Personality: She was never meant to exist, but her mother had forgotten the turn of the month when she awoke her stone and she was born different. The unspoken shame of the family, she was given a cursed name and locked in a room far from the main rooms so no one would ever know she was there. While she was given food and water, as well as hand me downs from older siblings and toys, she was also neglected and deprived of a lot of contact. They did not see their actions as cruel, unfortunately.
Fortunately for her, the barrier blocking the Kumiho was brought down not long after she turned eight and her parents heard back from their eldest who had gone out into the world that he had seen such strange ones like the unspoken child. He gave them an opportunity to get rid of her and make her someone else's problem, their shame at last erased.
She was smuggled out and sent to her brother, who they instructed to then, in turn, leave at the academy when he wouldn't be seen with her. Hitotsu agreed to their instructions but didn't follow them. The academy knows he is her brother and legal guardian. Even his small time out in the world has shown him that his sister deserves to know what it means to truly live.
Quiet, nervous, pensive. These would be good descriptors. Since her eyes are one solid color her parents had believed her blind and kept her in darkness when the door wasn't opened to give her food and water. Though her eyes work fine but are just the same color, having not seen much of anything for the first eight years of her life, she is still learning how to process what she sees for navigation and mostly uses her excellent hearing and keeping hold of something to get around, so she is functionally blind regardless.

Personality: Aster had a twin (which is to say they were awoken at the same time) sister who he was extremely attached to. She was deaf, and together they learned how to sign.
One day when they were just entering junior year his sister suffered a fatal accident. Overcome with grief and rage at the senseless loss, Aster shaved his head. In honor of his sister, he's also been refusing to speak, using only sign to communicate. While he's been allowing his hair to grow back and he acknowledges people who speak to him, he will not speak to them in return and only uses sign, paper or a tablet he can write on in order to respond.
This is not to say this his entire personality is dictated by his love for his sister however. He actually has quite the sense of humor, and while he doesn't speak, he'll laugh aloud, make noises and occasionally play pranks on people he's friends with, especially since even those who know him well occasionally forget that he's a voluntary mute, and not actually deaf.

Personality: Easy going and soft spoken, Huon has come to Below purely out of what he believes to be a necessity. He has no intention of making friends, and at best intends for temporary acquaintances. Young enough to have chafed against his people's choice to remain hidden but with no inclination to rebel, this exchange gives him the opportunity to see beyond his home and learn skills he feels he might not otherwise get the chance to learn, but that's all he thinks he's going to get out of this experience. Once he has the skills he wants, he has every intention of returning home.
He enjoys making things, and has from a young age played and experimented with various materials to see what he could create. He knows how to make pots and vases, his large hands quite deft on the spinning wheel. However, to him, this is only a hobby and he wants to do more, be more. He wants to be of use to his community, and though they've given no indication to him that he isn't, he feels inadequate all the same. Infertile like most of his race, he wants to be able to produce something and since he can't create any children, he wants to at least make something, even if he has to associate with outsiders in order to get the skills he so badly desires to have. Perhaps then he'll be worthy in his own mind.
