"Good," Vuka said. He watched the child play with the fish and offered him the bowl. There. Now Arron would have his own little friend when he needed the company of someone other than his energetic siblings. Arron's giggle brought a huge grin to Vuka's lips. It was so wonderful to hear. He was glad that he had been the one to find the boy.
"It looks like he likes you," he said, "No, I don't need one," he assured the boy. He preferred to just come and watch them in the wild, even if menk and fenk were none the wiser when they became pets. "Do you want to gather some food for him? We can look for worms. That's better than people-food, but they do seem to like bread."

"Worms are not bugs right?" Arron asked seriously, "Me and Mama don't really like bugs, but maybe if they are only fish food sized that would be okay." He smiled at the older boy then. "Thank you so much, I'm so excited." "Where do worms like to live? Under stuff right?" Arron picked up a log and looked. "I think there are some here, but, oh crap! They are diving into their holes." He set the bowl down so he could chase worms that squished away rather easily being so slimy from his small fingers.

"No, I don't think so," Vuka said. He'd have to keep that in mind and not tell Arron when they were having maglardilla for dinner. He nodded at the question about where they lived and then watched then worms start to wiggle away. He grinned and shook his head, nearly laughing. He'd never heard that word from a youngling before! He returned to the pond, filled his hands with water, and poured it over the worms' holes twice to draw them out. "Get ready!"
He held out a handkerchief in one hand, specifically grabbed for food-hunting, and waited for the worms to come wriggling up for air.

Yet again, Vuka surprised him as the worms started popping up from the soggy ground making easier pickings. He placed worms on the piece of fabric until he was sure there were enough to feed a fish three times the size of the menk he and Vuka had caught. "That should hold him for a while don't you think? Maybe we ought to go home so his bowl is not jostled by all the walking." he wasn't sure he wanted to go yet but the fish took precedence over everything else. It was an important fish.

"Definitely," Vuka agreed. This would be one spoiled fish. "Well if you want we can just sit here a while. We can sit the bowl down and it won't jiggle at all, if you don't want to go back just yet." He folded up the fabric and tied it with scrap twine. Unfortunately for the worms it didn't matter if they lived or died from now on. He found that menk weren't especially picky. "It's up to you."
At least he had seemed to happily distract the boy, even if he had interrupted alone time. Hopefully Arron would know to take him up on his offer if he ever wanted to wander off again.

"Yes I think just sitting here in the quiet with you would be the best." He would watch his fish and just soak up all the peaceful vibes around him for a while before going back to the house. This was nice. Who would have known that Vuka would make such a great friend before they had their time together, Arron had rather come to idolize the soft spoken but brilliant shifter. He was like the older brother that Arron had never had.

"I think so too," Vuka agreed, and he meant it. Let the poor child have some peace and quiet. He had lost his family, and being hurriedly and temporarily adopted by another couldn't possibly help as much as everyone seemed to think it would. Besides, Arron was smart. He wasn't like just any child.
Vuka sat carefully, trying to not slosh the fish too much, and then pushed the bowl into the loose dirt by the edge of the lake so the menk wouldn't have to move about, and then crossed his legs and simply sat in quiet company.
