And so it went, for the next few turns, Shard trying to catch the chimera or just land a hit and Mytrax dodging him quite easily. He was honestly surprised to learn that someone so tall and with wings could move so easily and smoothly. Yeah, she was clearly used to sparring, and against shorter opponents Shard assumed. He may have been brash in challenging her, but he wasn't stupid.
He could tell she wasn't putting in much effort and, well, that sort of attitude really got under his skin. The next time she moved out of his way, he lunged and managed to grab hold of her tail. "Ha! One point for me!"

Mytrax moved to turn when she felt a hard yank on her tail. Glancing over her shoulder showed her the triumphant grin on the baphomet's face for having successfully captured her tail. She nodded in acknowledgement, "One point for you, yes."
One wing fanned open sharply to strike him in the face. "And that's one point for me." She heard the crunch of cartilage against the bony structure of her wing, felt something damp on the stretch of membrane and quickly retracted both tail and wing from the baphomet. She shifted back into a stance, waiting for his counter but was surprised to see blood dripping down his face.
Oh the Nine, she broke his nose.

Shard had to let go of the tail when the wing smacked into his face. He glared at Mytrax, "I thought you said you wouldn't use your wings during the spar!" he demanded, although with a broken nose, he sounded a lot less intimidating and was instead silly. Angrily, one leg began to paw at the gymnasium floor while he tried to wipe at the blood with his sleeve.
He didn't have problems with bleeding or with getting blood out of his clothes, it was all part of roughhousing after all, but it was the principle of the thing! His opponent said she wouldn't use her wings during the spar but she did!

"I said wouldn't use them to fly," Mytrax clarified, her tone calm and neutral despite the growing panic in her belly. "We can stop here if, if you want? A-are you alright?" the chimera asked, dropping her guard to approach the baphomet. "Should we bring you to the infirmary?"
Meanwhile, Amihan continued to watch the two and wondered why Shard just stopped all of a sudden. She actually found the constant near-misses between the pair amusing.
Mytrax leaned forward and reached out to try and see how badly broken Shard's nose was when a dense skull suddenly rammed into her mouth. Her lip split and blood spilt.

"Aw, ain't no way we're gonna stop. Not when there's two points for me," Shard grinned despite the blood on his face. What he'd been aiming for was a quid pro quo sort of thing, she broke his nose, it was only fair that he broke hers. Except he missed, the difference in their height was quite large. And definitely large enough to affect which part of her body he could hit.
She was just lucky it was his forehead that struck her mouth rather than his horns. She might have lost a tooth if that had been the case. With a skull accustomed to making an impact, Shard had no difficulty shaking it off before trying to tackle the chimera.

Mytrax did not curse, not out loud anyway, but there was a tinge of black rage in those red eyes as she quickly went into a defensive posture. The baphomet was trying to tackle her? She grounded herself, planting her feet solidly while Shard caught her by her hips. But she raised an arm and brought the elbow-point down between Shard's shoulder blades. Hard.
While the first injury didn't occur to Amihan, the baphomet drawing blood from Mytrax was clearly visible to her from the angle where she was watching. With a squeak, the flight teacher rushed forward to try to position herself between the now-fighting students.

Shard's usual method of ground and pound didn't seem to work with this opponent. It figured since she did have more leverage over him given her height. But that never stopped him from trying! Not even when he felt the sharp point of her elbow drive into his back did he stop to think, maybe he should try a different angle.
He never got the chance to reach this conclusion when he heard the squeaky flailing of the red-head and felt hands prying him and Mytrax apart. "Awww, but Miss teach, the spar was just getting good!" he whined. "Ain't that right, 'Trax?"

The taste of blood on her tongue, the feel of another body attempting to subdue her, that damn cheap shot, Mytrax had to remind herself that this was still a spar and not a fight. Even if the body blows that her opponent managed to land on her sides were making the green chimera want to cut loose and just grind her knuckles against the baphomet's cheeks until the flesh tore and were raw-
Amihan was suddenly there, wings obstructing her view and reminding her that she was just in a "friendly spar" despite wanting it to be the contrary. She caught the tail-end of Shard's words but only stared at him.

