She was weak, her muscles trembling all over. Her vision was going dark, blackness fading in from the edges. She was relieved to reach the cave and immediately collapsed against the wall, panting. She was momentarily too nauseous to speak and stood trying with all her might not to throw up in front of the stranger. She slid down to the cool floor, feeling suddenly hot and pressed her face to the stone. She still had a few lacerations and burns, but she was aware her more serious injuries were from both smoke inhalation and from pure exhaustion. She had been moving away from the fire for days, without food or water or rest. She wondered why she wasn't dead. "I need water," she rasped finally, her throat raw. He frowned deeply as he hurried to get her some water and the basics for what he would need to heal her with. Hopefully the water would help ease her throat so that he might get her to tell him what happened to cause her injuries and to determine if there was anything wrong with her internally. Raghnall pushed the water to her. Without waiting for her to react he started putting healing salves on some of her burns and healing the scratches with his horn. It astounded him that she could have sustained these injuries and walk at all. "As soon as you're able, please tell me what happened." He implored her.((Word Count:113 / 186 total for January))

She accepted the water gratefully, feeling the coolness of it travel down her parched throat to her stomach. She watched the stallion gathering salves with detached disinterest, feeling suddenly very tired. He was demanding a story, but she didn't have the heart to tell it. "thank you," she rasped instead, laying her head on the ground and acepting his ministrations stoically. She was beginning to feel the true extent of her injuries, along with the pins and needles associated with thawing out. It truly was cold out and she marveled once more on the fact that she was alive. "Am I going to die?" She didn't know which answer she wanted. "I feel like I'm dying." She was bruised and broken, having fled frantically through falling branches and trees, burned in a dozen places and the was sure her lungs were black, but she was only feeling it all now that she was safe, she knew. She had no idea how bad it truly was but she suspected she would likely live despite it all. ((Word count: 175 / 304 Total for January ))

Her question of dying really rocked the stallion to his core. At first not only could he not reply, but he also paused in his work. He opened his mouth a couple of times while a response tired to formulate. Unable to give her a definite no, he sighed heavily while restarting his healing. "Truthfully... I do not know... The injuries you have... The ones I can see right now... They are great......" He trailed off with another sigh. His horn touched a few more scratches before he moved to start healing a larger gash. Raghnall wiped the burn salve from his hoof before making to clean the gash. The alicorn grabbed a soaked cloth from a bucket nearby. He gentle placed the cloth over the wound and hoped it did not sting too badly. "I will do everything I can to heal you... I promise." He meant it too.((Word Count:150 / 150 total for February))

His pause and silence at her question was very telling. He was afraid for her, she could see it in his eyes. What a strange idea. Why would this stranger care what happened to her? It stuck her suddenly that he didn't know. He had no idea the fire was her fault... all of the pain... the death... it was all her doing. Her mind began to reel, spinning images of the fire and the horrors she saw as she fled through her mind. She saw her mother float before her eyes and she closed them tight, not even feeling the tears falling down her face. She turned her head away from the stranger as he worked, wincing and cringing at the pain, but it was nothing compared to what was happening in her broken heart. The heat of the ember around her neck intensified, feeling as though it were tightening. She felt suffocated and began gasping for air through her tears.

Raghnall tried to be as gentle as he could, especially once he noticed her tears. Unfortunately he had to speed up the healing process ir she really would not make it. He finished healing one large gash before moving to another. After some time he had healed and bandaged up her one side. Not sure if shehad passed out from the pain and exhaustion yet, the male carefully prodded her while speaking softly. "I know there is still much pain for you, but I need to roll you over now..." He paused momentarily for a response before slowly shifting her to have better access to her other wounds. It would take him through the morning and probably the next just to heal the external wounds.((Word Count:125 / 275 total for February))

She calmed down, silent tears dripping down her face but lacking any sobs. She moved mechanically, doing as the stallion asked and ignoring the pain. She had lost everything. How was she supposed to move on from this? As if in answer the ember around her neck swung back into her chest as she shifted, burning hotly. She sighed and looked up at the stallion again. "I'm thirsty," she rasped, unable to reach the water. "And sleepy." Her eyelids were drooping and she began to feel a different sort of numbness. "Can I sleep soon?" Her tears had stopped an her body wanted nothing more than for her to succumb to exhaustion. "My name.... is Ember..."
