"I did okay with rocks and sticks and s**t, I dunno why I couldn't get a blunt object," Micah grumbled, then winced as Nova hissed, a long, low, threatening note. "Sorry," he said hastily, "sorry, I don't really want a different weapon, sorry." "Creation vines, Horace said, but I don't know what the hell that means," he complained. "I don't know anything around here, it pisses me off some. I guess we could ask on twitter if anyone else is here that we mighta known," and he looked at October to see if the other man thought that was a good idea.

"I just miss my umbrella," said October woefully. "I mean...I suppose a sword is a little sharper than an umbrella, but there's something to be said about being able to whack someone upside the head with an umbrella instead of something pointy."
Tuesday just laughed in his head, and October found the sound still a bit odd, not used to having another voice in his thoughts.
"Who's Horace?" he asked curiously, and then frowned again. "I don't know anything either," he said, idly tugging at his coat. "I think people assume that we just sort of...have to do our own thing, and that's kind of obnoxious, but, well..."
October made a halfhearted gesture with his hand, attempting to indicate that it was what it was, then swept some hair out of his eyes.
"I'm not very good at Twitter, but it does seem to be a place where people gather. Maybe we could get some information or something."

"I guess you could whack people with the flat part?" Micah suggested doubtfully. October just liked umbrellas, he figured. Everyone had a quirk like that, maybe. "The guy who woke me up," he explained. "... My friend, I guess." Horace bugged him relentlessly and liked to make him yell, but he also kind of enjoyed the guy's company. That counted as being a friend, he figured. "Yeah, I guess it's a decent place to ask." He fiddled with his bag of chips, opened it. "Seems like some people try to be helpful there at least."

October considered this idea probably more seriously than was actually intended by the suggestion. Maybe he could get himself another umbrella or something and just go around poking people.
(Tuesday snorted inside of his head, clearly amused at this prospect.)
"Ah," said October with a nod. "I've only met, er...Molly, her name is, and of course Brie. I've popped on Twitter once or twice to talk, but other than that, I'm not very familiar with anyone else yet."
He shifted slightly. "Have you made very good friends yet? Or met any of the, er, leads?"

"I know people, but I don't, y'know. Know people. Yet." Micah shuffled his feet and ate a couple of chips. "I heard my division leader isn't here right now. So I haven't met her yet. Mostly I've been just doing duties and s**t and trying to practice." It wasn't reporting in, and October wasn't his boss any more, but it still felt a little bit like it. "How about you?" he added, a little awkwardly, feeling like he ought to make an effort.

"Ah," said October, with a nod of understanding. "What division is that? I've been put in Mist, and I haven't met any of my leads, either, though I keep meaning to. I haven't really done a lot of anything."
Which was kind of his motto in life. The less effort, the better.
"I've, erm." October shuffled his feet. "Just been trying to get used to it. You know." He gave a wry smile, unseen. "It's a bit of a difference going from running an apartment building to doing nothing. Not that I mind," he added. "Just...different."

"Moon. I still get to do building and repairs and s**t, so I'm all good," Micah explained. He preferred to keep busy, had found himself tasks to do around the apartments when he didn't have anything to be assigned to. "It's real different," he agreed. "It's kinda weird, sometimes. After everything."

"Ah," said October, who hadn't the faintest idea of what the other divisions actually were. "I'm in Mist, which apparently means that we do a little bit of everything, or so I'm told."
He seemed to wilt at the very prospect of having to do actual work, eyes flickering towards Micah.
"Do you...miss where we were?" he asked quietly. "The apartments, I mean? Or rather...just that place in the world."

"I haven't really seen any of the leads. Just higher ranked hunters." Micah ate another chip, frowning a little. "Is that normal? I hate not knowing what's normal here," he complained. He thought about the question. Finally, he said, "Sort of. It was ... something I got kinda good at. Doing the stuff we did. I knew what I could do and it was like. Our place and we defended it." He shrugged a little, uncomfortably. "I like having showers and not having to worry about zombies breaking in, but I miss it a little, too." He didn't say anything about the way Delta City had been before the outbreak, about the city the way it had been and his old job. Normalcy seemed like a distant, half-forgotten dream that he'd long since woken up from. Zombies had become normal, and now it was this island and the weirdness of having somebody else in his head, and even so he knew that all this would be normal too, given time.

"I don't think anything's really normal anymore," said October woefully. "Though admittedly not knowing the leaders is immensely frustrating. I like knowing who's in charge of what."
He listened silently as Micah spoke, Tuesday, for once, quiet as well as October toyed with the hem of his sleeve. He couldn't say that he didn't understand; it was a strange and unusual situation they'd been in, back at the Apartments, but at the same time, to him, it had been normal. October had been used to waking up and having to defend against zombies.
"Well," he said, "It is nice to actually be clean. And not have to share a lot of things that we did before."
What little was visible of October's face relaxed. "I'm glad, though, that you're, er...not unhappy here. That's good to know."

"Maybe they got s**t to do somewhere," Micah suggested, a little uncertainly. The idea had occurred to him, at some point, that maybe Delta wasn't the only city that had gotten hit by the infection. It was a disturbing idea, and he didn't like it, but if some of the hunter leads were gone because they needed to deal with stuff, Micah could understand that. "I'm getting used to it," he admitted, and looked at October, trying to figure out what the man's expression was, behind that bandanna. "You getting used to it?"