"Okay this has gone far enough, three strikes or no, you're both bleeding!" Amihan squeaked, "This ends right now!"
The teacher was looking rather teary-eyed as she placed herself stubbornly between Shard and his opponent. The sight of waterworks made it very clear to the baphomet that he'd now crossed a line and awkwardly sighed, "It's not that bad, Miss teach, I've had worse injuries before and that was just from face-planting really hard on-"
"Doesn't matter!" Amihan said, voice rising an octave, "Academy rules clearly state no Fighting. Between. Students. This stopped being a spar when I say so and I toooootally say so!" the red-haired chimera began fanning herself with a hand, "Oh my, I think I'm hyperventilating..."

Hearing Amihan's shaky voice had Mytrax grounding herself and calming down. She wiped at the cut in her lip, hissing between her teeth at the sting on contact, and tried to ignore the throbbing. "Miss Amihan, do you need us to accompany you to the infirmary?" she asked in concern. The green chimera's own injury would be easily treated, provided no infection occurred but she had a salve back in her dorm room to handle that. The baphomet's nose might need a bit of straightening out though, and a plaster or something depending on how bad she'd broken it.
Amihan tried to regulate her breathing, realizing how poorly she must appear to the students. Oh, what if this got out? Would her position be in jeopardy? She did manage to stop the spar from getting worse, right? And they seemed to be dealing better than she certainly was.

In the end, Shard and Mytrax allowed Amihan to "accompany" them to the infirmary, and the baphomet had to sit through being studied and having his nose realigned properly. It hurt but he'd been through worse and gave his sparring partner a cheerful thumbs up.
Meanwhile the flight teacher was given breathing instructions to calm down, although she still looked like she was going to burst into tears at any moment. Shard decided that the next time he challenged Mytrax to another spar, they should get an "adjudicator" who wasn't so squeamish to the idea of blood or students hurting each other.
While Mytrax was being looked over, Shard waited nearby.

"I'm fine," Mytrax insisted to the nurse. While she waited for the nurse to grant her leave, she realized that Shard was waiting for her. She shifted in her seat and tried not to frown at the baphomet, "Really, I'm fine. There's no need for you to wait. They've already dealt with your injury."
She tilted her head and narrowed her eyes at him, wondering why he was still there. Did he want an apology from her? She realized she had failed to tell him she hadn't meant to break his nose in the spar but it was a spar. She wasn't expecting him to apologize for his cheap shot (because it was a cheap shot).

Shard just stayed there, grShard just stayed there, grinning from ear to ear, content to wait until the nurse gave Mytrax the green light to leave. He didn't seem the least bit bothered by the suspicion in the chimera's eyes. "Hey, what's a couple of minutes waiting to friends?" He dragged a stool to sit beside (or as close to beside) Mytrax.
"Too bad the spar got stopped so early. I woulda liked to see how much punishment we could take. Didn't know a chimera's wing could hit that hard." He said conversationally as if they'd been friends for as long as he could remember.inning from ear to ear,

Mytrax wasn't sure what was going on, or why Shard was being so... friendly for someone who just drew blood from each other. She could have understood had she just sparred against a fellow chimera but not from a ground dweller. And not from one of the races that as far as she knew historically held a grudge against her own race.
"Um," she began, "I suppose Miss Amihan was not the bet choice in adjudicators." A beat. "Wait, friends?" she blinked, visibly startled by the word baphomet's word choice. "But we've never really been in a situation where we could establish that sort of-"

With no sense of personal space, Shard stood and slung an arm across the chimera's shoulders before Mytrax could finish her sentence. "Whoa, you gotta relax, 'Trax," he laughed. "You manage to land a good clean hit on me and didn't freak out or flip out when I got back atcha." He felt the tension spread across the tall chimera's frame but didn't let it dissuade him, or make him pull away, "In my book, that makes us friends and if you ever wanted to spar again, maybe go all out next time, I'm your baphomet." he said and winked.
