"Mhm. You're a kind soul and I am honored to have your attention," she smiled, patting his arm. He'd grown so much in their time knowing each other and she felt like she was just the same old Kani. "I'm sure you've got all the Matori girls after you now. Strong, kind guy that you are." Zoryn pranced around the two of them and headbutted Gael's hand, jealous that the other Zanteer was getting more affection than he was.

"Really, Zoryn? Is that really necessary?"

Gael smiled at the other Zanteer since it seemed to be a bit jealous and started to pet it as well. Though his attention was mostly on Kani. It seemed almost like she was jealous as well. "I did meet a few nice girls. Nadiya even helped me bring in the fishing nets." While it was true he was only teasing at her.

From his point of view Kani was the only girl he wanted to see or be close to. There was just something about her. Nadiya had been nice and even good looking but she didn't compare to Kani. "You have nothing to worry about though. You are more beautiful than all of them and I like your heart better."

"I-I w-wasn't worried or anything. W-what you do with your time is none of my business," Kani stuttered, blushing at his comments. He could hang out with the Nadiya girl and do whatever if he wanted to. She fumbled with her skirt, trying to distract herself from her embarrassment by focusing on anything else but him.

"Sorry Zoryn is such a hassle. He's not very good at listening," she continued, tugging on the Zanteer as she attempted to change the subject away from the other pretty girls and his relationship with them.

"I don't mind." It wasn't like her familiar was starting a fight with his. And Bastul was actually pretty tame for the day, which was odd. When he was done giving the both of them attention he brought his gaze to Kani.

"You did great during the battle, Kani, and no one thinks less of you. If anything they admire you for standing up for others." Which was true. Gael hadn't even wanted to go. If she hadn't he never would have set foot there. "Your courage made me go. So you accomplished a great feat with that." While he would say anything to make her feel better the young matorian meant it.

"You give me far too much credit. What I did was pretty reckless and it shows. I really wasn't prepared for any of it. What's done is done though, and I've got to live with my decisions. I'm just sorry you have to deal with my doubt. You're too kind for your own good," Kani smiled, patting his hand gently. He was always there being her solid support pillar. Sometimes she wondered if she was unintentionally using him for her own gain. She didn't force him into anything of course, but Gael was a kind soul and never really questioned what she did. If there was any small chance she was making him do things he didn't want to....well, she'd have to stop that.

"You uh...like being around me right? I don't cause you any trouble?"

"Oh, you cause me plenty of trouble." Gael smiled at her fondly. "All of it welcome." The trouble she caused him was internal rather than external. He had feelings for her that he had some trouble addressing. Gael knew that Kani was special to him. She was the one woman that stood out in vibrant color to him, the proof of that was the necklace he'd given her.

He reached out and tucked a bit of her hair behind her earfin. "Don't worry so much, Kani. I enjoy spending time with you. I'd like to spend a little more with you but we both have training." He more so since he was working on his body, not just his skills. The time sucking path he'd chosen prevented him from spending precious moments with her.

"Maybe sometime soon I can come watch you train. Or maybe you can come visit Old Aza and watch me train. Maybe meet my little brother. I'm sure the two of you would get along well. Since my father is usually busy working it'd be nice," Kani nodded, hoping she wasn't overwhelming him too much. She did want him to meet her brother and father, but was unsure if that was really appropriate or not.

"Anything to spend time with you is worth it," she admitted, glancing away in embarrassment.

His earfins gave a bit of a wiggle as he grinned at her mention of spending more time with him. Gael chuckled when she looked away from him but he did like the idea of it. "That would be nice. I'd love to meet your brother. After all those shells I collected for him I think I deserve that." Oh yes, he remembered the hunts for shells that he'd gone on. Not that he was complaining. It was an oddly relaxing pass time and it had given him a chance to get to know Kani a bit.

"I have to make a trip into Oba for my Aunt next week but I am yours after that." He figured he should let her know that he would be gone in the coming week so she didn't go looking for him and think he flaked out. "She lost her daughter recently... my cousin.. and she was hoping to find some things to bury with her."

"Oh I'm so sorry. If your aunt needs anything at all I am willing to offer my assistance," Kani replied, hugging him. While she had agreed to fight alongside the Oban during the war against the Alkidike, she still had a hard time accepting them after what they had done to their people. She knew what it was like to lose a loved one, and she hated that one of his own family had to go through something like that.

"Promise me you'll be safe? I don't want anything bad happening to you."

He accepted her hug and even returned it. Gael hadn't really told anyone outside the family of his loss. "Thanks. It was hard.." His throat became thick with emotion as he tried to speak of it more but he stopped. Not wanting to become a ball of depression near Kani he shook his head. "Ah, she might like some help with her salves. She's thrown herself into her work since then."

Normally he collected herbs for her but since he had started his training he hadn't been doing so as often. "When I get back I can properly introduce you to my family as well." Of course he'd have to let her meet his aunt if she wanted to help out.

"I can't say it gets better, but you're strong. I'll be here to support you whenever you need it too. If that's any help at all. I'll keep trying to get stronger while you're away too. Anything that'll help," she promised, tapping him gently on the cheek.

"You don't get to keep getting stronger without me. It's my turn to catch up to you." She really was incredibly concerned about him going to Oba, but she couldn't just tell him not to go either. He was doing it for his aunt. She hoped her concern was for nothing, but a Matorian traveling into Oba was still dangerous.

He clucked his tongue at her. "Nah, a man likes to be strong for his girlfriend." Gael watched Kani's face for a reaction to his words. How would she take him calling her that without asking first? Sitting there he could feel his face growing warm and it was likely a blush could be seen forming in his cheeks.

Looking away from her he cleared his throat. "I mean.. if.. if you wanted to be with me, that is.." Now he really was embarrassed. Closing his eyes he inwardly scolded himself.

While his response had been a bit unexpected, it wasn't necessarily a bad thing. She didn't feel embarrassed by what he said, or even really weird about it. It felt right more than anything else to her. They'd been seeing each other for a while now anyway in their weird sort of manner. She enjoyed his company and was always overjoyed to see him. Being his girlfriend was just a bit more than what they had already been doing. No big deal.

"Of course I do, you silly man. You think I just hang out with other Matori men like this?" She tried to joke, hoping it would lighten his mood a bit.

The thought of her hanging out with other Matori men, or any men, the way she did with him had him looking at her with a semi-panicked look. "W-well.. I had hoped not." Gael reached up and rubbed at the back of his neck before laughing nervously. "I.. I was hoping that when I got back we could.. talk about the future."

Hearing the words he said made him realize just how stupid he sounded. "I mean I would love to marry you and start a family. I have been saving up so I can buy you anything you want." Gael wanted his mouth to stop working so bad, he was just saying anything now.

Well that had definitely been unexpected. Marry her? Her of all people? While she wasn't opposed to the idea of marriage, she still felt a bit like a child herself. She didn't really understand why he would want to put up with her to that extreme. Then again, they had been trying to be each other's support for a good while now. Even with the separation issues they had still found their way back to each other. She could see herself with him, in time.

"Marriage may be a bit far off for the two of us still," she started, wrapping her arms around him and staring him in the eyes so he would hopefully understand how serious she was being. "But eventually, whenever the time is right and you do ask me, I will say yes. You can hold me to that."
