them up and allow them to cook without risk of burning herself she returned her attention to Syqvara.

"You seem rather interested in finding my son. I can bring you to our home if you wish to see if he is there. I make no promises though."

She nodded her head. "I was supposed to learn healing from him, but.. ah.. " She reached up and tucked her hair behind her ear. Sy felt really bad that she had disappeared when she'd made so many promises. She cleared her throat and looked at the meat then the fire. Knowing that she'd have to get close to the flames seemed to bother her a little bit. It was a task that took her a few minutes to complete and once she had it done she backed away from the fire rather quickly.

"O-oh. That would be nice, if he's not there I can just leave the herbs for him." She patted her satchel. Sy didn't think Chandra would be all that interested in seeing her anyways. He would likely take to the herbs that she had collected and dried for him to use or scold her for having had his book for so long.

Keilana was unsure of this, she had assumed that this girl was interested in Chandra but she seemed eager to just bring the herbs and flee. Was she that timid?

"I know Chandra is a bit rough around the edges, I guess he takes after my cynical side somewhat..." Keilana began as she poked the fire a bit before turning the skewers. "But he has a good heart and he does mean well...he just isn't good at expressing himself." Keilana explained knowing her son pretty well despite not having seen him for long periods of time recently.

"I know he would be disappointed if you didn't stick around to say hello...he doesn't have that many friends." She explained as she lifted the meat from the fire carefully looking it over as the juices dripped down. It didn't seem like it was quite ready yet and thus returned it to the fire.

There was a pause and then a small giggle that came from her as Keilana mentioned that Chandra had a good heart. "Yes, he does have a good heart. I wonder if the woman he loved finally returned the affection." Syqvara mused aloud. She was sure that with the time that passed there had to be some kind of development there. The idea made her smile but on the inside she had conflicted feelings about it. Of course she wanted him to be happy but it also kinda hurt that she didn't have a chance with him. In her mind she didn't have a chance with anyone. Love just wasn't in her future it seemed.

Shaking herself from her thoughts she smiled as best as she could manage. "I can stay for a little while but after that I will have to head home." Curiously her eyes went to the food to see if the woman deemed it done, even Drent was doing so, though the little kinfa had started to get closer to Keilana with hopefulness.

This was news to her, and perhaps the widening of her eyes betrayed that surprise. Chandra had been in love? With who?? Chandra had never made any mentionings of a girl, now she was learning about this young woman who knew Chandra and apparently there had been a girl he loved? Why was she the last one to know about these things? She was his mother after all!

Her brain slowly turned trying to piece together memories of Chandra's actions over the past moons. There had been a time he was unusually happy and then he had become severely sour and prickly. Perhaps it was then...

"This is new information for me to hear, as far as I know there is no woman in his life..." Keilana's voice sounded bitter. She cast a glance at the kifna who had been inching closer to her, one could almost see drool coming from its beak in hunger. Chuckling slightly trying to move past this shock she picked up one skewer and blew on it. Removing a chunk of meat she held it out for the baby bird.

"The food..is done." Keilana mused now sounding a bit wistful, her brain was full of thoughts and she seemed rather sad about the fact her son hadn't told her anything about his life. removing a second skewer she blew on it from habit and then went to pass it to Syqvara.

The shock that she saw on Keilana's face told her that the woman didn't know about Chandra's love interest. Syqvara felt a bit mortified. Had he not wanted his mother to know? Oh, she really messed up now. There was an inward groan as she figured she was really going to be yelled at by the boy now. "Sorry."

Drent sqwaked with delight when Keilana held out a piece of meat for him. Shuffling his little feet he got closer and then took the food from her hand as gently as he could manage before half turning away from her so that he could set it on the ground and peck and pull at it. There was even a shake of his head and a fluffing of his feathers as he tried to devour the thing quickly.

Sy chuckled at her familiar then stepped forward to collect the meat from the woman. "Thank you.." Since she wasn't all that hungry she blew on her food patiently and waited for it to cool before she tried to bite into it.

There was a moment or two of awkward silence, Keilana continued to keep an eye on the small kifna as it tucked into the food she had given it. She would give it more if it managed to eat what it had and so she went to eat a small portion herself. Mulling over this new information and wondering why her son wouldn't tell her such things.

Of course there was the obvious, that he was embarrassed and didn't want his mom interfering with his love life. But it still made her feel depressed.

"You didn't know, though perhaps if you see my son you can lecture him on spending more time with his mother." Keilana stated with a small shrug. Tired she was ready to get going and go home. Standing she looked to the carcuss that had been mildly cut up and figured she would take out a small cloth in her bag and drape it across her shoulders when she went to pick it up again.

"We should probably go, it will be getting dark sooner rather than later." She mused the embers of the dying fire indicating that they still had plenty of fuel. "Do you know any ice or water spells?" She inquired not very hopeful.

The idea of her lecturing Chandra was amusing and made her giggle. While Sy had once scolded him for being mean to Awen, she'd never actually lectured him on anything. Then again she didn't think she had enough of a say in anything for her to be that way toward him. "I'll mention it to him." She said softly.

When the woman started to get things ready to leave she finished up her bit of meat then looked at Drent to see how he was doing. Thankfully he was just about done as well. Then Syqvara heard Keilana ask her if she knew anything that would help put out the fire. "Ah, no.. I only know wind and lightning." And once again she felt utterly useless. She could just imagine how someone like Chandra's mother would view her.
