A learning experience, hm?
He could get behind that line of thinking, he supposed. Now that he knew everything he did -- about how folks didn’t take kindly to teenagers poking them for knowledge they hadn’t done anything to deserve, about how the jungles were full of people waiting to separate you from your money, and about how sheer luck alone could never carry you through the rough spots… maybe he could yet shape up and make something out of himself. Give it another shot, in a way. He wasn’t old or anything. He was just young enough to feel the burn of humiliation.
“A humbling experience, too.” He finally nodded. He’d think more on it another time. Right now he was happy enough to accept Phaedra’s gentle words, and turn his attention back towards her. She was… interesting, after all. He wished he could be as comfortable as she seemed to be, out in the jungle on her own!
“What about you? I guess you don’t mind travelling alone. You seem to know all the tricks about it.”

"I bet, but at least now you know what not to do while you travel on your own." Phae chuckled a little. Everyone had to start somewhere. "At least you brought a familiar with you. That was smart." Didn't hurt that the beast was large and warm either. Animals also had a tendency to be alerted to any danger long before their earthling counterparts. When he said that she seemed be alright with travelling alone she gave a sad look and a soft nod. Phaedra could do it on her own but it hadn't been her first choice. "I learned how to go out on errands for my father at a young age and since I've learned how to better handle my weapon.. well, it's not so bad." Her lips pulled back into a smile but it didn't reach her eyes.

Juno nodded, but to be honest, he wasn’t sure if he knew what ‘not’ to do. He wasn’t sure where he had gone so wrong. He didn’t think that Phaedra was lying, not at all -- but it seemed that this was another thing he ought to think about when he had time on his own. He definitely wanted to get some closure before he caught back up with his father… that, at least, would make him look less of a failure, if he could explain what he learned and what it was he was going to do from now on to get better.
But what was he going to do?
“Aw, Tamim is great. D’you know, that when the bandits came after me, they tried to take him too? See, he was loaded up with all the things I’d managed to trade for -- and it was not an inconsiderable amount of stuff, to be honest. So when the bandits got in our way, they tried to lead him off with all of it. But Tamim wouldn’t budge. Not an inch! And the bandits had to take everything off his back and carry it all themselves. And that’s why I still have him. I’d trust him with my life, if it came to it.” He reached out to ruffle the mop of hair at the top of the quhar’s head, giggling when the beast let out a lazy snort.
He turned back to Phaedra and eyed the weapon she was talking about, nodding at her words. “And now? What’cha planning to do next?”

Stereochrome Sorry I am a horrible rp partner. D: My replies are short and such. >< She smiled at the beast as Juno spoke about it and showed affection. Phaedra wondered if perhaps she should get herself a familiar to travel with. Maybe then she wouldn't be so lonely? It was certainly a thought. Pulled from the inner workings of her mind by her companions question she blinked at him as her brows lifted inquisitively. "Hmn? Oh. Well.." The brunette took a moment to think as her green eyes spaced out. "I think I'll head into Tale and see if I can find out about my mother." It was something she had been meaning to do for some time. Phae's father shared very little about her.

Heras Box no worries! we didn't really have a plot or anything for this so it was bound to be a little drifty. x3 i found it pretty helpful for Juno's character anyway. you can go ahead and mark it fin whenever you get the chance! thanks. <3 Juno nodded, imagining Phaedra’s route in his head. A trip with him to the border, then a change of direction towards Tale… having passed through that land now, it seemed easier to imagine things that way, whereas before everything outside of Sauti had seemed like a blur. He’d known the names of places -- Tale, Jauhar, Oba… but he hadn’t been entirely sure how they sat on the land, or how to get there. He wondered if this was a bit what it was like for his father, who knew the trade-routes like the back of his hand.
“I hope you find her.” Juno nodded, settling comfortably against Tamim again and looking up at the tree-canopy above him. “That’s funny, anyway. You’re looking for your mother, and I’m looking for my sister…”
They talked about this for a while, these hopes of being reunited with family they barely knew… then Juno began to nod off, and curled up on the ground between his quhar and the fire. Before he knew it, he was fast asleep, his belly full and his fear of the jungle kept at bay by the flames and the woman with her weapon.
